Chapter 27- We want answers
00:07, 15 April 2019- Clementine's POV
I walked up to the rest of the kids, who surrounded Mitch's body. Although the guy was... a jerk, he didn't deserve this. No one did. "Abel's tied up in the basement. He passed out from the pain. AJ wanted to stay down there, so..." Louis spoke from behind, catching me by slight surprise. "I wanted to make him talk, but... I've never been good at intimidating people." He continued, looking sadly at the body which lay covered by a blanket. "Thanks. I'll get to it in a minute." I replied to him, who now stood in front of me. "I'll take care of this." He offered. I looked down in surprise as my hand was grabbed and lifted, a warm feeling taking over my senses for a moment. Louis looked at me smiling, holding my hand in his gently. I caught quite the feelings for him. Smiling reassuringly, I couldn't help but smile back to him. The worry faded away a moment as I remembered the night before. The project, the declaration, the kiss.
Walking away, I made her way to the basement to see AJ sitting in a chair, and Abel tied down to an old school desk. I pet Rosie's head on the way in, giving temporary relief from the tension change when I entered the basement of the school. "He's still unconscious." AJ growled, the knife he made gripped tightly in his hands. "Well, let's wake him up." I grabbed a bucket of water, splashing it on Abel, drenching him in the cold water. He coughed and groaned as the pain came back and he awoke more. "Well that's no way to wake an old man up from his afternoon nap. I've had a girl tie me up before, but... It was different than this, if you get my meaning." He joked, but there was no laughing in reply. "Where are my people?" I raised my voice in an intimidating tone. "Like I'd tell you. We made the mistake of underestimating you a**holes once, we won't do it again!" He yelled back. The urge to hit him, interrogate him with force came over me. But the thought scared me, and I knew it was wrong. So I pushed it back. "I have ways of making you talk. You're pretty battered already, so I want to go easy on you. If you don't tell us, I'll make you tell us. Now, where are my people?!" I repeated, now yelling at him. "First time interrogating someone, isn't it? Yeah, I can tell. Tell you what, if you light me a cig, I'll help." He coaxed, giving an abnormal wheeze. I raised an eyebrow in question, but decided to go along with his little game.
Reaching in his pocket, I grabbed the box of hand rolled cigarettes along with the box of matches. Pulling one out, I read it, as it contained words. The words were... Confusing. It said "Leviticus". A page from the bible, I concluded. I lit the cigarette, and leaned in as to give it to him. However I stopped, burning it out on the desk with a smirk. "Little b*tch." He growled at me, clearly angered. That was the point though. "Tell me where they are before I light another and burn you with it!" I snapped, yelling in his face. As Abel opened his mouth to respond, he started coughing uncontrollably, and threw up blood onto the desk. I jumped back in surprise as some spilt onto the floor, feeling a bit nauseous. "Sh*t." He whispered upon seeing it. "You... Must've done some real damage for me to bleed internally...." He started, coughing and wheezing in between words. "If I help you, please... Don't let me turn." For once, the man seemed sincere. "In my boot." He informed, out of breath and in too much pain to say more. I reached down, grabbing a piece of paper from inside and unfolded it. "That's the boat they're on. Where your friends are. Just... Please don't let me turn." He begged again, scared of what would happen if he were to turn into a walker. "Alright. But if you're lying..." I shook my head, pulling my knife out of its holster. "I'm not." He looked to me desperately. "AJ..." I started, remembering his silent presence. "What?" He asked. "Go wait outside or... Find Louis or something." I shooed him off. After the recent events, I didn't want him to see more death. "Why?" His tone changed, and he sat upright. "Because. I'll handle this." Warning, I made sure he left before I continued. "What'd you make him leave for? It's not like you're besting me with a crowbar or something. Besides, the next generation needs to be stronger." The words echoed in my head, making my stomach churn with distaste. The exact words Carver had said. The exact think Kenny had done to him. Without further hesitation, I stabbed the knife into his head, ending his life and fulfilling his wish. I pulled it out, not wanting to look at the blood. I met up with the rest of the group, telling them of this boat where the rest supposedly were. Without much hesitation, Louis, Willy, AJ and I all set out to find the boat.
We walked along on the dirt road, Willy in the back with a bow and arrow drawn, and Louis, AJ and I taking the lead. I held the map Abel had given us, looking around for any obvious bodies of water, but none were found. "Once we find the boat, we'll look for a way to sneak on board." I said, folding up the map. We were supposedly on the right track to it, but it still wasn't in sight. "Yeah, if Tenn doesn't f*ck it up this time." Willy commented in anger. We kept walking, but I could see AJ's expression change from exhaustion to frustration. "It wasn't Tenn's fault." He defended, stopping to face the slightly older boy behind him. "Yes it was! Mitch died because he-" they argued as Willy was cut off by AJ. "Say one more thing about Tenn. I dare you." He threatened, pointing a finger and glaring daggers at him. I walked over, ready to have to break up the fight, until I heard Louis from a few feet away. "Guys, there it is." He looked on in the distance as I suddenly felt slightly sick. We're actually doing this.
Woah, sorry this took so long to write. I'll admit, it's kinda hard to get motivation now that season 4 has ended. But I'm going to keep doing this. Just... Sorry if it takes longer than it should. Well for whoever still cares to read, thank you for reading and I hope you still like the story. I'll try to include a bit more romance soon, promise <3
