Lombardi trophy

07:51, 31 October 2023

The first half was a tempest, a storm of fierce clashes and tactical maneuvers. Even though Joe performed like a maestro in the pocket, he found himself beset by a relentless defense. Each play was a chess match, a calculated dance of strategy and execution. The scoreboard bore testament to the struggle, a gap that seemed insurmountable, the lead kept by the 49ers was a mountain, daring the Bengals to up their game if they wanted a chance to climb. The Bengals were down by 14, having scored nothing in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Joe struggled to connect with his receptors, Ja'Marr and Andrei seemed to be out of reach every time, Joe's arm was growing tired of not finding anyone open near the end zone. The first touchdown for the Bengals occurred in the second quarter, by Higgins, in a risky play that ended up with Joe twisting his ankle.

Victoria watched the possible injury unfold from her suite, she felt like she couldn't breathe, her heart stopped for a second. She could sit down again when she saw him get up from the floor and slowly walk away, to sit on the sidelines. He wasn't limping and that was good enough for her.

The crowd's fervent cheers and thunderous jeers painted the stadium in a vivid tapestry of emotion. The halftime show, a symphony of lights and sound, offered a brief respite from the intensity, but the tension hung in the air like a charged electric current. The scoreboard: 21-7, the Bengals were still down. As the second half dawned, Joe rallied his team with a fire in his eyes, a determination that burned brighter than ever. They orchestrated a series of plays that cut through the defense like a blade through silk. Ja'Marr leaped and lunged, securing catches that seemed destined for the heavens.

The clock ticked down, every second a heartbeat in this epic saga. The end zone loomed like a distant citadel, a prize that beckoned with the promise of redemption.

28-21

In a crescendo of willpower and skill, Joe orchestrated a drive that defied belief. The final seconds evaporated, leaving only the echo of a whistle and the sight of a football soaring through the uprights. Joe had managed to tie the game at the last minute.

Overtime, a realm of sudden-death determination, beckoned. The coin toss, once again, carried the weight of destiny. The Bengals stepped onto the field, their resolve unyielding, their vision fixed on the goal that loomed ahead, they fought with everything they had in themselves, to secure the glory, to make sure every sacrifice counted.

With a precision that bordered on the divine, Joe  led his team down the field, inch by agonizing inch. His ankle was beginning to beg for attention, sending waves of pain like electric shocks up his leg, but nothing was gonna stop him at this point. Each snap, each pass, each run, was a testament to the collective will of a team unwilling to yield.

And then, in a moment of climactic triumph, the end zone was breached. Joe sent a pass to Andrei, the rookie receptor, the star of the game, he caught it with ease, he stood alone in the middle of the 49ers end zone. They won. The stadium erupted in a cataclysmic eruption of jubilation, a chorus of voices that seemed to shake the very foundations of the earth.

The confetti rained down like a cascade of victory, enveloping the players in a whirlwind of celebration. The Lombardi Trophy, the ultimate symbol of triumph, was hoisted aloft, a beacon of glory that shone against the backdrop of the night.Joe got lifted up from the ground by his teammates, holding his new coveted silver trophy high in the sky. He tasted the moment, he let himself relish on the bliss of the night, feeling the energy of everyone in attendance, the ecstasy was contagious. And in the crowd he spotted the one person in the world he needed to hold in his arms, if he was to say that this was truly the best moment of his existence. Victoria looked amazing in her black Burrow jersey, proudly wearing the name of the man she loved on her back, her light brown hair curled up perfectly, it fell like pieces of a puzzle on her shoulders, framing her beautiful face. She was almost running towards him, fueled by her own feeling of pride. "Joe" she yelled, while she hugged him tight.

"We did it" he managed to get out, unable to stop smiling, still processing the moment.

"You did" Victoria cupped his face in between her hands, staring right into his eyes, as he wrapped his arm around her waist.

Camera flashes surrounding them, moving like a swarm in the field, but in that moment, nothing else mattered. They were the moment.

And on that hallowed field, Joe and his team etched their names into the annals of football legend, a testament to the indomitable spirit of champions.

After the celebration died down at the stadium and the confetti filled the field, covering up its characteristic green color, the team headed to the locker room, to have one last speech before the rowdy celebration party that awaited them, they were in Vegas after all.

"WHODEY" coach Taylor shouted at the top of his lungs, his players shared their excitement with him, yelling back "WHO DEY THINK GONNA BEAT DEM BENGALS" They were floating in a cloud of absolute chaos, the pain from the injuries they suffered on the field was non existent.

Ja'Marr and Joe hugged each other, while they pat their backs, on the brink of tears, remembering where they started, proud of how far they went, knowing they gave the best performance of their careers out there. Joe Burrow was a perfectionist at core, so he being extremely satisfied with his game was something to be remembered.

The after party was celebrated in a casino the team rented specially for this night.

"Maybe I should sit this one out" Victoria smiled at Joe. "You know my history with your game after parties it's not the best" she said as she got into Joe's car.

"Nonsense, the celebration wouldn't mean anything for me if you weren't there" Joe started to drive to the venue, relishing the time with his girlfriend, enjoying the views of the beautiful city.

"Okay then. I won't drink anything though" Victoria was seriously determined to stay out of trouble, she intended for Joe tu fully enjoy his night. He absolutely deserved it.

"Maybe also stay away from Ja'Marr. For good measure" Joe grinned at her. They both chuckled.

"I am beyond proud Joe, truly there aren't any words enough to describe just how much I love you, I admire you so, the fierce determination you always possess, the way you remain so calm in every play. A true star, you are" Victoria placed her hand on top of his, which was resting on the console, while he held the steering wheel with his left hand.

"I have you to thank in part for this win. You've made me a better person, you've helped me grow, and in turn I'm a better athlete" Joe softly kissed her hand.

"All of your talent has been there for you for your entire life Joe, you are the marvel, you and your amazing team are the reason you now have that" Victoria pointed at the bulky silver ring, adorned with the organs B from Bengals, crowned with several tiny diamonds.

Joe wore his ring like a symbol. It summarized so much effort, sacrifice and dedication in his life. Somehow it felt like the end of something. He was now at the mountain top, and somewhere in the back of his mind, a little voice started to bug him, asking him "what now?" This was all that he ever wanted for himself. He tried to brush off the thought, partially succeeding.

They arrived at the party, again surrounded by the familiar camera clicks, walking hand in hand, proud of themselves, growing more comfortable with the attention they received, even if Joe would like to keep his relationship private, he knew there was no point in hiding from the press on his big day, so he cooperated with them and gave them exactly what they wanted from them: clear pictures of their faces, holding hands, he could hear them whisper about what brand was Victoria wearing, they commented about his flashy ring.

"Joe now that you have your ring, will she get hers?" A bold man holding a microphone and a cellphone to their faces asked him. Joe just kept walking, mouth shut, trying his best to ignore their stupid questions. It wasn't as if he didn't want to give her a ring, but that decision belonged only to them.

They kept on walking, ignoring the comments, until they reached the entrance of the casino.

Joe was greeted with screams, chants of his name filled the electric atmosphere party,  he knew he was the man of the moment, the Bengals superstar that had turned the team from the worst on the league to Super Bowl champions "Burrow" red on orange jerseys hung in strategic places on the hall.

"Don't let this go to your head" Victoria whispered to him, half joking.

"I would never" Joe pretended to be offended by her comment. He smiled and holding her hand walked towards his teammates.

"Congratulations Andrei, you played amazing, I'm so happy for all of you" Victoria hugged the man who was now her favorite Bengal, aside from Joe, of course.

"Thank you Marlowe, you really should get some sort of prize for dealing with my man Burrow" He playfully teased her.

"Uh, it's not a big deal, I just get him greasy Chinese food and play some film for him, and he's good to go" Victoria and Andrei had become really good friends. Andrei was the Bengal who better understood Victoria's nerdy spirit and academic pursuits, having attended an Ivy League school himself.

"What I don't get a congratulations hug?" Ja'Marr's voice emerged from the crowd.

"You do too, my friend. Those touchdowns were really something else" Victoria leaned in to hug him. Their relationship was still a little tense, both of them not knowing exactly where they stood. He had helped Victoria the night of her incident, and was mainly the reason for her getting out intact from the situation, on the other hand, she struggled to let go of her grudge. He had jugged her pretty harshly when he first met her.

"Thanks Victoria. Really, you have made Joe so happy it's almost obnoxious" Ja'Marr hugged her back.

"He's made me incredibly happy too. I do get how we can get obnoxious, it's just how stupidly in love we are"

"I'm glad he found you. I never properly apologized for being an absolute jerk to you. I'm sorry, it was never my place to have a say on your relationship with him" Ja'Marr still felt guilty about the way he talked to her.

"It's okay. You did save my life. We're even, our slates are clean, how does that sound?" She smiled.

"Sounds perfect" Ja'Marr smiled back at her. Joe reached for her hand in the middle of the room.

"Sorry man I'm gonna steal her" Joe grinned at his friend, as he slowly pulled her into his arms.

"That's fine. Enjoy your night, I'll see you back home" Ja'Marr turned around to keep on with the party.

"What were you guys talking about?" Joe asked her, as he buried his head in her neck.

"He said you were obnoxious and I agreed" Victoria bantered him.

"You've been friends for two seconds and you are already trash talking me. That's rough even for you Marlowe"

Victoria smiled. She reached into her purse for a tiny box covered in red velvet, she turned around to face Joe as she opened it for him.

"Wait you're not gonna propose or anything like that are you?" Joe smiled at her.

"Could you be serious for a second? I'm trying to do something romantic here" Joe just nodded.

Victoria pulled out a gold chain connected by round links, his initials embedded in it, and the date:

JB 11/02/2024

Joe admired the piece of jewelry in his girlfriend's hands, beyond touched by her thoughtfulness. It was a fine piece, he imagined how it would look, sitting on his neck.

"You really are something else, Marlowe" Joe kissed her forehead, while cupping her head.

"I love you. And now we can match" Victoria held her gold necklace gifted by him up, lifting it from her neck.

"You always wear it" Joe smiled at her, isolated from the rest of the world, the crowd at the party seemed to dim.

"So I can carry you with me" She smiled back. "And now you have a piece of me you can hold next to your chest"

"Wait why does it say November second?" Joe asked confused as he focused his eye on the date embedded on the necklace.

"Oh shit. I forgot you guys invert the dates" Victoria remarked, half smiling.

"What do you mean we invert it? It's the normal way?" Joe was even more confused.

"See, I'm not even gonna go there with you. It's February 11th, just put the thing on please" Victoria pleaded.

Joe never took the necklace off, he wore it proudly for the rest of the night, the rest of the trip to Vegas and he would gladly wear it the rest of his life.

Back in Cincinnati, they had unfinished business. Victoria made it her first priority to finish packing up her stuff from her former house, so she wouldn't have to wear Joe's underwear (as comfortable as it was) when she ran out of undies at his place. Their place. She would still need to get used to that.

Joe insisted on coming with her, uneasy about the thought of her being alone on her house. When they unlocked the door, they noticed a little white envelope laying on the floor. It had nothing written on it.

Just a message written on the inside, in crooked hand writing:

Do you know what your father did?

Well hello there. The Bengals are playing really good today, let's just hope they can secure the win. Thanks for reading, as usual.
