The harsh buzzing of her alarm jolted Ariana awake, her heart racing as the events of the previous night came flooding back. Sunlight streamed through the small window of her room, casting a warm glow on the concrete walls. For a moment, she lay still, her mind reeling as she contemplated what the day might hold.

With a deep breath, Ariana swung her legs over the side of the bed, her bare feet meeting the cool floor. She padded over to the small dresser, eyeing the limited selection of clothes with a critical gaze.

Negan's words echoed in her mind: "Wear something pretty."

After careful deliberation, she settled on a fitted black tank top and a pair of jeans. It wasn't exactly "pretty," but it was the best she could do with her limited wardrobe. As she dressed, Ariana couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and dread. What did Negan have planned for her? The uncertainty gnawed at her as she ran a brush through her tangled hair, wincing as she worked out the knots.

A soft knock at the door made her jump. She opened it to find Sherry standing there, a knowing smirk on her face.

"You've got a big day ahead."Sherry said, slipping into the room. Her eyes widened as she took in Ariana's outfit. "Is that what you're wearing?"

Ariana frowned, glancing down at herself. "What's wrong with it?"

Sherry shook her head, clicking her tongue.

"Honey, if you're spending the day with Negan, you need to step it up a notch." She rummaged through Ariana's meager wardrobe.

Sherry's nimble fingers danced through Ariana's limited wardrobe, pulling out items and holding them up with a critical eye.

"Aha!"

She exclaimed, triumphantly brandishing a forgotten sundress that had been shoved to the back of the drawer. The dress was a soft blue, patterned with delicate white flowers.

"I've never seen that before." Ariana murmured, running her fingers over the fabric.

Sherry's eyes sparkled. "It's perfect. Slip it on, quick!"

Sherry's deft hands worked their magic, transforming Ariana's appearance with a few expert touches. A hint of blush brought warmth to her cheeks, while a swipe of mascara made her eyes seem wider, more luminous. As well as working her magic on Ariana's untameable hair. As a finishing touch, Sherry dabbed a soft pink gloss on Ariana's lips.

"There." Sherry said, stepping back to admire her handiwork. "Now you're ready to face the big bad wolf."

Ariana turned to look at herself in the small, cracked mirror hanging on the wall. The reflection that stared back at her was almost unrecognisable. The sundress hugged her curves in all the right places, its hem swishing just above her knees. The soft blue working well with her dark brown eyes, making them sparkle with an intensity she hadn't seen in months.

"I look..."

Ariana trailed off, unable to find the right words. The woman in the mirror was a far cry from the exhausted, worn-down survivor she'd become accustomed to seeing. This version of herself exuded a quiet confidence, a hint of the person she used to be before the world fell apart.

Sherry squeezed her shoulder. "You're beautiful."

A knock at the door made both women jump. Ariana's heart raced as she smoothed down her dress, suddenly feeling exposed and vulnerable. Sherry gave her an encouraging nod.

Taking a deep breath, Ariana opened the door. To her surprise, it wasn't Negan who stood there, but Dwight. His scarred face was uncharacteristically hesitant as he took in Ariana's appearance, his eyes widening slightly at the sight of Sherry behind her, before he quickly averted his gaze.

"Negan sent me to escort you." Dwight said gruffly, his voice betraying a hint of discomfort. "He's waiting in his office."

Ariana nodded, steeling herself as she stepped into the hallway. The concrete corridors of the Sanctuary seemed colder than usual, the harsh fluorescent lights casting stark shadows as they walked. Saviours they passed did double-takes, their eyes lingering on Ariana's transformed appearance. She held her head high, refusing to shrink under their scrutiny.

As they approached Negan's office, Ariana's heart began to race. The imposing black door loomed before them, a silent sentinel guarding whatever lay beyond. Dwight knocked twice, his knuckles rapping sharply against the heavy wood. A muffled "Come in" sounded from within, and Dwight pushed the door open, gesturing for Ariana to enter.

Ariana stepped into Negan's office, her eyes adjusting to the dim lighting. This time, a massive desk dominated the center of the space, its surface cluttered with maps and documents. Behind it sat Negan, leaning back in a high-backed leather chair, his feet propped up on the desk.

As Ariana entered, Negan's eyes widened almost imperceptibly, a flash of appreciation crossing his face before his usual cocky grin slid back into place. He stood slowly, his gaze raking over her form with unconcealed interest.

"Look at you dressed up all pretty for me." He circled around the desk, his movements predatory and deliberate.

Ariana stood her ground. "Just doing what you asked of me. I do what I'm told." She replied, her voice steadier than she felt.

Negan's grin widened, a mixture of amusement and appreciation dancing in his eyes. "Oh, I bet you do."

"So." Ariana said, forcing herself to maintain eye contact despite the rapid beating of her heart. "What are we doing today then?"

Negan's eyes glinted mischievously as he closed the distance between them, stopping just short of invading her personal space.

"Eager, aren't we?" He chuckled, the sound low and gravelly. "I've got plans for you, darlin'. Big plans."

With a dramatic flourish, he gestured towards the door.

Negan led Ariana out of his office and through the winding corridors of the Sanctuary. As they walked, Saviours scrambled to get out of their way, pressing themselves against the walls and averting their eyes. Ariana could feel their curious gazes burning into her back, no doubt wondering what their fearsome leader had in store for her.

They emerged into the bright sunlight of the courtyard, and Ariana blinked rapidly, her eyes adjusting to the sudden change. A sleek black car sat idling near the gates, its engine purring softly. Negan strode towards it, opening the passenger door with an exaggerated bow.

"Your chariot awaits, my lady." He said with a wink.

Ariana hesitated for a moment before sliding into the leather seat. The interior of the car smelled of pine and leather, a stark contrast to the musty scent of the Sanctuary. As Negan slid into the driver's seat beside her, she felt a flutter of nervous anticipation in her stomach.

The gates of the Sanctuary creaked open, and Negan gunned the engine, sending them speeding down the overgrown road. Trees whipped past in a blur of green, the wind whipping through Ariana's hair as Negan rolled down the windows. For a moment, she closed her eyes, savoring the feeling of freedom, however temporary it might be.

"Where are we going?" Ariana asked, raising her voice to be heard over the rush of wind.

Negan's lips curved into a mysterious smile. "You'll see, darlin'. It's a surprise."

As they sped down the winding road, Ariana found herself studying Negan's profile. His eyes were focused on the road ahead, one hand resting casually on the steering wheel while the other draped over the gear shift. The leather of his jacket creaked softly with each movement, and Ariana could smell the faint scent of whiskey and something uniquely Negan.

Negan turned off the main road after a while onto a narrow dirt track, the car bouncing and jostling as they made their way up a steep incline. Trees closed in around them, their branches scraping against the sides of the car.

Just as Ariana was about to ask again where they were headed, the trees suddenly parted, revealing a breathtaking vista. The car emerged onto a cliff overlooking a vast valley, lush and green, untouched by the ravages of the apocalypse. A crystal-clear lake sparkled in the distance, its surface like a mirror reflecting the azure sky above.

Negan brought the car to a stop, killing the engine. The sudden silence was almost deafening after the roar of the wind and engine. He turned to Ariana, a hint of genuine excitement in his eyes.

"What do you think?" He asked, gesturing towards the view.

Ariana was speechless for a moment, drinking in the sight before her. It had been so long since she'd seen anything so beautiful, so untouched by the horrors of the world they now lived in.

"It's... incredible."

Negan's lips curved into a satisfied smile at Ariana's awe-struck reaction.

"Thought you might appreciate this little slice of paradise." He said, his voice uncharacteristically soft. "Not many people know about this spot. It's my own private getaway."

He stepped out of the car and made his way around to Ariana's side, opening her door. As she stepped out, the full beauty of their surroundings hit her. The air was crisp and clean, filled with the scent of pine and wildflowers. A gentle breeze rustled through the trees, carrying with it the distant sound of birdsong - a rarity in a world where even the wildlife had been decimated by the undead.

Ariana's breath caught in her throat as she took in the panoramic view. The valley stretched out before them, a patchwork of emerald forests and golden meadows. In the distance, snow-capped mountains pierced the sky, their jagged peaks disappearing into wisps of cloud. The lake she had glimpsed from the car now revealed its true majesty - a vast expanse of shimmering blue that seemed to go on forever.

"It's like the world before." Ariana whispered, her eyes wide with wonder. "I'd almost forgotten places like this could still exist."

Negan leaned against the fence beside her, his usual bravado softened by the tranquil surroundings. "It's easy to forget, isn't it? When you're surrounded by death and decay day in and day out."

He turned to look at her, his dark eyes searching her face. Ariana nodded, unable to tear her eyes away from the breathtaking vista.

"How did you find this place?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Negan's lips quirked into a half-smile.

"Stumbled upon it by accident, if you can believe it. Was out on a run, got turned around, and ended up here." He paused, his gaze distant. "Thought I was dreaming at first. Seemed too good to be true."

Ariana felt a sudden urge to explore this hidden paradise. She stepped away from Negan, her sundress swaying gently in the breeze as she made her way towards a nearby wildflower meadow. The grass tickled her bare legs as she waded through the sea of colors - vibrant purples, soft pinks, and brilliant yellows dotting the landscape.

Negan followed a few paces behind, his usual swagger replaced by a more relaxed gait. As Ariana bent to examine a particularly striking blue flower, she heard him chuckle softly.

"What?" She asked, glancing back at him.

"Nothing." He said, shaking his head. "Just never thought I'd see the day when a pretty girl in a sundress would be picking flowers in my secret hideaway."

Ariana felt a blush creep up her cheeks, but she forced herself to meet Negan's gaze. There was something different about him here, away from the Sanctuary and his role as the feared leader. His eyes seemed softer, the hard lines of his face less severe.

"Do you say that to all the girls?" She said, a hint of playfulness in her voice.

"Just you."

"I never thought I'd be picking flowers with the big scary boss man himself. Life's full of surprises, isn't it?"

Negan's laugh echoed across the meadow, deep and genuine. "That it is, darlin'. That it is."
