The Initiate
21:29, 17 June 2014Chapter 3
I find myself in a dark alleyway, with a subtle orange light shinning across my face. The floor was wet probably from rain and the cool air ran wild in my hair. Everything seems normal.
Suddenly I hear a scream. A scream that splits me in half, recognisable but disturbing nonetheless. The screams got louder and louder matching my hear rhytm. The louder they got, the more disturbing they became sounding as if the person screaming was being tortured.
"I can't listen to this." I quietly say to myself closing my eyes, running towards the source of the noise. As I came closer the screams began less human and more disturbing.
I got to the source and I could see what was happening, a middle aged man that was built and stocky and dressed in black was holding a skinny male by the throat, that had light brown skin covered in crimson blood around his mouth. I could also see something hanging out from the young males stomach (an intestine?)
"H-help, help!" Cried the young male.
"Carry on you." Spoke the large male. He pulled out a silver knife that glimmered in the street lights.
'C-come on Sonia. You've got to do something.' I thought to myself looking around for a weapon frantically. I stopped looking when I noticed a metal crowbar on the floor, without hesitation I picked it up and ran to the older male. He turned his head before I swung the bar across his head.
The older male fell to the floor like a cold stone. There wasn't any blood, well not that I could see but I know that he won't be getting up soon or anytime. As soon as I realised what I have done I dropped the weapon. I know this is only a simulation but the fact I have committed even capable of committing murder scares me.
I then found myself in a classroom by the looks of it. The tables were long and there are people my age sitting on blue chairs beside the tables.
"Well?" Demanded a male teacher with grey hair and a face that has never seen a smile in its life.
"Well what?" I snapped.
"Where is your homework?" Asked the teacher, his eyes were small and grey and his eyebrows were grey and unkept. There is a sudden feeling of rememberance that a homework has been set. My options are limited. I may as well be honest.
"I-I erm haven't done it." I say.
The classroom, the people, the teacher all vanish along with the feeling of rememberance. My view presents to me a large room with blue walls and lights. There are more people this time they are all smiling and in casual clothes. I feel as if I know these people.
"What did you just say?" Asked a young girl with wavy black hair charging towards another girl. Within seconds she tackled the other girl to the floor and began punching her in the face. With each punch blood splattered across the white floor. I ran towards the fight and pulled the girl off.
"That's enough, surely you didn't need to attack her." I say standing between them both.
The room vanished again. And now I'm back in the apitude room, I looked for Tris who looked pale and her eyebrows were lowered along with the corners of her mouth. Something was wrong. "What's wrong?" I ask running my hand through my dark brown hair like I usually do when I am nervous. "I'm going to end up factionless aren't I ?" I say burrying my head into my lap.
"N-no. Erm I'm just going to get the results. I won't be long." Tris says trying to smile. She walked over to a computer and typed on the keyboard. After a couple of minutes she stood back up. And nervously walked back to me.
"Well? What was my result?" I asked wiping my palms on my lap getting rid of the sweat.
"You got ... Amity... and Candor ... and Dauntless." Tris quietly said. Three factions?
"B-but how? That's impossible. Amity and Dauntless are the excact opposite. The test... the test was to only leave me one result. I'm a freak." I say trying to not cry in front of Tris, I can't make her think I'm weak as well as a freak. Tris put her hand on my shoulder.
"It's not impossible, the test didn't work on you, they call it Divergent." Tris says. I raised my head. Divergents don't exist. "In the first situation you saved that boy using a weapon. That got you Dauntless. In the second one you easily told the truth, that showed your Candor traits. Finally you showed your dislike for fighting, that got you Amity." Tris says breaking the silence.
"But what am I suppose to do tomorrow?" I ask.
"Firstly you can't tell anybody, not even your friends or family, you're dangerous. You don't fit in, you're a threat to the system. Secondly you need to trust yourself, you need to pick a faction where they won't find out about you." Tris says sternly getting me up out of the chair. "I changed your result to Amity, my advice to you is pick there." Tris continues taking me out of the back door. There's so many questions I want to ask, but I don't know which one to ask first. "If anybody asks you got sick and got sent home early. Ok?" Tris says pushing me out before I can answer her. What's is happening to me? What will happen to me?
