Chapter Eleven
19:13, 10 October 2015a/n: Idek what to write here today. Okay apparently I do since there are now two author notes. This one with a story the bottom one with an explanation.
Ooh! So I have a crush on my friend, who's a senior, and it's horrible because he's not even cute and he's probs going to college and I'll probs never see him again after this year. WHY LIFEEEEE?
SORRY FOR THE LATE UPDATE SO TO MAKE UP FOR IT I ADDED IN A SOKEEFE SCENE THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE
She walked into the store, a belching noise coming from the door signalling her entrance. "Sophie!" Kesler greeted enthusiastically. "Dex didn't tell me you were coming. I'll go ge-"
"Please don't," she interrupted. "He's been avoiding me."
"Why?"
"Because I asked him a question about his and Biana's relationship and he got embarrassed," she explained. "How do you feel about them, anyways?"
He shrugged. "Dex spent a lot of his childhood hating the Vackers, it's kind of funny he's marrying one."
"Marrying?" Her eyes widened.
"Well, not yet but something tells me maybe one day. Juline keeps telling him to pop the question already. They've been together for a few months now, right?"
"I know humans who dated for ten years before even getting engaged, and then waited another year to get married. It's crazy how you guys get married so quickly." She sighed.
He smiled softly. "Just the adults. Teenagers date and grow into adulthood and stay dating then get married a lot too. Just look at Biana's old friend and her husband. . . Uh. . ."
"Maruca and Valin," she told him, a small smile on her face.
"Yeah, them. They dated for. . . How long?"
"A long time," she said, nodding. "I'd rater date for a long time. Like, years long time. I love Keefe and all but I'm not ready for marriage yet."
"You guys have literal eternity ahead of you, I think it's fine if you wait." He nodded towards the door. "Dex is in his lab."
She smiled and walked through Dex's door without knocking. She instantly walked right back out. "I'm sorry!" She shouted through the door, trying not to laugh.
A few seconds later, Dex opened the door. "We never speak of this," he told her as she walked in.
She bit her lip. "Nice boxers," she commented, trying to suppress a laugh.
He rolled his eyes. "Why did you come here, other than to make fun of my amazing underwear and walk in on me changing?"
She rolled her eyes. "That was an accident. You should lock your door while you're changing."
"Say sorry to my boxers."
"No."
He sighed. "Why are you here?"
"Why are you avoiding me?"
"I am not avoiding you!" He defended immediately. "I've just been on a few dates with Biana when you wanted to hang out."
"So you're not avoiding the question on if you and Biana kissed or not."
"I'm avoiding that question, but not you," he answered simply. "How's Keefe?"
"I know you kissed," she said, not answering his question. "She told me. I thought we were best friends, Dex!" She dramatically fell on his couch and let out a loud sigh. "I just... I feel like I don't see you anymore."
"What are you saying?" He rolled his eyes, but a small smile twitched in the corner of his lips.
"I think we need to break up," she stated. "You're too busy with Biana to have time for me."
"Says Miss Up-Keefe's-Butt," he retorted.
Her mouth dropped. "I am not!" She picked up a couch pillow and threw it at him, and he threw it right back.
She used telekinesis and swung it back at him with more force than throwing could. "Ow!" He cried, throwing his arms up to block his face. "No more, no more!"
"Baby."
"Meany."
They were silent for a few minutes before Dex spoke up. "Do you really think I'm not around enough? I thought we were hanging out every Saturday like Fitz and Keefe do. That and double dates and other stuff like that."
She shrugged. "We hang out more than most best friends do. Alden and Grady see each other, what, every few months? They're like brothers or something."
He shrugged in response. "So, while you're here what do you want to do? Let's make it an us thing and no loved ones involved. Just us."
She grinned. "I would love that."
___
She was hiding behind a book, holding it up in front of her face, and Dex was in a ready-to-run position while trying to drop a chemical into his new potion. He slid on his goggles and held up the chemicals away from his face. He placed the drop in and ran before a loud explosion erupted.
They crouched behind his couch in laughter, hugging while Dex screamed, "Yes! We did it!"
The door opened and both Keefe and Biana were there, looking at them in confusion. They looked at the explosion, then looked at the two crouching and laughing at it. Dex grinned at Sophie and said, "I can't believe it worked!"
She grinned. "It's simple human chemistry. Well, actually it's hard but still... pretty cool, right?"
He nodded and a cough sounded from the door. "Crap," Sophie muttered. "I forgot about our mallowmelt night."
Dex shrugged. "Thanks Sophie, I'll see you Saturday."
She nodded and gave him a small side hug. "Bye, Dex!" She walked up to Keefe and took his hand. "Ready?"
He nodded and they left, walking in a comfortable silence. Finally Keefe asked, "What were you and Dex doing?" His voice was laced with curiosity.
"I told him about this cool chemistry project I did when I was junior in high school while I was still a human and we couldn't figure it out until the moment you guys walked in. Were you guys hanging out or something?"
He shook his head. "Nah, I was just asking Biana for an opinion for something while she was heading towards the store so I came with her to the store to ask her and then I went to go ask Dex his opinion and you were there."
"Opinion on what?"
"Opinion on what to do for your birthday," he said with a shrug. "We've been celebrating it forever and we're not stopping now."
She grinned. "That's so sweet!" She lifted their hands up to her lips and kissed his knuckles.
"I love you," he told her. Her eyes widened. "What?" He asked, frowning.
"That's, uh. . . That's the first time you said it," she told him, eyes wide. The grin never left her face and she said, "I love you too."
"I thought we said it before."
"Did we?" She frowned. She traced her memory. "I don't remember."
"I remember."
"You're lying!" She accused playfully. She shoved him and he shove her back. "We both have photographic memories and that means one of us is lying, and it's definitely not me."
He smiled. "Yeah, we haven't said it yet."
She rolled her eyes. "I take back my I love you too."
He grinned, and poked her side. "No you don't."
"Yeah-huh."
"Uh-uh."
"Yeah-huh."
"Uh-uh."
"Yeah-"
He cut her off with a small kiss on the lips. "Come on, we have a mallowmelt night to get to."
