Just like fire

10:25, 6 June 2016

Katherine Cho walked hurriedly towards her next act in Tokyo square. She was spending the next few months in Japan performing street magic until it was time for her to make her way back to China. She liked to alternate between the two as she loved them both equally.

And it was pretty handy to perform street magic in heavily populated cities. Gain more money and attention, not that she wasn't already a well known magician.

She gripped her small carry bag in her hand as she struggled to get past all the people moving towards Tokyo square. She was stopped a couple times due to a few fans wanting photos and autographs but she didn't mind.

All the brightly coloured electronic build boards surrounded her. The bright coloured screens advertising products in Japanese that she of course could read. She picked her spot, close to the centre of the square and grabbed her deck of cards warming up a little before she began.

"Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Katherine Cho as some of you may already know." She began, catching the attention of people passing by.

"Tonight I am going to show you the impossible."

She said smiling warmly at the crowd as it continued to grow bigger.

"Tonight I will show you that there is no limit to magic." She yelled, walking forward slightly.

She shuffled her deck, twisting and turning the cards at a fast pace. The audience having a hard time keeping up with the pace of her shuffling.

"So some of you may ask, what is magic?." She asked furrowing her eyebrows as she gestured her arms either side of her.

As she place the deck of the floor and grabbed the her back baseball hat off her head. She opened her hand showing she had nothing.

She smirked. Before a card appeared in her hand and she tossed it into her hat in her opposite hand. The crowd gasped having no idea where it came from

But clapped loudly, as card after card appeared in her hand and she tossed them all into her hat.

"Focused deception. But deception meant to entertain." She said quickly after she had performed her trick.

She reached into her hat gathering the cards and carelessly threw her hat behind her earning a laugh from the crowd.

"Now the thing about close up magic is that it has to be precise and adequate." She stated as she picked up her deck of cards from the floor

She pointed to someone in the crowd."You sir come forward."

The man obliged and walked towards her.She shuffled her deck. "What's your name handsome?" Batting her eyelashes.

"Troy" he replied

"Well Troy you don't look like you're from around here?" She questioned while throwing one card from her deck up into the air then expertly catching it behind her back.

She added it back to the decks and looked at Troy who was in awe of what she just did.

"Uh.. I.. Um." He stuttered "What?" He asked attempting to recover from his previous words.

The crowed laughed.

"You know what? Let's just move on to the trick, save you from embarrassment." She smirked giving him a wink.

The crowd laughed even more.Troy blushed.

"Okay Troy, I'm going to flick through this deck and I want you to pick a card any card okay?" He nodded."Did you pick one?"He nodded again

"Okay don't tell me though." She added then winked as she began shuffling the cards.

She flipped them, turned them, spun them you name it.

She grabbed a card off the top of the deck and flipped it around.

"Is this your card?" She asked holding it up for him to see.

"No." He shook his head

"Are you sure? Look in your front pocket then."

He reached into his pocket. His eyes widened when he pulled out the ace of spades.

"Is that your card?" She asked flickering her eyes between him and the card.

"Yes, yes it it." He shook his head smiling while Katherine grinned.

The crowd clapped and cheered, impressed.

"Thank you Troy." Katherine said as he walked back and joined the crowd.

Katherine then produced a match and wrapped her hand gently around the top and blew into it.

As she pulled her hand away the match was lit. The small flame licking up towards the sky.

The crowd clapped with awestruck faces. Katherine thanked them and quickly hushed them.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you all first knew me as the kitsune. The trickster fox. Which was then shortened to the trickster." Katherine called out to the crowd.

"I think it time we let the fox say hello."

Katherine spoke, a devilish smirk forming on her face.

She blew on the flame. But instead of it going out it grew bigger. The crowd watched mouths open in shock.

The fire grew bigger and climbed higher towards the sky. It suddenly started changing its shape. The fire formed into a fox leaping higher into the sky. It's jaw snapped in the air as if it had just caught something then it disappeared. And tiny ambers fell around them. A beautiful sight that lit up the crowd even if it only lasted seconds.

The crowd clapped and whistled for Katherine. They were going crazy.

"And now for my final trick." Katherine called out smiling towards the crowd.

"I shall make myself disappear." She stated. Her arms spread out gesturing to herself.

Though most of the crowd thought it to be impossible she was going to prove them wrong. She was going to push the boundaries of magic and give them a show they'll never forget.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I shall have no props or contraptions that will help like proper stage magicians.  She said as she walked back and forth gesturing with her hands.

"Because frankly I can't afford them." Katherine stated, laughing a bit and shrugging her shoulders.

The crowd laughed along with her. Her joke a simple yet rather funny one they could relate to.She reached into her pocket and pulled out a single cherry blossom flower."All I will require to disappear is this single petal I picked earlier on."

A few of the girls to her left gasped. Katherine heard one of them say "oh my god."

"Thank you." Katherine acknowledged the girl, smiling towards her. "Not my name though but thank you." Katherine threw her a quick wink.

The crowd laughed once again. The girl blushing bright red at the attention she received as the crowd continued to laugh. The magician had humour. And they loved it.

Katherine turned her attention back to her final trick. She placed the petal in both her hands and blew. It flew out of her hands towards the sky. But suddenly there were two petals. Then there were three, then four, then 5 and so on until they formed a small circle. Swishing around her as she spread her arms embracing it. More and more petals came from no where until they couldn't see Katherine anymore.

And just like that the petals stopped breezing through the air and started falling softly and slowly to the ground all around them. As if it were raining. The crowd awestruck at the beautiful sight. Children attempting the catch them before they hit the ground. Until someone yelled out that Katherine was gone.

And she was indeed gone. The space she previously occupied was empty.

An outburst from a woman was suddenly heard from the crowd.

"You guys didn't think I'd really disappear did you!" Katherine yelled out with her hands cupped around her mouth.

The crowd erupted into cheers. Patting her on the back as she walked forward back to the empty space in the centre she had previously been.

"Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Katherine Cho and it has been a pleasure bringing you a bit of magic this evening. Good night Tokyo!"

Katherine called out to the crowd as they continued to cheer and whistle.

People came forward placing money into her bag she placed in front of her.

Katherine thanked the people as she went which by the way was a lot of people. She had gained half of Tokyo squares attention.

A little while after the show, the people around her carried on with the lives as Katherine gathered her things into her bag.

She walked across the Asphalt towards her hat she had thrown behind her during her performance.

She picked it up. She furrowed her eyebrows, confusion bubbling up inside her. In her hat was a card. She pick it up and flipped it over. A tarot card. She guessed quickly.

The tarot card read 'the moon' under an elegantly drawn picture of a small stream in a dark cold forest basking in moonlight that was shining above it. It was beautiful. Katherine flipped over the card. Her eyes widening in realisation as she gasped. On the other side was a picture of the eye.

Something all magicians knew and dreamed to be apart of. Underneath was an address, time and place.

March 29th,4:44 pm,45 East Evan Street,NY, NY

Katherine read over the card. Well I guess I'm going to New York then. She thought as she sighed, placing the card in her bag and began to make her way back home.
