Chapter 8- Not Over You

I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was facing to the side away from the door. It also happened to be the side Britain was on. When I saw him his eyes were staring at me intently, as if he were waiting for me to say or do something these past few hours. I jumped out of the bed freaked out.

“What the heck man?! Why are you staring at me like that?!” I yelled.

“I don’t know… I just wanted to.” he stammered.

“Wha? Have you lost your mind?”

“Maybe I have. Who knows?”

“Whatever.”

I walked out of the room, still in my uniform from yesterday. I walked to the bathroom and changed into a new one after I took a shower. I never realized how much I stunk until I smelled my clothes which were soaked in sweat, dirt and blood from the day before. How did Britain sleep in the same bed with me? My cheeks flushed at the statement I just made.

I mean it’s not like we did anything so it’s not a big deal right? I nodded my head but I couldn’t keep his intense eyes out of my head. Why did he look at me like that? It made me feel like he was gonna kiss me… again. Although I was pretty sure that was a one time thing.

I walked outside of the bathroom, drying my hair with a towel as I went. As I walked toward the kitchen the smell of burnt food filled my nostrils. No he wasn’t! I rushed around the corner to find him putting a plate of his precious scones on the table. I tried to walk away but he seemed to hear my footsteps when the creak underneath the floorboards gave me away.

“Hey! Are you trying to play ninja or something?” He asked, peaking his head over the corner.

“Who? Me? Course not! Why would I try to hide?” I said, shivering almost.

“Don’t you have something you have to do today?” he asked.

“Hmmm… Oh yea! I have a meeting with my boss today. Something about trading with Japan or whatnot. If you ask me I think meetings are boring though.” I replied.

“Lazy American,” he sighed in response.

“I’m not lazy I just get bored easily.” I defended.

“Whatever. Would you eat some of this for me?” he asked, pointing to the plate.

I stared at the plate, fear coming to my face. Last time someone besides me tried his cooking they choked and almost suffocated. Although maybe I will be lucky since I grew up eating his food but I don’t know how I survived that. I guess when you get older my taste buds increased allot.

“Do I have to?”

“No but I made it for you…” he pouted.

Ok let me just say his pouting face was the most adorable thing I had seen since that dog I saw at the pet shop the other day. It almost made me want to hug him like I would that puppy but I stopped myself. That would be so awkward… It crippled me into not being able to say no. I had to eat it.

I grabbed one of the scones of the plate and bit into the hard food. The small biscuit alone almost broke my teeth and the taste made me want to hurl. I choked on it and spit it out into the trashcan. Stupid emotions not letting me say no!

“It was… wonderful.” I lied.

“Liar!”

“All right it was the most horrible food I have eaten since the last time I ate your cooking.”

“If you knew it was going to be horrible then why did you eat it?!”

“Cause I just couldn’t say no to your face… It was cute.” I managed to say, blushing.

He blushed and looked straight into his eyes. I didn’t want to move. Something made me want to stay and even if I couldn’t say anything just look into his eyes. Although the moment dragged on for so long I had to stop it. It was just weird…

“Well I uh, I gotta go.” I said running for the door.

I opened the door and shut it behind me. What was all that about? Why was my face so red? Why?

I went to my meeting with all my thoughts clouding in my mind. How could I possibly think of the trading with Japan with all that going on back at my house? I had to spend some time thinking about it. My boss let me excuse myself from this meeting today and I walked out of his office, my head in the clouds.

I stared across the street at the café that I was running to earlier. I sat down at a table set for two and ordered a cup of tea from the waiter. I kept sipping and thinking until all the tea had disappeared into my stomach and I set the empty teacup on the saucer and paid the check.

“I guess I’m just not over you am I?” I asked to myself.

I walked home, thinking of what I would tell the Brit when I arrived.
