Chapter 77

15:53, 4 October 2014

I sit up on the bed and adjust my eyesight. I got 5 hours sleep last night and I’m up at 9am. Kill me now...

I decide to go and find Jack or something but as I get out of bed, I notice all the smashed glass on the floor. I remember Conor telling me that he smashed something. I sigh in frustration and tip toe around it.

I walk downstairs and enter the kitchen to see Jack sat at the table on his phone while eating his cereal.

“Morning” I smile.

“Morning” he does the same. “Why did you leave last night?” he frowns.

“You took up the whole bed and I didn’t have any covers so I had no option than to go in Conor’s” I roll my eyes and he laughs.

“You should’ve just moved me up”

“You think I didn’t try that?” I raise an eyebrow, making him laugh. “Do you have a brush? Something smashed last night” I lie. I don’t just want to tell Jack that Conor smashed something because Conor might be embarrassed about it or something.

“Um, yeah. It’s in that cupboard” he nods to the corner of the room. I open the cupboard and find all the cleaning facilities in there and I eventually come across a dustpan and brush.

“Thanks” I smile, walking back upstairs and into Conor’s room. I can tell Jack didn’t believe that something smashed. I think he knew that it was Conor but that’s not for me to tell him.

After I’ve double checked that all the glass has gone, I wipe up the water with a tissue and put all the pieces of glass in the kitchen bin.

“What did he smash?” Jack asks, putting his bowl at the side of the sink.

“What?” I frown.

“I know Conor smashed something. What was it?”

“Oh um, just a glass” I shrug and he nods.

“Did he know you slept in his?”

“I accidently woke him up but nothing happened” I say, looking to the floor.

“It’ll be alright” he assures me, rubbing my back slightly. I smile and as I’m about to reply to him, Conor comes shuffling into the room, half awake. His hair is messed up and he’s only wearing his sweatpants that hang loosely around his waist. How does he manage to look so attractive first thing in the morning?

“Not interrupting anything am I?” he sighs, grabbing a glass out of the top cupboards and filling it with water. I sigh heavily and roll my eyes.

“Ignore him” Jack mimes to me and I nod slightly. Conor turns to face us and glares at me for a while.

“We need to talk” he says bluntly.

“No” I frown.

“Excuse me?”

“No. I’m having a nice time with Jack, I‘m not letting you and your attitude ruin that” I turn to Jack and he gives me a look as if to say ‘talk to him or things will get worse’. I just roll my eyes.

“Sorry” Conor sighs and I turn to him in confusion. “Please can we talk?” he smiles slightly and I nod hesitantly. We both turn to Jack who’s now smirking like crazy.

“Jack, go away” I laugh lightly and push him out of the room. I turn back to Conor and just look at him.

“You cleaned up the glass” he states the obvious. Jack wasn’t going to do it...

“Someone had to do it” I nod slowly.

“You could’ve cut yourself”

“You’re mad at me for cleaning up some glass?” I frown and he sighs.

“No, I just don’t like it when you always clean up my mess. You were fuming last night and you still cleaned my face” he laughs dryly. I choose to ignore him and just wait to see what he really has to say to me. Surely he didn’t get me on my own just to ask about why I cleaned up some glass. “And I’m sorry about last night. I was just angry”

“You always are” I shrug.

“Yeah, well people piss me off” he frowns.

“That’s no excuse to almost hit me and smash a glass”

“I wasn’t going to hit you” he sighs heavily. “You just turned around at the wrong moment”

“I’m surprised you even remember anything. You were well drunk”

“I was on a night out, that’s kind of what you do”

“Well maybe you should cut the amount you drink if it leads you into getting aggressive with everyone you pass. Let me guess, Alex didn’t come back to stay here because you got into an argument?” I ask and he looks to the floor. I knew Alex didn’t stay here last night for a reason. “Yeah. And I bet you started the argument because he didn’t fight Ben”

“You know what, if you’re being like this, you can fuck off” he raises his voce slightly.

“Sorry for telling the truth” I put my hands up in defence and he rolls his eyes.

“I don’t even know why you’re so mad at me for it. I got into a fight with Ben and you go mental. You don’t even know what fucking happened” he spits.

“I know what happened. It’s just the same old argument every time. You pick on Ben for being nice to me, and when he sticks up for himself you get all aggressive and take things out on people!” I breathe.

“I picked on Ben!? Fucking hell. You don’t know him at all” he shakes his head. “He’s saying that he’s going to fuck my girlfriend while I’m not there and you expect me to be calm about the situation?”

“Well by the sounds of things last night, you don’t want me to be your girlfriend anymore so why should it matter what Ben says?”

“I want you to be my girlfriend, Lucy. You just got me so mad-“

“No, you just take your anger out on other people. I was being reasonable about the whole thing!” I shout.

“How were you being reasonable? You screamed at me for being in a fight for defending you! Tell me how that’s fucking reasonable” he frowns.

I realise how this looks from his point of view. I know I’m being harsh on him about the whole situation but he needs to learn that I’d never choose Ben over him, and he shouldn’t give Ben what he wants. I feel like Ben just wants Conor to overreact and get in a fight. That’s if Conor’s telling the truth about this whole argument...

“You have anger issues” I sigh.

“I know” he mutters and I stay silent. “It’s always me making the effort and apologising for things that aren’t even my fault. You started the argument so you should fucking sort this out” he slams his glass of water on the desk making the water spill, and he storms out of the room.

“Woah,” Jack strolls into the room watching Conor walk up the stairs “what happened?”

I laugh slightly, “We just wasn’t agreeing with each other”

“No change there then” he rolls his eyes and I laugh.

“I’m gonna go apologise. I was a bit harsh and he was making effort” I sigh and Jack nods.

“Do whatever you think is best” he gets out his phone to distract himself while I’m gone. I pick up Conor’s glass he was just using and refill it with water. I also grab some tablets to cure the possible hangover he has.

“Oh and you can clean up the water on the counter” I say to Jack as I walk out of the kitchen.

“Dickhead” he mutters, making me laugh. As soon as I sort things out with Conor, I’m going straight back into that kitchen for food. I’m so hungry.

I slowly open Conor’s door in case he’s asleep but I see him at his recording studio desk on his laptop so I just walk in. I walk over to him and he turns to me.

“I got you these” I hand him the glass of water and put my hand out so he can take the tablets.

“Are you trying to drug me?” he teases, swallowing the tablets.

I laugh, “No they’re for your headache”

“How do you know I have a headache?” he smirks.

“You were pretty drunk last night. It would be a miracle if you didn’t have one” I say and he shrugs. “I’m surprised you didn’t go back to sleep when you came back upstairs” I sigh, sitting on his bed. He swivels his chair around to face me.

“I’m not tired” he shrugs and I nod. We both just look at each other smirking slightly until I break the silence.

“I’m sorry about earlier, I was being harsh”

“No, it’s my fault” he sighs. “I shouldn’t have done all that shit last night”

“Can you be honest with me?” I ask him and he nods. “Did Ben really say all that last night?”

“Yeah” he nods furiously. “Even ask Alex”

“It’s fine, I believe you” I assure him and he smiles. “And one more thing”

“Yes?”

“Do you love me?” I ask hesitantly. I found that really hard to ask but I had to. I need to know if he still wants to be with me and the subject actually makes me emotional. No matter how fucked up our relationship is, I could never even imagine life without him. I love him more than words can say.

“Lucy, what the fuck?” he frowns, walking over to his bed and sitting next to me. He puts his hand on my thigh.

“Last night you were doubting our relationship and it just made me think. D-Do you still want to be with me?” I stutter, holding in the tears that were brimming my eyes.

“Of course I do” he searches my eyes before pulling me in for a hug. I let my tears fall onto his t-shirt and hide my face in the crook of his neck. “I love you so fucking much, Lucy. Nothing can make me change that, no matter how angry you make me” he laughs slightly.

“I love you” I cry as he rubs my back slowly.

“Do you still want to go out later?” he asks as I pull away. He puts his hand up to my cheek and wipes the rest of my tears away.

“Depends where” I smirk, sniffling slightly.

“I don’t know what it’s called” he shrugs. “It’s nothing special, I just thought you’d like it”

It’s nice how he’s thought about taking me out somewhere because he knows I’ll like it. I’m not in the mood for staying in anyway and maybe if me and Conor go out tonight, it can clear the air between us.

“Yeah, okay” I smile and nod. “I’m going home first though”

“Thought you might say that” he rolls his eyes.

“Anyway, I’m starving” I stand up from his bed but he grabs me by the arm and pulls me back down.

“Don’t I get a kiss?” he pouts and I roll my eyes, leaning in and pecking his lips. “Is that it!?”

“You’ll get the rest later” I roll my eyes again, making him smirk. I walk out of the room with Conor following me and make my way into the kitchen.

“You alright?” Jack asks, receiving a scowl from Conor. I give Conor a warning look.

“I’m fine” I smile.

-

I get home and join Eleanor, Mum, Dad, Lauren and Matt in the living room where they’re having a massive group chat about something. Conor and I agree that he’s going to pick me up at 4pm to take me to this mystery place. I’m not really fussed about where we’re going, I’m just glad I’m spending time with him. Although, he told me to ‘wrap up’ because it’ll be cold so I’m a bit worried. He better not take me skiing or-

“Lucy” Eleanor snaps me out of my thoughts.

“Oh, sorry. I was daydreaming” I shake my head.

She laughs, “What are you doing today?”

“Conor’s taking me somewhere at four” I shrug and she nods.

“Just, I might be staying at Alex’s tonight” she looks to the floor.

“El! I thought we planned to stay together tonight” I pout.

“I know! But we can do that another time. You’re going out with Conor anyway so don’t shout at me” she moans and I roll my eyes.

“Yeah but I’ll be back by nine or something”

“Well Conor can sleep here tonight and I’ll give you two alone time” she winks.

“You’ve chose a boy over your best friend?” I raise my eyebrow.

“Don’t start Lucy. I stayed here alone last night and I didn’t complain”

“But we didn’t plan to do anything last night. If we did, I wouldn’t have made plans” I frown.

“We didn’t exactly make plans tonight though did we?” she sighs. Is she being serious?

“What the hell? We was talking before I went to Jack’s and we planned to stay in tonight”

I’m actually really annoyed at her for making other plans. She knew that we made plans for tonight and she’s just let me down to fuck Alex or something.

“I’m spending three weeks with you. Why are you getting mad that I’m spending one night with someone?” she raises her voice and I sigh in frustration. I don’t want this to get too heated because our parents are still talking in the same room as us.

“That’s not the point. We made plans and you let me down” I get off the sofa and storm upstairs.

I grab some clothes and make my way into the bathroom to have a shower and to try and relax myself. When I come out of the shower, I stay in the bathroom to brush through my hair and get changed. I still need to ask my Mum about getting plug sockets in here like in the ‘house’ we lived in, in Portsmouth. I’d be able to straighten my hair, blow dry it, charge my-

“Lucy?” Eleanor knocks on the bathroom door, interrupting my thoughts.

“What?” I snap.

“You okay?”

“Yes. Why wouldn’t I be?” I say confidently. I’m okay. I’m just angry at her...

“I was just checking!” she says defensively. She doesn’t speak again so I assume she’s walked away. I check my outfit’s ok before leaving the bathroom and entering my bedroom. I completely ignore my best friend sat on my bed on her phone and start to unravel my hairdryer. “Are we really arguing about this?” she asks before I turn the hair dryer on to blank her out.

The one disadvantage about having long hair is the fact that it takes ages to dry and it’s almost impossible to style. It drives me crazy but I’d never swap.

I turn on the straighteners and straighten the little kinks in my hair. My hair is kind of straight from the hair dryer so I just go over it for the sake of it. I tie it up in a really high ponytail and grab my maroon hoody. I put it on and follow with my leather jacket. He said wrap up so I’m putting on quite a few layers.

I put a pair of black gloves in my pocket and wear my other pair because I know that Conor won’t bring them and will complain about his hands being cold. I’m not giving up my gloves for him this time. He can wear his own. I debate about putting on a hat but I don’t suit those things and it would ruin my pony tail. I sound like such a drama queen.

“You look like you’re about to go to the Antarctic or something” El states. That’s a bit of an exaggeration... I just frown at her then look away.  “Where are you going anyway?”

“Out” I simply state before being saved by the doorbell. I jog downstairs and open the door quickly when I hear Eleanor following me.

“Hey” Conor smiles.

“Lucy, wait!” Eleanor calls but I quickly jump outside and close the door.

Conor looks at me in amusement, “Ok, are you going to explain?”

“She pissed me off” I sigh, walking down my driveway and following Conor’s lead.

“What’s happened?”

“We made plans to stay in tonight and she’s gone and made plans with Alex” I moan.

“I’ll stay with you” he shrugs.

“That’s not the point. She’s let me down. She chose a boy over her best friend”

“Well, you’re going to be spending the next two weeks or so with her so what’s the big deal?” he frowns. I had a feeling he wouldn’t take my side...

“It doesn’t matter! We made plans and she ditched me”

“True” he nods in understandment.

“But you can still stay with me” I smirk, looking away so I don’t have to make eye contact with him.

“Woo!” he fist pumps the air sarcastically and I roll my eyes, nudging him slightly. Me and El are like sisters so I’m not making a big fuss about this argument. We’ll be back to normal by tomorrow morning. I don’t think we’ve ever had a serious argument in our life and I’ve known her for practically all my life.

“Where are we going?” I ask when I realise I’ve no idea where the hell we are.

“I don’t know” he shrugs and I gasp. “I mean, I don’t know what it’s called. I’ve been there before so just chill” he tries to relax me but I’m still a bit on edge. He doesn’t sound sure about this whole thing. “Lois helped me plan this”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I was telling her that you’d probably like it so she put the idea in my head” he shrugs and I smile up at him.

“You’re adorable” I tease him. He hates it when I call him that.

“I’m not adora-“

“You’re not adorable, you’re a man. I get it” I finish his sentence and he starts laughing. I’ve heard that line so many times.

“Let’s play a game”

“What kind of game?” I raise my eyebrow.

“Not a dirty game, we can do that tonight” he winks and I gasp, making him laugh. “Let’s see how well we know each other”

“Ok, you first” I nod. I have no idea how to play this ‘game’ so I should pick it up when Conor starts.

“Ok” he starts to think. “You have a serious phobia of sneezes” he says and I laugh. “Your go”

“Um, you run your fingers through your hair when you’re nervous, annoyed or angry” I count my fingers.

“Do I fuck!” he frowns.

“Don’t even deny it! You always do!” I laugh and he rolls his eyes.

“You pick your nails in awkward situations” he smirks and I shrug. It surprises me that he picks up on such small things.

“You can’t watch a film with the lights on”

“You hate doing nothing”

“You have a weird obsession with Nando’s”

“Nando’s is God” he raises his eyebrows and I shake my head in disapproval. “You want to live in Australia”

“You’re terrified of spiders” I smirk and he makes a groaning noise.

“You find it hilarious when people burp or fart” he frowns and I burst out laughing.

“You’re the best singer in the world”

“That’s not true” he shakes his head.

“Let me have my opinion” I raise my hands in defence and he rolls his eyes. He is the best singer in the world.

“You’re the most beautiful person in the world” he smirks.

“That’s not true” I shake my head.

“Let me have my opinion” he mimics my actions. “It’s true though”

“It’s not”

“Lucy, accept the compliment before I take it back”

“Thank you Conor!” I squeal and wrap my arms around his neck and pecking his lips when I’m finished.

“I call you the most beautiful person in the world and all I get is a peck?” he smirks and I roll my eyes. I scan my eyes around the area and see that nobody is around, so I put my hand on his cheek and pull him into me. He places his hand lightly on my waist, sending shivers down my spine, and responds to my kiss immediately.

“Better?” I raise my eyebrow when we pull away.

“It’ll do for now” he winks and we continue walking to the middle of nowhere.
