Chongyun's POV

Chongyun limped into Wanmin restaurant, the burns on his arms and face burning, his head ringing, waves of yang energy crashing in the pit of his stomach. Collapsing in a seat, he called Xiangling over.

"What would you like to order-- oh, hi Chongyun! ?" Her voice changed from its usual cordial tone to a cringing pitiful voice. "How did it go, then..?"

"How did what go..?" Chongyun muttered confusedly, head resting on the table.

"The-the exorcism? I'm guessing it wasn't too good." Xiangling eyed the burns on his cheek.

"Ah, exorcism? There was no spirit. Just some pyro slimes."

Xiangling made an "ah.." sound. "Do you want some ice for the burns?"

"No thanks, I'll just have the usual."

"Alright then, one bowl of Cold Noodles with Mountain Delicacies, coming right up!" Xiangling rushed away, picking up and balancing multiple plates on her head.

Chongyun closed his eyes.

Just a quick nap.. I deserve it..

"Chongyun? Chongyun, wake up! Your noodles are ready!"

The blue haired male opened his eyes groggily, awakened by the sound of Xiangling's voice. Xiangling placed the plate of cold noodles in front of Chongyun, turning on her heel to leave, when Chongyun spoke up.

"Did you put this piece of paper in my noodles?" Chongyun queried, holding up a small piece of parchment with noodle grease covering it.

"Huh? Of course not. Must be a prank," Xiangling began, "d'you want me to get you a new plate of noodles? I can throw the note out as well if you like."

Chongyun shook his head. "That's alright."

Placing the note next to him, he began reading the familiar writing carefully placed on the parchment.

'Dear Chongyun,You,Me,The stars,Mt. Tianheng's hilichurls.

11PM.

I have Xingqiu.'

Chongyun spat his noodles out, standing up with great force. Pulling the hood of his hoodie over his head, he grabbed his claymore and ran out of the restaurant.

"Chongyun, where are you--" Xiangling yelled after him, however he was too frantic to listen.

Tossing her apron aside, she ran to the note and the half eaten plate of noodles abandoned on the table and read the note.

"Xingqiu? But how..? Has he returned from Fontainé?"

-

Shit, shit shit shit shit. The notewriter has Xingqiu.. what if he's in trouble?! How did the notewriter get Xingqiu in the first place?!

Thoughts scuttled through Chongyun's mind, like the sound of a rattle to the ears as he flung himself onto the peak of Mt. Tianheng.

His frantic breathing calmed down slowly, yang energy still pounding through his body.

Running to the middle of the peak, he glanced around warily for any sign of his friend.

"Boo!"

Chongyun jumped up, clearly startled, as he spun around and took fighting stance, only to look at the face of the person behind him, and collapse to the floor.

"Xingqiu! You're alright.." Chongyun sighed, lying down on the ground, the other joining him.

"Perfectly fine."

"B-but, what about the-" Chongyun sat up suddenly, spinning his head around to face Xingqiu, worry evident in his eyes.

"-note?" Xingqiu finished Chongyun's question. "It was a fake, of course. I planted it there for you as a funny little prank." Xingqiu laughed.

"Xingqiu, not funny!" Chongyun wailed.

"Aha, I'm sorry, Yun Yun. I just didn't know how to face you after.. well, you know."

A few days after the duo had met Zhongli, Xingqiu had sent Chongyun away on another 'fake' lead to find a spirit. While Chongyun was gone, he quickly departed from Liyue to Fontaine to secure a partnership with an ally company of the Feiyun Commerce Guild. Xingqiu had decided to keep Chongyun in the dark as he did not want to upset the exorcist, who surely wouldn't let Xingqiu go alone. Chongyun had only found out about Xingqiu's departure from Xiangling.

"I'm.. why didn't you tell me?" Chongyun whispered.

The stars shone brightly in the magnificent ocean of black, the breathtaking scene almost brighter than the reflection of Xingqiu's eyes in Chongyun's, brimmed to the top with tears threatening to explode.

"You told Xiangling, but not me? I thought.. I thought.. that I was special to you.." Chongyun sobbed, the last part of his sentence a mere whisper, so quiet that Xingqiu didn't hear."Yun Yun, I'm sorry. I didn't want you to... be upset." Xingqiu closed his hand over Chongyun's.

"Upset? You didn't want me to be upset?! I WAS UPSET EITHER WAY!" He sat up, yanking his hand away, giant drops of tears rolling down his face.

"Yun, calm down please! I didn't mean to.." Xingqiu reached out for Chongyun's hand, only to be slapped away.

"SHUT UP! I THOUGHT I WAS IMPORTANT TO YOU.. THAT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL.. BUT.. I WAS WRONG! I FUCKING HATE THIS SO MUCH! WHY DONT YOU JUST.. JUST, GO BACK TO YOUR XIANGLING?! YOU LIKE HER MORE THAN ME, DON'T YOU-" Chongyun screamed, his breaths shallow and unstable once again, standing up, he pointed at Xingqiu, his balance weak and his legs looking as if they could give in at any moment. Chongyun's yang energy increased unstably, his mind stirring wildly and his thoughts a blur.

Xingqiu pinned him to the ground, before he had the chance to say anything, he felt his lips lock with the male on top of him. Chongyun opened his eyes, the tears flowing heavier.

Xingqiu pulled away.

"There there."

"Why would you kiss someone you don't even love?" Chongyun whispered, his voice cracking.

..

"Yun Yun, are you stupid?"

..

No reply.

Chongyun looked up at Xingqiu, his eyes suggesting that he was confused.

..

"I DO love you, you idiot!" Xingqiu shook his shoulders lightly, his voice shaking, as laughter escaped his mouth. "I'm so sorry for leaving you like that, Yun Yun."

"I missed you a lot, you know." Chongyun sat up, hugging the male who was still on top of him.

"I know. I did too. I'll make it up to you, I promise~" Xingqiu hummed.

"How?"

"I'll get you loads of new leads on spirits to exorcise." Xingqiu winked.

Chongyun smiled.

"It's a deal."

--

"How was that lead I gave you before I left? It was.. quite a.. tricky one," Xingqiu picked his words carefully, struggling to hide his all-too-knowing smirk. "Did you manage to solve it?"

The pair descended the mountain hand in hand.

"Ah, the one about the swamp demon grandmother abductor living in Luhua? Still haven't solved it.." Chongyun sighed, staring up occasionally at the night sky adorned with jewels.

Xingqiu's bubbly laughter filled the air once again, the reason unknown to Chongyun.

Instead of questioning it, though, Chongyun relished the newformed peace in his mind, gazing at the taller male's face intently.

end.
