A FEW YEARS ago, Hailey stood at her locker, her phone in her hand as she scrolled through it. Then, she got a text.

Hailey clicked the button that shut her phone off, then grabbing the stuff that she need out of her locker.
"Hails, are you coming to math with me?" Dakota said as Hailey started walking.
"Yeah, Walker just wanted me to meet him infront of the gym, I'll be right there." Hailey said, waving at him.
"Okay, see ya'." Dakota said and waved back. Hailey smiled at her brother and turned back around, heading towards the gym.
She saw Walker standing there, him playing on his phone. He was wearing his normal outfit, a grey hoodie and some jeans with vans, staring down while his blond hair covered his ears.
"Hey." Walker said as he heard Haileys steps.
"What's up, Walkie talkie?" Hailey asked as she continued walking towards him.
"Uh, I gotta tell you something." Walker said, looking down at his shoes now that he put his phone in his pocket.
"Which is?" Hailey asked as she stared at Walker, making eye contact but Walker kept looking away.
"I..." Walker trailed, avoiding eye contact the best he could. "I don't think we should be friends anymore."
Hailey felt her mood drop, the smile on her face completely disappearing.
"What, why?" Hailey said, fiddling with her jacket zipper.
"I just don't think it's good for me." Walker said, finally looking back at Hailey.
"Weโ we can't just stop being friends, we have dreams together, remember? Acting together, I already have a role booked and don't you, too? I mean, Walker, what is this?" Hailey rambled.
"Okay, stop talking." Walker put his hand up.
"No! No, I'm not gonna stop talking. What the fuck is this, are you actually Walker? What is your problem?" Hailey said, her face turning red.
"It's not good for me, I mean, I can't deal with you." Walker shook his head, putting his hands up in surrender.
"You're literally the main person in my life right now, I can't just stop being friends with you? What is wrong with me?" Hailey said, bringing a hand up to her face and wiping a tear that fell out on accident.
"Everything is wrong with you. You don't know when to stop, I mean, you're always all over me and it makes me go crazy!" Walker said, getting louder.
"What does that even mean?" Hailey said, wiping a second tear with her sleeve.
"It means that I can't stay your friend and be inlove with you! I can't just do that." Walker frowned, leaning down to Hailey's height a little.
"Bro, what?" Hailey frowned, then sniffing.
"I don't want to be inlove with you, and I totally am! I can't deal with it, I don't wanna be your friend. I don't wanna be your anything." Walker explained.
"Why?" Hailey asked, just letting the tears fall at this point.
"It doesn't matter. I already blocked you while you were walking here and did other things to avoid you." Walker said.
"Walker." Hailey tilted her head.
"Hailey." Walker said, standing up straight.
"You're not serious, are you?" Hailey asked as she frowned even more.
"We're done." Walker shrugged. He seemed unfazed, like he didn't even care.
Hailey stood up straight to get in Walkers face, "Fuck you, Scobell."
"You wish, Haven." Walker said, staring down at her.
"Bye." Hailey said and walked away, wiping her tears on the way.
That was the beginning of the worst years of Hailey's life.
โ
HAILEY STARED AT her shoes as her teacher taught the lesson. He was teaching some stupid math lesson. In this class, the teacher gave them seats that were permanent, so they had to sit in them for the whole year. It was her eighth grade year, and surprisingly, she had three classes with Walker Scobell.
"Hailey, care to answer my question?" the teacher asked, Hailey picking her head up so she wasn't staring at the ground and then looking at her teacher and all the eyes staring at her. Only one pair wasn't, though. Walker.
"What was the question, sir?" Hailey asked with her voice cracking a bit, looking at the chalk board behind her teacher.
"What's the area of this triangle?" the man asked, nodding his head for her to continue.
"Uh, fourty?" Hailey asked, doing the math in her head.
"Incorrect, sorry. Walker, what about you?" the teacher moved on. Hailey looked back down at her shoes, playing with her bracelets.
"It's thirty-two, sir." Walker said confidently.
"Correct, see, Hailey was off by eight. Maybe take some notes from Walker." the teacher said and turned around to the chalk board, then the boy infront of Hailey turning around to her.
"Maybe you should stick to acting, dumbass." the boy chuckled quietly.
"Maybe you should stick to digging in your ass, since your always doing that." Hailey shot back with a small voice, looking up at the boy infront of her.
"Okayโ"
"Maybe you should stick to the fucking gym." Hailey continued.
"That's enโ"
"Maybe you should stick to girls in this state, cause I heard about Carly." Hailey added once again.
"Haileyโ"
"Maybe you should stick to the lunch room." Hailey said, then the boy looked over at Walker.
"Help, Walker." the boy pleaded. Walker shrugged and looked back down at his notebook.
"Leave his ass out of this." Hailey said, kicking the boy infront of hers chair.
"Well, he has good comebacks." the boy said.
"Well, you have a big tummy, I don't ask for your help to finish my food." Hailey whispered, then hearing a laugh that tried to be held in from Walker, which caused the teacher to turn around.
"What's going on back there?" the teacher asked, spotting the boy that was turned around to Hailey.
"Nothing, he was asking if we had a quiz for this subject and then Walker coughed, didn't he?" Hailey said, then turning over to Walker, expecting him to say something.
"Yeah, allergies, ya' know?" Walker said, coughing to cover it up.
"Yeah, I mean, it is turning spring." the boy infront of Hailey added.
"Yeah." Hailey added.
"Uh, yeah, okay. We do have a quiz for this, and Walker, if the allergies get bad, ask to go to the nurse, okay?" the teacher said, believing the kids horrible lies. "Let's keep going, shall we?" the teacher turned back around.
That resulted in the kid whispering again, "Asshole."
"Fatass."
"Shut the fuck up, guys." Walker added.
