Taking A Doctor Hostage

After a minute or two of crawling through the vent we come to a stop. My knees are hurting and i'm pretty sure they will bruise, but that's not so important compared to the fact that we're trying to escape WKCD. 

Thomas opens up the door to the vent and steps into an empty corridor, looking out for anyone that could show up. 

"Come on, come on, come on" he says as we all rush to get out of the vent. 

Once we're all out, Thomas gestures for us to follow him. "Ok, let's go!".

"You guys go ahead. There's something i gotta do" Aris says, causing us to all look at him puzzled. Where is he planning on going?

"What are you talking about?" Thomas asks impatiently.

"Trust me it's important. You guys wanna get outta here, right? Just go" Aris replies, stepping back into the vent.

"I'll go with him" Winston says, starting to follow Aris.

"Be careful" i warn them both. The last thing we need is for them to get caught. Atleast Winston has gone to provide Aris with some back up. 

"Ok, Winston go. Go. Come on" Thomas says frantically as Winston shuts the vent door. The rest of us follow Thomas. I take one last glance at where Aris and Winston went. 

Maybe i should've gone with them. Maybe they needed extra help. 

"You sure we can trust this kid?" Minho asks Thomas.

"You don't want to know where we'd be without him" Thomas replies as we turn a corner. 

We all come to a halt at the sight of a female doctor standing in front of us. 

Well, shit.

"What are you kids doing out?" she asks in suspicion.

We all just stare at her, our eyes wide. I start to panic at the sound of a siren starting to go off, and seeing red lights begin to flash.

We all glance at each other, and then look back at the doctor. Thomas grabs her, making her our hostage. I stare at her for a moment longer. I can't help but feel like i recognise her. 

After a second, realisation hits me.

"Thomas. That's Teresa's doctor" i say, grabbing Thomas' attention. 

"Take us to Teresa" he orders her, which causes her to move down the corridor in caution. Thomas keeps hold of her so she can't escape. 

I honestly expected her to put up more of a fight. 

We run down different corridors. I watch as Frypan stops abruptly, staring down another corridor in alarm.

"Freeze!" i hear someone shout. The guard shoots at us, and we hide behind a corner.

"Why are they shooting at us?" Fry asks as we run back down the corridor we just came from.

"Oh, well i don't know, maybe it's because we've escaped from our room and have taken a fucking doctor hostage!" i reply, sprinting away from the guard chasing us down.

"Now is not the time for your bloody sarcasm!" Newt shouts to me. 

"We're being shot at, Newt. Just be glad i'm not crying!" I reply, letting out a scream when i barely dodge whatever is being shot at me.

We come to a stop when we notice Minho standing still, watching the end of the corridor. 

"Minho. What the hell are you doing?!" Thomas asks.

Minho starts running towards where the guard coming from.

"Minho!" Thomas shouts.

We're all in shock when the guard turns the corner, and Minho jumps and kicks him into the wall behind him, effectively knocking him out.

"Shit. Minho" Newt says, looking at Minho proudly.

"Damn" Fry says, looking at the unconscious guard.

"Newt just swore. Did anyone hear that? The mother of the glade just cussed" I say looking at Newt with a cheeky smile.

"I'm disappointed Newt" Minho says with a smirk. 

"Well done Minho. Them runner legs have served us well" i say, fist pumping Minho, who chuckles in reply.

I glance at the doctor, who hasn't bothered to run, but is staring at the guard in shock.

Thomas grabs the guards gun from the floor and grabs the doctor once more. "Ok, let's go".

We let the doctor open the door to the medical wing, where she said Teresa was. Then we barge in, alarming the other doctors. They put their hands up at the sight of Thomas pointing a gun at them.

"Where is she? Where is she?!" Thomas asks. He gets no answers from the doctors, but notices the closed curtain and walks further into the room. He hands Minho the gun, who keeps it raised at the doctors.

"Get down!" Minho orders, and the doctors are quick to comply.

Thomas opens the curtain to find Teresa lying unconscious in the medical bed. 

"Ok. Give me your hands!" Newt orders, and begins to tie the doctors up. I stand with Fry and watch the door, knowing that guards will find us soon.

"Just do what he says" Fry says to the doctors, glancing back to the door.

"You're never gonna get away with this" the doctor we took hostage says, but we ignore her.

I look out the window on the door and pale at the sight of guards running towards us.

"Fry look" i say, urgency in my voice.

"Guys, they're coming. Where do we go?" Fry asks the others, panicking as the guards get closer and closer towards us.

"Fry. Maddie move!" Newt orders and we're quick to listen. Newt pushes over a table, using it to block the door.

The guards try to open the door, but it only opens by an inch. 

"Get back. Get back!" Minho says, pulling us all behind him and raising the gun towards the door.

"Okay. We gotta get outta here" he says, as we all back up further into the room.

"Everyone stand back!" Thomas shouts, grabbing a metal stool and attempting to break the glass window with it. 

Key word. Attempting.

"Give me the fucking thing!" i exclaim, grabbing the stool off of Thomas and using the adrenaline coursing through my veins to launch it through the window, successfully shattering the glass.

"Damn, Maddie!" Fry shouts, impressed.

"I'm strong when i'm desperate" i reply, as Minho jumps through the broken window. 

He helps Teresa, who seems to still be weak from whatever they had given her whilst unconscious. 

"Come on, move!" Thomas says to the rest of us. 

Newt jumps through next, holding his arms out for me in case i need help. Fry is also standing behind me with his hands out, ready to help me over. 

The adrenaline i feel is really helping me out, because i successfully make it over without any help. Frypan is quick to follow me, and now we wait for Minho to jump over. 

Minho throws Thomas the gun ,so he can jump through the window. Thomas runs to another door. "Stay behind me" he says as he opens it. 

He stops us at the sight of a guard standing right in front of him. In a flash, Thomas uses the gun to blast the guy across the floor. The guy looks to be being electrocuted. At least we know what that thing does now.

 "Shit. Ok, come on" Thomas says. We all start running down another corridor. We keep running, turning a corner and seeing a door at the end of the new corridor.

"There it is. There it is!" Thomas says, causing us to speed up at the sight of our way out of this place. 

We get to the door, and Thomas frantically swipes the key card a few times. Even more panic sets in at the door not opening. 

What kind of guard has a key card that can be used for basically any door but the exit?!

"Shit come on. No, no, no!" Thomas says in frustration, still swiping the key card that isn't working.

"Thomas!" a voice a recognise to be Janson calls out, causing us to turn our heads towards the corridor, to see Janson and a bunch of armed guards slowly walking towards us.

Thomas cocks the gun in his hand and raises it to Janson as he takes a few steps towards him.

"Open this door Janson!" he orders.

"You really don't want me to" Janson replies with his hands raised as he walks towards us.

"Open the damn door!" Thomas shouts. Minho attempts to open the door with the key card, but it fails again.

"I'm trying to save your life. The maze is one thing, but you kids wouldn't last one day out in the scorch. If the elements won't kill you, the cranks will" he explains. 

What in the name of all that's holy, is a crank?

"Thomas. You have to believe me. I only want what's best for you" he finishes, coming to a halt halfway down the corridor.

"Yeah, let me guess WCKD is good?" Thomas asks rhetorically.

Janson just sends a sinister smile our way. "You're not getting through that door, Thomas". 

We all look at the door hearing it open, and i smile at the sight of Aris and Winston on the other side. 

"Hey, guys" Aris says with a smile.

"Come on!" Fry says as we all rush through the door. 

"I like you already, Aris" i say to him, holding my hand out for a high five, which he accepts with a smile. 

We all turn to look at Thomas, who starts shooting at the guards as he backs towards us. The gun fails on him, so he ditches it and starts sprinting away from the guards and Janson, who are chasing him down. 

We all shout for Thomas to run and get to us as the door begins to close. For a moment, i worry he won't make it, but he proves me wrong when he slides across the floor and makes it through the door. 

The door shuts on Janson and the guards, making me sigh in relief. Aris breaks the panel connected to the door, so it can't be opened again.

"Thomas, what's going on?!" Teresa shouts, confused and panicked. The poor girl has only just woken up to find us escaping guards, and a place we thought was safe. We need to fill her in later.

I glance at Winston, who grabs a gun from the bags placed near the door. I look back at the door and see Janson pissed as he looks at Thomas through the window, and says "You little shit".

Thomas puts up his middle finger, causing me to laugh and do the same. Mihno grabs a backpack, and then we all start running to the exit. 

"Come on. Keep moving!" Thomas shouts at us as we run, the alarm blaring in the background. 

"Come on. Come on!" Minho says, as we reach the door we came through a few days ago. 

Thomas pulls down a red lever, and the door opens up a second later. 

"Come on!" Thomas shouts, and we run through. The wind causes the sand to fly in our faces, making it hard to see as we sprint further away from the building.

We try to climb a huge, steep sand hill as we constantly look behind us to see men in vehicles driving towards us. 

"Come on. Go, go. We'll lose them in the storm!" Thomas says, as we all climb until we reach the top of the hill. 

I don't even get a second to catch my breath as we continue sprinting further into the storm. 

"Teresa, hang on. Stay together!" Thomas shouts to Teresa, who is sprinting ahead of us. 

I would applaud her for being able to maintain such a speed if i wasn't on the verge of collapsing.

"I think we lost them" Minho shouts out. 

"Keep going guys let's go" Thomas says. 

"Watch out! Where are we even going?" Minho asks as we try to catch up to Teresa. I can't even reply to him, having hardly any breathe in my lungs from all of this running. 

God, i will forever be grateful that i didn't have to be a runner and do this everyday, but at the same time, i wish i was a runner in the maze so i could be used to running this much. Never mind, i would've never have been a runner. Ever. 

"Over here" Minho says as we slow down when we get to Teresa. We look at a broken window, and it looks like this is an old building that's been buried in the sand. 

"Come on!" she says, stepping through the window. I immediately follow her, not wanting her to go in alone.

"Teresa, wait. Maddie, no. Don't go in there!" Thomas shouts to us, but we're already inside.

"Get down here!" Teresa shouts back. 

"Hurry up!" I add, still trying to catch my breathe and not pass out from running.

The boys rush in after us, sliding down the sand slope that Teresa and i just made it down. Minho takes a flashlight out of the backpack he stole, using it to look at our surroundings. 

"Where the hell are we?" He asks, turning to Thomas.

"We gotta go" Thomas says to us, taking a few steps forward with Minho. 

"No" Teresa says, but falls on deaf ears.

"We gotta keep moving" Thomas says to us.

"Thomas stop!" Teresa shouts, causing him to halt as we all turn to her.

"Tell me what's going on" She demands. I mentally thank her for giving me some time to rest and swiftly sit on the sand covered ground. The muscles in my legs are burning and i will sit the whole time whilst Thomas updates Teresa on what's going on.

I will hopefully post another chapter tomorrow. I've got a couple of days off of work and i'm using them to update as much as possible.
