Chapter 7. Just a little bit of fun .. and a lot of hard work

I climbed up the side of the building, because i'm just awesome like that. I know if most people heard about my childhood, they'd expect me to be all serious and stuff like sasuke. But really, I'm just trying to make up for the childhood i never had. 

I mean, look at Uchiha. He's always serious, but he never has fun. I might as well live my live to the fullest while i can, right?

I reached the top, and masked my chakra so kakashi wouldn't sense me. I appeared behind him and......

He flipped me over his back.

Sakura ran up to me. "Maki, are you all right? I told you not to go!"

Naruto just laughed at me. Figures.

Even Sasuke cracked a smile. Huh.

I groaned on the floor in a 'i give up' position. That was quite painful, being flipped on hard ground. "What was that for?' I asked my uncle still on the ground.

"For sneaking up on me and for skipping out of introductions. I may start new approaches to your punishments since obviously my lectures aren't working."

I rolled my eyes. "Is all you think about new punishments for me?"

"Is all you think about wreaking havoc in the hidden leaf village and rebellion?" He shot back.

"Touche." I muttered, getting up.

"Now, Introduce yourself." He said.

"But everyone already knows me!"

"But you're the only one that HASN'T introduced yourself, so introduce yourself young lady."

"Who made you the parent here?" I asked angrily.

"The papers that say i'm your legal guardian." He said calmly.

hmm , i sense deja vu.

"And besides" He continued. " I'm you're sensei now too, so you have to listen to me."

"So i didn't have to listen to you when you were my guardian?" I asked, smirking.

Kakashi was turning red now. I could tell I was pushing him. Haha, only i could do this to him.

"Just be quiet and introduce yourself!" He yelled.

"Ok ok..." I said with my hands in front of me.

He sighed, relieved that it was over.

Haha, not yet.

I smirked. "So which one is it old man, Be quiet or introduce myself, because i can't do both." 

The three genin watching my uncle and i bicker burst out laughing. Yes, even Sasuke Uchiha.

No i take that back. Sasuke and Naruto were laughing. Sakura held this horrified expression on her face. I don't think she approves of the way i talk to my elders. Hm, oh well.

Kakashi had just about had it. "I AM NOT AN OLD MAN. I'M ONLY 24!!! AND DON'T BE SMART WITH ME YOUNG LADY OR ELSE-"

I cut him off from his threat to ruin it. "Or else you'll ....." I asked, bored.

He looked like he was about to burst now. Like a pinata. Ohhh, i want candy.

"Hey Kakashi?" I asked.

"It's Kakashi Sensei to you now!"

"Hmm, anyway. If you burst, will candy pop out of you?" I asked eagerly.

I zoned out for a moment, imagining that in my mind.

I came back into the world of reality and Kakashi looked like he was waiting for a reply.

"I'm sorry, did you say something?" I asked calmly.

Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto sweatdropped and Kakashi went on a rampage.

Hm, i've never seen my uncle this out of control.

Guess I finally got a reaction out of him. Well, i supposed it's time to end this.

"Well, my Name is Maki Hatake. My dream for the future is to become one of the best jounin out there. I want people to know my name like they know my uncles name: Kakashi or the Sharingan, The Copy Cat Ninja. I want to come up with an awesome jutsu that's all mine. What i like is kicking butt! What i dislike is people who only give a damn about themselves. So yeah, Now that that's that. What's up guys? What'd i miss?"

"Really Maki? You could have avoided all that and just introduced yourself." Kakashi said annoyed.

I shrugged. "Yeah, i know. But what's the fun in that, eh?"

Kakashi sensei (Ugh that feels weird to call him) patted my head. "You're such a trouble maker Maki." 

I gave him a close eyed smiled. "But that's why you love me!" I sang.

"Hm, can't wait to try out  my new punishment method."

crap. I don't like the way kakashi thinks when it comes to discipline.

That didn't stop me from mouthing off though.

"Can't be better than you're lectures or tieing up a hospitalized bedridden person." I said, scoffing.

He had an evil look in his eye. "We'll see Maki, We'll see. Actually, i think you'll like this method better. Now, as i was telling the team before you showed up and i kicked your ..uh.. butt. yes, butt. As i was saying, Meet tomorrow at the training field at 5 am sharp. Don't eat breakfast, you'll throw up."

I snorted. "5 am, eh? You guys should just save yourselves a lot of irritation and show up at 9." I said to my three teammates.

Kakashi sweatdropped. "Why did i recommend you for my team again?" He asked no one in particular.

"SO IT WAS YOU WHO SWITCHED THE TEAMS?" i yelled. 

He nodded. "Sorry, i know you do-"

I jumped on his back and  gave him a hug. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouuuuu I owe you big time Kakashi Uncle thank youuuuuuuuuuu" I even gave him a big dramatic sloppy kiss on his cheek. Haha, my saliva was on his face.

I jumped on his back. "Heh.. heh sorry." I said.

He did look kind of surprised, but then he got upset about the saliva on his cheek.

I just laughed at that. I turned around to my teammates. "So, guys-"

No one was behind me. Wow, they ditched us. Okay.

Kakashi laughed. "C'mon Maki, let's go home."

*Back at home.

"Hey Uncle?" I asked Kakashi. He was reading his book like always. I sat down next to him on the couch.

"Hn? What is it Maki?""Do I have to go to the training thing tomorrow? I'm not on the same level as the genin and you know it. I could probably be an anbu right now If i really wanted to, i'm just trying to seem like a normal 12- year old."

He sighed. "If you really don't want to, you've got a point."

"But can you train me afterwards? I would really like to learn the chidori." 

He nodded. "Sure, but i have to warn you, it's very hard training."

I shrugged and walked back to my room. Before i was out of his hearing range though, i turned my head slightly and spoke. "I've probably been through worse."\

I slept that night with nightmares like usual. The akatsuki, my parents all bloodied and whatnot, you know the usual. I woke up screaming like always.

Can't get one night to sleep peacefully. 

*Next day, afternoon.

I walked onto the training grounds. Kakashi sensei ( gotta get used to calling him that!) sasuke, sakura and naruto were on the field. They all looked fairly happy, so i'm betting that they passed the test and everything's alright.

Naruto soon spotted me. "Maki!!! where were you! We passed, we aren't getting sent back to the academy!!"

I laughed. "That's great Naruto, and i didn't have to go. Kakashi sensei already knows my strengths and weaknesses."

"Sensei, that's not fair, why'd Maki have to skip out on the training exercise?" Sakura asked Kakashi. Wow, she really sounded annoying right now. I just rolled my eyes at her question though about to answer. Kakashi beat me to it though.

"She has a different training session with me today. Right now, actually. You guys are free to go home. Maki, stay."

Everyone went there own ways, leaving just me and my new sensei.

"Okay sensei, what now." I asked. He led me to a track.

"We are going to work on your speed."

I groaned. "Really? I'm pretty fast if i must say so myself." Kakashi sensei (still feeling awkward calling him that.) raised an eyebrow at me. "Really now?"

I nod. "Run a mile." He said. ugh, so much work.

I ran a mile in 4 minutes and 34 seconds.

I breathed hard as sensei walked over to me. I gave him a lazy smirk since i was really tired.

"Told ya, i move pretty fast." I said.

He nodded. Victory, ha.

"Not good enough, run it again." He stated.

My eyes jumped out of their sockets and my jaw dropped hitting the ground.

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! HOW IS THAT NOT GOOD ENOUGH, THE AVERAGE NIN CAN RUN A MILE IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES, AN AVERAGE GIRL NIN CAN RUN A MILE ABOUT 6 MINUTES. i'M WAY ABOVE AVERAGE!"

He sighed. "For the chidori is a lightning style chakra type. You gather an enormous amount of chakra in your hand, enough so that it can be visible. But for it to have to the desired effect on your opponent, you have to hit them with this jutsu at the speed of lightning. 

And if i'm correct, lightning can do the mile faster than 4 minutes and 34 seconds."

I think he smirked but i couldn't tell because of his mask. Sure sounded like it.

"So what does my time need to be?" I ask, not recovered from my run.

"Aim for a minute. Keep running till you get there. I'll be here. Reading my book. Tell me when you've achieved a minute."

He gave me a close eyed smile and sat down to read his book.

I started the mile again, sprinting the whole thing through. My time: 3 minutes and 20 seconds. I think i'm dying. 

After doing the same thing two more times, My best result was 3 minutes and 16 seconds. I'm not improving very much. And on top of that i think i'm about to faint. 

But I can't. I bragged to Kakashi, i told him i'd probably been through worse. I can't let him win this.

I ran it again. 3 minutes and 11 seconds.

I was about to do it another time when I fell to my knees, barely breathing. I'd have to be the yellow flash, aka the fourth hokage, to be able to achieve the mile in one minute.

"Hm, tired yet." I didn't even realize that Kakashi sensei was standing right next to me.

I grunted still breathing pretty darn hard. I bet i sounded like a demented donkey.

"Okay, get up, let's take a break."

A break did sound nice right now.

"Fight me." He said.

"what? i thought it was break time?" I asked.

"This is your break. No ninjutsu or genjutsu allowed. This is just taijutsu. Now get up and fight me. You need to learn how to fight when you're exhausted."

I took a few deep breaths and got up. If he wants a fight then a fight he will get. 

We sparred for a couple of hours. I was fending for myself pretty well, but i was on defense the whole time because i was too exhausted to beat kakashi.

By the time Kakashi sensei said that we were done sparring,  it was night time. my stomach growled. Kakashi held an apple to my face. I grabbed for it but he took it back.

"Give me a 3: 10 on the mile and i'll let you have it."

Now let me remind you ladies and gentlemen. I was practically on my death bed. I couldn't even form words properly.

Kakashi shrugged when i didn't reply. "Or you could just run the track till you get 3:10. I'll stay and read." 

But it's dark outside, how can he read? I mentally asked myself. 

As if reading my mind, he took a flashlight out of his pants.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT. who carries a flashlight with them? Hm, well. My uncles weird.

So he went back to reading and I went back to running the track. 

...... I woke up from the normal niightmares. 

Wait. I woke up? I looked around and i was in my bed. Huh, guess i must have passed out on the track.

My body was sore and i was exhausted, so i just went back to my nightmares, not caring what was going to be in my dreams next.

**Morning time

"Hey kid, wake up." My eyes opened slowly and everything was blurry. "Unghh." I replied.

I felt something shake me and I whimpered in pain.

'Huh, not so sarcastic now are yah." Kakashi said. I glared up at him.

"What are you talking about." I asked, irritated because i was tired and exhausted.

"My new method of punishment! It's effective. You hate and but your body also benefits from it. It's brilliant, right?"

I glared at him again. So his new method is hard training. Figures, we ARE a family of ninjas.

But i have to say, it's a pretty smart idea. Even if it sucks for me. It'll definitely minimize my ... rebellious acts.

Kakashi sensei gave me a close eyed smile. 

"Whatever." I muttered. 

"Stay in bed today, rest up. You can take a break from the days missions."

I grunted and he left me alone.

I should have stayed in bed, but lately i've been getting really out of shape, so i started my normal routine again.

Run with weighted bag, push- ups, ab workouts, leg workouts, nin, gen and tai- jutsu.

I had to get stronger. 

i WILL get stronger.

If not for me then..

For the people i know i will come to love.
