Chapter Sixteen: Christmas
17:31, 11 August 2022Sophie's POV: That night, I layed in bed thinking about Keefe as I waited for Grady and Edaline to make dinner. Keefe was so nice and funny and sweet and honestly pretty cute and what? I don't like Keefe. He's just... my friend. He doesn't like me. He probably likes someone like Biana. He just thinks of me as his friend.
But... he was the only one in the past few days that had come over to check on me. The only one who had made me smile since... Fitz.
"Sophie! Dinners ready!" Edaline called. I went downstairs. It was Christmas Eve and this was going to be my first Christmas with the Ruewens.
I looked at the table and it was filled with tons of delicious looking foods. I sat down at the table, getting myself a plate of food and started to eat. It was delicious and knowing Edaline, I had figured it would be.
When dinner was done, we hung our stockings and went to bed. I struggled to fall asleep but eventually I got super tired and fell asleep at about 12:30.
Ding dong. The doorbell rung waking me up. I tried to go back to sleep. Ding dong. It kept ringing. Sigh. Was no one going to get that? After 3 more rings I sighed and got up to answer the door. As I walked past my mirror, I saw my reflection. I looked weirdly nice for having just woken up. I must have gotten dressed at night. I was wearing a slightly cropped red sweater over a pair of jeans. My already brushed blonde hair was pulled back with two barrettes- one red and one green. I walked out of my room and downstairs to the door. When I opened it, it was Keefe. "Hey Foster," he said, running a hand through his hair, "merry Christmas," oh right, it was Christmas. "You too!" I said, smiling back at him. He stepped forward and grabbed my hand pulling me closer to him. What was he doing. Then he looked up, smirking. He pointed at the plant above us. Mistletoe. "Well, Foster, guess we have to kiss." He stepped forward and leaned in, getting close and about to kiss me. I could feel his breath on my skin and my heart sped up. I stepped slightly forward and closed the tiny bit of distance between us and-
"Good morning!" Edaline called. I let out a yawn, "merry Christmas sleepy!"
Christmas. Right. I looked at the clock. It was was 9:30 am. "You looked like you were having a good dream there. I was sorry to wake you. What we're you dreaming about?" Edaline asked in a way that made me wonder if I'd said anything in my sleep. I blushed pink. Keefe. That's what I was dreaming about. Keefe. Why was I dreaming about Keefe?
I told Edaline I'd meet her downstairs in a minute and quickly got dressed into my Christmas outfit- the one from the dream. I brushed through my hair and then ran downstairs, grabbing my presents for Edaline and Grady on the way. As I got downstairs I gasped looking at the tree. It was surrounded by countless presents in wrapping paper of many different colors. I added Grady and Edalines presents to the piles
When I walked over to the couch to sit, Edaline handed me a present. "Open," she said. I opened it as she instructed. It was a black dress. She gave me another present, a Jean jacket. Another: a pair of jeans. They kept coming. Eventually, we all ran out of presents to open. I had gotten loads of gifts. Lots of clothes and makeup but also tons of other things like a super cute new phone case.
When I looked at the clock, it was 4:15, time for the Vackers Christmas party. We were going to do secret Santa. I had gotten Keefe and yesterday when we were shopping, he pointed out a shirt he really liked. It was a Batman shirt. I told a little lie- that Batman was Grady's favorite superhero and that I was buying it for him- so that he wouldn't know I got him for secret Santa.
I walked outside and was waiting on the porch for Dex and his mom who were going to pick me and Keefe up. I pulled a book I had gotten today out of my purse and started reading it. It was a romance book where this girl Emmy and this guy Carter pretend that they're dating when Carters friends make fun of him for never having a girlfriend and Emmys wants to make her crush jealous and-
"Hey, Foster, Merry Christmas!" A voice said. I turned to see the only person who called me Foster as my mind flashed back to my dream. I shook my head to get rid of the thought and smiled.
"Hey, Merry Christmas, Keefe!" I said as he walked closer, sitting down next to me. "How's Christmas been so far?" I asked.
"Fine," he said in a way that made it seem like his day was anything but fine. I wondered if it had anything to do with his dad. "What's in there?" He asked, trying to peek into the brown target bag that held my secret Santa gift. He had a matching one next to him. We had all decided to have the same type of and size of bags so that we wouldn't know who it was from.
"No peeking!" I said, pulling the bag away from him before he could see anything. Suddenly, I heard a car drive up.
"Hey guys!" Dex shouted from the front seat of his car.
"Hey Dex!" I yelled back, running up to the car and getting in on the right, directly behind Dex.
Keefe hopped in next to me on the other side. "Excited for Secret Santa?" He asked.
"Yeah!" We all said as we continued driving to Fitz's House.
