Chapter 13
06:42, 8 September 2016Chapter 13: Parents
Bucky's POV
None of us really see our parents since most of them work for SHEILD, like my own and Tony's, but when they do come home it's a surprise for all of us. Especially today.
It was a regular night, and Steve and I were cuddled asleep in bed when disaster struck.
"JAMES! We're home"
Steve was sound asleep on my chest and I opened one eye and saw the hallway light was on. I shot up from my spot on the bed causing Steve to whine at the loss of contact. My bedroom door opened and my dad turned on the light causing Steve to open his eyes.
"What the hell is going on in here?!" my dad yelled and my heart was beating so fast.
My parents knew I was gay, but they weren't too excited about it.
"Dad it's not what it looks like, we were sleeping!" I exclaimed and Steve just sat there embarrassed because we both had no shirts on, and I was covered in a few hickeys.
"Yeah? And since when does sleeping involve sexual activity!" he said gesturing to the marks on my torso.
My face must be really red at this point, from embarrassment and rage.
"Sir, I can assure you we weren't doing anything-
"Shut up! I want you out!" my dad yelled and I was about to object but my mom gave me the look.
Steve gathered his clothes, and with one last look at me he left.
"We'll talk about this in the morning," my dad scolded and shut the door behind him.
My mom didn't even defend me, she never does.
--------
I was dreading waking up this morning, and I couldn't sleep at all without Steve beside me. I pulled on a pair of sweats and a plain white shirt and went downstairs to see my mom making breakfast and my dad sipping his coffee.
"Morning James," he said and I cringed. They refuse to call me Bucky, and I stopped trying to convince them years ago but no luck. James is my name when their around.
"Morning," I said and my mom set a plate of pancakes in front of me. I thanked her and quietly ate until my dad started to speak.
"Your mother and I talked last night, and we came to the conclusion that I overreacted," he said.
"Dad, I love Steve ok? You can't stop me from seeing h- wait what?"
"I said I overreacted, and I want to invite him over to dinner tonight, how does that sound?" he asked and I looked at him dumbfounded.
"Wow, ok. I'll tell him today, thank you guys," I smiled and he patted me on the back and went off to his office.
"I'm surprised it's Steve Rogers! My son is dating Captain America! The girls at my book club are going to go nuts!" my mom said typing on her phone.
"Mom please, we've been dating for two months," I said and she looked at me shocked.
"Two months! Wow we missed a lot," she said.
"Yeah, time flies," I said and got up from my seat and went upstairs to change for school.
I texted Steve that I would be there in 10 minutes, and he replied back within seconds.
Wow, I thought your dad killed you when I left. Glad to know you're alive
I chuckled and responded.
Yeah, he's actually cool with us dating. I'll talk to you about it when I get there.
I put my phone in my pocket and said bye to my parents and got in my car and drove to Steve's house.
Once I got there, JARVIS opened the door for me and I walked in and saw Steve asleep on the couch clutching his book bag as if life depended on it. I smirked at walked over to him and placed a kiss on his lips. I frowned when he didn't wake up, so I tried something he might smack me for.
"CAPTAIN THERE'S AN ENEMY ATTACK YOU NEED TO WAKE UP RIGHT NOW!" I yelled into his face and shook him with my metal hand.
"Huh?! A war? Where's my shield?" Steve finally woke up and looked around until he saw me standing there clutching my stomach while laughing.
"Bucky? Jeez, what time is it?" he asked.
"7:45, we have to get to school," I said and he got up and hugged me. I hugged him back and took in his scent.
"I couldn't sleep all night without you," he said and I frowned.
"Me either, but on the bright side my dad invited you to dinner at my house tonight! He wants to apologize for kicking you out and wants to get to know you. My mom is already on board, bragging to her book club about us," I said and he laughed.
"Yeah? That sound great," he smiled and gave me a quick kiss before opening the door and getting in my car.
Steve's POV
"Wow, that's a huge step meeting the parents. When I met Peter's aunt we played scrabble," Wade was babbling to the team about how meeting Bucky's parents is a huge deal, which don't get me wrong it is, but it's not like I'm asking for their blessing to marry him!
"Are you nervous?" Nat asked and I rolled my eyes.
"No, its just dinner," I said and Wade gasped.
"Just dinner? Look pretty boy, you need to step your game up if you want to get in their good books. Bring the mom flowers, dress nicely, ask the dad about work, and let them know how much Bucky means to you," Wade said and I looked at him shocked. He's never serious about anything.
"Wade's right, which is something I never thought I would say," I said and he gave me a look.
Wade went through my closet and tried to find something for me to wear, which is hard because I'm not used to wearing anything fancy. My wardrobe consists of jeans, t-shirts, and two pairs of converse.
"Aha!" he exclaimed and handed me black jeans, a blazer I didn't know I owned, and a white t shirt.
I went in the bathroom to change, and when I walked out Clint started laughing.
"That bad huh?"
"You look very handsome," Nat said fixing my coat.
I said bye to Tony and Bruce on my way out and started my 15 minute ride to Bucky's house. My hands were sweaty on the steering wheel, and the flowers I bought were in the passenger seat. I shouldn't be nervous, I'm Captain America!
Once I got to Bucky's, I walked up the steps and rang the doorbell.
"Stevie!" Bucky greeted me and pulled me in for a kiss. I smiled and walked in.
"Hi," I said and Mrs. Barnes approached us.
"Steve, it's nice to finally meet you," she smiled and I handed her the flowers.
"Ma'am," I said and she thanked me and went to put them in water.
"Mr. Rogers, it's a pleasure," Mr. Barnes said shaking my hand.
How embarrassing, the first time he met me I had no shirt on.
We all sat down in the dining room, and Mrs. Barnes made steak and potatoes with salad on the side. I haven't had a home cooked meal in forever, Tony and I usually order in.
"So Steve, tell us about yourself," Mr. Barnes said.
Here we go.
"Well I'm a year older then Bucky, I'm captain of the football team, I'm into art, and I sing a little here and there," I said.
"You sing?" Mrs. Barnes asked in amusement. I blushed and nodded in response.
"What a catch," I heard her whisper to Bucky and he blushed and smiled at me.
"James tells me SHEILD is thinking of recruiting you early, very impressive," Mr. Barnes said.
"Thank you sir,"
"I'm just curious how my son ended up with Captain America," Mrs. Barnes said while Bucky just gave her a 'are you kidding me' look.
"Mom, please don't," Bucky whined and it took a lot for me not to kiss him in front of his parents. He looked adorable.
"Well Mrs. Barnes I have to be honest, it wasn't easy. Bucky and I have been friends for a long time, and I wasn't sure if he felt the same way. It took a lot of convincing from my friends to finally ask him out," I said and saw she was writing down what I was saying. Great, another Scott Lang.
"James is lucky to have you when we're not around, it was a shame we couldn't be there for him when he was hospitalized," Mr. Barnes said and I frowned.
"No need to thank me sir, I would do anything to protect Bucky. He's my world, and I love him," I said and Bucky smiled at me while Mrs. Barnes was grinning.
After dinner the Barnes' accepted me as their second son, and Mrs. Barnes couldn't stop teasing Bucky about how lucky he is to have me.
"Thank you so much for dinner, but I have to go. School night," I said and they laughed and I offered to help clean up.
Bucky walked me to my car, and before he could kiss me goodbye, Mr. Barnes called after me.
"Oh and another thing, next time you mark my son's body make sure it's in a reasonable place!" he yelled and shut the door behind him leaving me and Bucky red in the face.
"Your dad is such a character," I laughed and he shook his head.
"Only if he's comfortable around you, I'm glad they accepted us," he said and I nodded.
"Me too," I closed the space between us and pressed my lips against his lovingly. I grabbed his face with both of my hands and deepened the kiss and I let out a gasp when his tongue entered my mouth.
I pulled away and kissed his nose.
"Goodnight James," I smirked and he hit my arm.
"Punk," he said and I laughed.
"Jerk,"
I gave him one last kiss and got in my car and waved at him while I pulled out his driveway.
