Chapter 11- The Time of the Angels

11:19, 20 June 2016

«What caused it to crash? Not me.» River inquired looking at her monitor.

«Nah, the airlock would have sealed seconds after you blew it. According to the Home Box, the wrap engines had a phase shift. No survivors.» the Doctor told her.

«About what?»

«Well, at least the building is empty. Aplan Tample. Unoccupied for centuries.» I answered. I just then noticed that the Doctor was still holding my hand and I also noticed that River and Amy was staring at us, so I left his hand and went by the River's and Amy's side, blushing madly.

River chuckled and returned at her monitor.

Amy ran to the Doctor and whispered in his ear «Aren't you going to introduce us?»

He sighed. «Amy Pond, Professor River Song.»

River gasped turning around «I'm going to be a professor some day. How exiting.» I laughed only to receive an unappreciative look from the Doctor. Which I completely ignored.

«Yeah, but who is she and how did she do that? She just left you a note in a museum.» Amy whispered again even though River was hearing everything.

«Two things always guarantee to show up in a museum: The Home Box of category four star-liner, and sooner or later, him. It's how he keeps score.» River told her and winked at me. I chuckled again seeing that the Doctor was really annoyed by her. In fact, while River was explaining Amy the whole thing, he even walked away from them.

I looked at him the whole time and, when he turned around and our gazes met, he rolled his eyes at Amy and River. I smirked with my hands crossed on my chest.

«I'm nobody's taxi service, I'm not going to be there every time you feel like jumping out of a spaceship.» The Doctor told River, inches from her faces while she was looking on her device.

«He will.» I assured her.

He looked at me «No. I won't.»

«Then I will, or Amy. Remember Doctor you made us wait for a while so you owe us everything we want.» I snapped back.

He frowned again, spinning sprung and walking away from River and Amy, mumbling something under his nose, grumpily. I chuckled a little and looked back at Amy, who was peeking on River's device over her shoulder.

«There's one survivor. There's a thing in the belly of that ship that can never die.» River said.

I frowned and looked at River curiously, the Doctor doing so too.

~~~~
River walked to the ship with her communication device, holding it to her ear.
«You lot in orbit yet? Yeah, I saw it land, I'm at the crash sight. Try and home in on my signal. Doctor! Can you sonic me? I need to boost the signal so we can use it as a beacon.»
Doctor took out the sonic of his pocket, utterly annoyed, and sonicked the phone form a distance, after which River gave him a little crusty.
He, grumpily, put the sonic back in his jacket, mumbling some inaudible stuff. Amy approached him, hands crossed on her chest «Ooh, Doctor you soniced her.»
I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from grinning, but I just couldn't.
River spun around again.
«We have a minute.» She called «Shall we?»
~~~~

«Where are we up to? Have we done the bone meadows?» River asked, turning around as soon as we approached. She was holding a journal in her hands.

«What's the book?» Amy asked.

«Stay away from it.» the Doctor said, mostly looking at me.

«What is it?»

«Her diary.»

«Our diary.» River corrected him while I was looking around.

«Her past, my... future.» The Doctor said bitterly. «Time travel, we keep meeting in the wrong order.» I heard him saying. Suddenly four man in green camouflage jackets appeared out of no where.

«You promised me an army, Doctor Song.» one of them told River approaching to the Doctor and Amy. Amy was acting really strange: she was being really close to the Doctor and always around him. I know she has a crush on him but there was this other guy. Her boyfriend. Rory, I think.

What about him? If Amy has a crush on the Doctor, what will Rory do?

«No, I promised you the equivalent of an army. This is the Doctor.»

The older guy looked at the Doctor. «Father Octavian, Sir.»

The Doctor stuck his hand to his temple, greeting him in a military way, smiling ear to ear. I chuckled at him.

«Bishop, second class. Twenty Clerics.» he shook his hands and Amy's and then looked at me. His eyes widened.

«H-Hello.» he suddenly stuttered looking at me, blushing a little. I blushed a little when he kissed my hand. I looked up at the others and caught the Doctors look which I didn't quite understand: disgust or annoyance.

When the man stood up I smiled slightly. He looked at me with a smile until the Doctor suddenly clapped his hands loudly «So! Where were we?» he stepped between me and Father Octavian, pushing him away from me rudely.

The man seemed embarrassed. «Umm... Yes, sorry. I was saying: the troops are already in the drop ship and landing momentarily. Doctor Song was helping us with a covert investigation. Has Doctor Song explained what we're dealing with?»

River looked at me with a cheeky smile «Doctor, Elizabeth, what do you know about the weeping angels.» I froze and the Doctor turned to look at River.

~~~~
«The angel, as far as we know, is still trapped in the ship. Our mission is to get inside and neutralize it. We can't go through the top, we'd be too close to the drivers. According to this, behind the cliff face, there's a network of catacombs leading right up to the temple. We can blow through the base of the cliffs, get into the entrance chamber, then work our way up.» Father Octavian told us the little speech. We were walking through a place with an encampment and people dressed in camouflage jackets running all around it.
«Oh, good.» the Doctor said landing on a table.
«Good, Sir?»
«Catacombs, probably dark ones. Dark catacombs, great!»
I grabbed his hand and squeezed it. He squeezed it back, thankfully, and rubbed his thumb back and forth on the back of mine. I knew he was scared of dark. But how I knew it was a mystery.
«Technically, I think it's called the maze of the dead.»
I didn't notice until then I was shaking violently. Apparently, the Doctor noticed it.
«Father Octavian!» he cut him off.
«Excuse me Sir. Ma'am.»
The next thing I know, the Doctor wrapped his hands around me hiding me in his embrace and resting his chin on top of my head. I buried my nose in his pink shirt and slowly relaxed in his scent.
«You two are letting people call yourself "sir" and "ma'am". You never do that. So, whatever a weeping angel, is really bad, yeah?» Amy pointed out and asked jumping on the desk near the Doctor. She was flirting but the Doctor was too blind to notice it.
«Now that's interesting: you're still here. Which part of "wait in the TARDIS till I tell you it's safe" was so confusing?» the Doctor asked while still hugging me but leaning slightly closer to observe her face.
I looked up at him. «Please Don't be Mr Grumpy face today.» I pouted resting my chin on his chest. He looked down at me «Shut up.» he shushed me and wrapped his hands even more around me, hiding my body completely.
It was strange that he was acting like this suddenly. I mean I love it but why? And why me and not Amy? She tried to get his attention and he gives it to me. I'm flattered and I love it. But I don't want to hurt Amy. She is a friend of mine and I really care for her.
«What's up with Lizzie?»
I wanted to answer, but the body shaking was still so violent that I was didn't know if I even was able to say something louder than a whisper.
«She's in shock. I'm trying to get her to relax.»
I chuckled in his shirt and blushed slightly.
«Now where was I... Oh, yes! A weeping Angel, Amy, is the deadliest, most powerful, most malevolent life from that has ever been produced, and right now, one of them is trapped inside that wreckage, and we're supposed to climb in after it with a screwdriver and a torch and assuming I survive the radiation-»
«Amy it's very dangerous and very serious so you should do as he says.» I finally found my voice and told her, still with the Doctors arms around me.
«Thank you, Lizzie.»
«You're welcome, Grumpy Face.»
Amy laughed quietly while the Doctor squeezed his arms around me making me feel good and wanted. Lovely feeling that I felt only when I was around him. After a minute we heard River calling «Doctor!» But he didn't move an inch, still hugging me.
I looked up on him. «Go, Doctor.»
He looked down at me concern. «Are you going to be okay?»
«Of course I'm going to be okay! I'm the queen of okay!» I told him with a smile and playfully nudging his shoulder. He laughed, even if I knew he was still concern.
«Okay. But be careful.» he told, pointing a finger at me while I jumped on the table next to Amy.
I rolled my eyes throwing my head back, annoyed «Go already!»
He gave me one more stern glance before leaving.
«Father Octavian!» River called and the guy left behind the Doctor, but not before giving me a glance.
«1) you noticed that, that 'father' guy is flirting with you, did you? And 2) Why do they call him father anyway?» Amy asked, coming next to me and crossing her hands on her chest. She was a bit taller than I was.
«He's their bishop, they're his clerics. It's the Fifty First century, the church has moved on.» I told her.
She was about to answer when River called me and her too so Amy and I started walking to a bunker. It wasn't big, with a screen stuck on the wall. As soon as it turned on I resisted the urge to run away: it was a Weeping Angel. I wasn't scared of the Daleks or Cyberman but the Weeping angels were my worst nightmare.
I backed up in horror but soon a hand grabbed mine, entwining my fingers with its, and squeezing it. I looked up to meet the Doctors eyes. He smiled at me encouragingly, but I could tell he was frightened too.
«What do you think? It's from the security cameras in the Byzantium vault. I ripped it when I was on board, sorry about the quality. It's four seconds. I've put it In a loop.» River told us.
«It's definitely a weeping angel.»
"No shoot, Sherlock." I wanted to say, but resisted because I saw how truly scared he was, even if he tried not to show it.
«You've encountered the Angels before?» Father Octavian inquired.
«Uh, once. It wasn't that long ago. Then they were scavengers, they were only barely surviving.» The Doctor answered.
«But it's just a statue.» Amy said.
«It's a statue when you see it.» River told her.
«Where did this particular angel come from?» I asked stepping in the conversation.
«Pulled from the ruins of Razbahan, end of last century. It's been in private hands since then, dormant all of that time.» River replayed.
«That's a difference between Dormant and Patient.» He told her. I was still shaking slightly.
The Doctor squeezed my hand and my shaking calmed.
«What do you mean "it's a statue when you see it"?» Amy inquired again.
«The weeping angels can only move if they're unseen. So legend has it.» River told her while I left his hand and approached the screen.
«It's not legend it's Quantum locked in the sight of any leaving...» The Doctor tried to hold on a pice of a rope hanging from the ceiling but ripped it off. He continued speaking anyways even if Everyone rolled their eyes while I just chucked silently «...creature. The Angeles literally sees to exist it's just stone. The ultimate defense mechanism.» he threw the pice of rope away, acting cool.
«What being a stone?» Amy asked.
«Being a stone... Until you turn your back.» I said standing in an corner of the room with my arms crossed on my chest.
Everyone looked at me: fear, horror and scare all together printed on their faces, and what did I do? I smiled ear to ear.
Definitely passed too much time with the Doctor.
~~~~

Amy and I remained in the room with the video playing on the screen while everyone got out, following the Doctor.

We excited to see if everyone were needing us but, after Father Octavian told everyone their jobs, I just returned in. Amy tried to get some attention by shouting «Anybody needs me?» but no answer was given.

I looked back at the screen and my eyes widened in horror: the angel. It has moved.

«Amy.» I whispered in a shaky voice.

She looked at me then at the point where I was looking until she saw it too.

Amy and I started getting closer to the screen slowly begging that it wasn't true and we were just really tired. But no, it was there. Still as stone even though it wasn't.

I looked at Amy and walked to the door. «River? Do you have another video of the angel?»

She turned around while the Doctor was sniffing an old book. «No, sweetie, just that one.» she said and then turned back to the Doctor.

I looked back at Amy and then at the angel and... Oh my god. It was turned facing us completely.

«Amy, stay close to me.» I stared walking to it, slowly and looking in its eyes. I knew I shouldn't have done that, but I couldn't resist staring in its black eyes.

I approached to it and looked at the time and, clearly, Amy did the same cause when I raised my eyes, the angel was standing right in front of that camera.

I gasped and jumped back a little, and Amy did so too. We continued looking at the angel when I heard the door shutting. I gulped.

«A-Amy... Take that remoter and turn it off.» I told her, keeping my eyes fixed on the awful creature.

I heard Amy's steps behind me and, the second after, she was standing next to me again, with a remote. She pressed the button and the screen turned off.

And back on.

She tried to push it again but it didn't work. She tried a couple of times but it wasn't working so I took it from her and put it down.

I started getting closer to the screen. «But it's just a recording. It can't move.» Amy whispered trying to convince herself. And then I remembered and a wave of terror took me over.

«No, Amy. Everything that holds the image of an Angel becomes it self an angel.» I was staring at the image. She gulped.

«Amy, go call for the Doctor.» I told her still looking at the screen and being inches from it.

I heard Amy running to the door but then stopping.

«It's locked.» she whispered.

I turned at her wide eyes. «What do you mean it's locked?!» but then I met with her eyes. There was fear in them. But I was much more scared... Cos... If Amy was looking at me... No one was looking at the angle.

I turned around only to jump back stiffening a scream: the angle's mouth now was open and showing it's sharped teethes.

«D-D-Doctor.» I whispered, stuttering, signalizing for Amy to call him.

«Doctor...» but her voice was lost too. She was scared and I can't deny I wasn't. I started backing up to the door.

«Amy, look at it. I'll try to open the door.» I tried to move the handle but it was impossible. I stared at the angel's sharped teethes and at it's kneels... It was staring at us with it's blank eyes...

«Doctor!» I pounded the door and kicked it only hurting my own toe.

«Doctor!» Amy soon joined me. But I already gave up.

The angel was looking at me and was ready to kill me. I pushed myself on the wall and slid down it then hugging my legs, having as a background Amy shouting for the Doctor.

I swallowed, staring in the eyes of the angel. My eyes suddenly started burning and I felt the urge to close them. I tried to tell Amy to look at it while I was blinking but I couldn't speak. I felt tears growing in my eyes and in my throat.

«DOCTOR! DOCTOR PLEASE! DOCTOR SAVE US!» Amy was shouting and pounding the door with her feet and hands but it wasn't helping.

Theta... I thought ... Please save me.

And then I blinked.
