Chapter 21
04:56, 3 August 2017Colby watched as the sun rose the black sky bleeding into deep red and bright blue that reminded him of Sam's eyes. His head hurt and his eyes felt heavy, his bottom sore for sitting on the Golbach's patio all night. He wanted nothing more than to be held by the blonde boy but instead he was stuck with his head in his hand, his phone resting next to him. All night his heart felt as if it was flat lining as he texted the unknown number all night only to get no answer. Colby was broken and unsure of how he could face the school day or any day after with out Sam by his side. Sam loved him, he loved Sam yet it seemed some worldly force had deemed them to be forced apart. Sam Golbach and Colby Brock were destined to be alone and broken their whole lives.
Sam's heart hurt, and his tongue seemed to feel lighter now that the word love was no longer hanging on it. His white rabbit turned out to be the red queen's weapon and his head is gone. The song, "Who painted my roses head" was slightly different, instead his mind sung, "Who fell for my leather trick" over and over again. Wonderland, once so lively and beautiful was now a nightmare of heart ache and trouble. Sam could almost feel himself slowly turn back into the shadow he always believed himself to be, nothing that never deserved love or attention. Sam jumped slightly at the sound of an opening door to look over to meet his mother's concerned gaze, "Sam? Why is Colby outside sitting on our patio?" Sam's lips trembled as he tried to voice his pain. Instead he collapsed in a fit of tears, heart wrenching sobs resounding through the air as the sound of his own heart breaking was heard in his ears, "Sammy, Honey. It's going to be okay." The frazzled mother cooed as she sat next to her boy, pulling him close to her chest. Her heart broke for her boy but unsure of how she could fix him. Ms. Golbach knew the day would come where a mistake would be made, where her son's obvious love for the other boy came to fast would come crashing down just the same.
"Mama? Why does it hurt so bad? Why can I still feel my heart telling me I love him?" Sam's voice came out warped and forced, "Why is it that I feel as if we are still soulmates?" Ms. Golbach didn't have an answer, her silence the only proof Sam needed, he was broken and no one but the boy who broke him could fix it. Instead the mother and Son laid together each lost in their own thoughts of uncertainty. The boy wanted nothing but for his life to go back to what it use to be. The mother wanted her moon to keep his glow, afraid he was fading away too fast. Outside the sea's waves created a whirlwind of hatred for the person behind the act and sorrow.
Sam didn't go to school but Colby did. His smile didn't reach his eyes and his mask easily slid back on with ease. His leather jacket rested on his back comfortably as things went back to the way things were in day one. Girls fawned over the hot, calculating, pick up liner Colby Brock as the men followed him around desperate to get just as popular as him. All that was missing was a certain blonde haired boy who would have been standing hidden seething at the new kid. Colby walked down the halls with a sway in his hips that Matt Rangers relished in. Watching the world fall back into order was something Matt waited a long time for. Macy on the other hand watched as she held her breath trying to come up with a way to fix the mess she helped create. The whole school went along with the change, it's what they were suppose to do. Anyone who steps out as Matt to speak to so they pretend to fawn over Colby but deep down if you were to look close you could see it, the sadness everyone held. Sam was no where in sight and it broke everyone's heart, it made them realize maybe there was no such things as soulmates because if Sam and Colby didn't work out then no one would.
Baby #1: No one really likes the mask Colby. I know for sure Sam didn't. Loose the leather and meet me behind the school after.
Colby cringed as the new text popped up on his screen. Reading Sam's name made his heart crack as he tried to remain composed. Quickly he texted back,
Colby: Fuck you. You ruined everything for me. I loved him and thanks to you it's over.
Macy flinched as she read Colby's texts but shrugged it off. She figured she deserved that. The guilt had never left her stomach, it was like a constant pain weighing her down,
Baby #1: You're mad, I get it. I'm sorry but I have a plan. I can fix this just meet me behind the school.
Colby decided that he would meet the stranger behind the screen. If anything Colby was ready to seriously injure who ever decide this was funny. Blue eyes and blonde hair seemed to be the only thing on Colby's mind and he wanted to feel Sam's lips on his, and...Colby felt like a drug addict who has been denied their drug of choice. Sam smile drove him crazy and the simple glow of Sam was intoxicating. He didn't care who the person was, they were going to pay for what they have done.
Colby: Fine. This better be good.
Macy resisted the urge to squeal in the middle of Blue Valley's hallway as she read and reread the response she got from Colby, the guilt finally feeling a little less heavy. She was going to fix the very thing she caused, with a smile resting on her lips she texted back,
Baby #1: It will be. And get rid of the jacket, we all know you hate it.
A/N: So like I feel like honestly there might be only like three chapters left and I am so excited. This book is my baby and I am so proud of it. I have plenty more ideas for Solby Fanfictions so keep your eyes peeled. I love you all so much. Thank you for all of your heartwarming compliments they will ALWAYS mean the world to me <3 Question: What kind of Solby fanfiction do you want to see me write in the future? ~Nightmare
