~Chapter Seven~

After school your mom made you take cookie out for a walk. You hold on cookie's leash and walk to through the forest path near your house. You put your earphones in your ear and hit shuffle on your MP3 player. As your walking you heard a loud roar somewhere.

You stop walking and take out your earphones to see if you could hear it again. Another roar came from the forest and you followed the sound. Was it a bear? It couldn't be a deer. And It didn't sound like a bird. You found tracks on the forest floor. It seemed to have big claws and big feet.

You let cookie smell the tracks then lead you into the direction of where it's from. The tracks stopped behind a bush and you hid behind it. You peeked from behind the bush and saw medium sized wings. You gasped when you saw it was a baby dragon! You got out of the bushes and stood a couple feet from it. It roared and slowly backed away from you. It was a black dragon with red features on it and it was scared.

You looked around the forest hoping you could catch a glimpse of its parents but no other dragon could be found. You tied cookie's leash around a tree and slowly walked over to the dragon. It whimpered and backed up against a tree. You shushed it and put your hands out in front of you. "It's okay. I'm friendly." You tell it. You could see the fear in its eyes, it must have been through a lot. The dragon stopped whimpering and let you pet him. You slowly moved your hand back and forth on its head, making the dragon relax.

"Hey, I'm Chloe. What's your name little fella?!" You ask him. He looks up at the sky and you curiously look up too. You saw big fluffy white clouds. "Your name is sky?" You ask him and he shakes his head no. "Cloud?" Another no came from him. You looked up at the clouds again and noticed the type of cloud it was.

"Nimbus?" You asked him and he shook his head yes. You smiled, "Nimbus...what a great name! So, where's your parents? Or family?" You ask him. The dragon looks down in sadness. You look around the area again and saw big eggshells by some rocks.

You frowned, "Your parents weren't here...weren't they." Nimbus nodded yes sadly. You smiled at him. "Hey, how about I take care of you!" You tell him. Nimbus looks up at you and smiles widely. This was going to be a tough taking care of a dog, a horse and now a dragon. But this was a task you were willing to try.

You just couldn't leave this helpless dragon alone. You wanted to help him. You also decided not to tell anyone about this taking care of a dragon thing. You were worried if you told someone they might take nimbus away from you or make you leave him alone.

You were even deciding whether or not to tell Cole since he has a dragon. You decided not to as he might not approve of you having a creature, so you kept it a secret from that day. You kept nimble in the little shed in your backyard. You weren't sure the first step on taking care of a dragon but you figured it shouldn't be that hard. You filled the shed with some branches and lots of leaves to make it a little more comfortable for nimbus. You then wondered about the next part, what do dragons even eat?

Dogs eat dog food, horses eat grass and grains but what about dragons? You thought about all the possible food chains and what animals eat. You finally decided to just feed it large amounts of the food that you eat. So far you manage to spend a week taking care of 3 animals and keeping nimbus a secret.

You knew you just have to be careful if someone wanted to go to your backyard. Today, you were on the swings in your backyard reading a book when you heard the gate open. You looked up from your book and panicked when you saw Cole walking toward you.

"Hey Chloe!" He says with a smile. You drop your book and get up from the swings. "Cole! Uh um what are you doing here?!" You ask nervously. "Seeing my girlfriend of course! You weren't in the house so I figured you were out here." He said. You frantically looked from the shed to Cole trying to figure out what to do.

"Um hey! How about we head inside! I think it might rain soon!" You say as you begin to push him out of the backyard. "The sky is clear and its 83 degrees today there's no way it's going to rain." He states. "Well let's just go inside." You say.

He stops himself from being pushed and looks at you. "Chloe, what's wrong with your backyard? Ever since I got back here you've been wanting to go inside." Cole says but before you could come up with an excuse you two heard a sneeze. "What was that?" He asks you. You wipe your nose and sniff. "Whew! I must be getting spring fever! Haha I seriously need to take my meds." You say. "That didn't sound like it's from you." Cole said. Just then you two heard a roar and it was coming from the shed. Cole looked at the shed curiously.

"So, whatcha got in there?" He says folding his arms at you. "Uh nothing! N-nothing at all! It's probably just some squirrel or something!" "That's funny. A squirrel doesn't roar!! Look I'm checking it out." He says as he walks towards the shed. You block his way, "Wait! You can't go in there! Uh dad doesn't want guests going in his shed." You say. "Well something or someone is in there and I'm guessing their a guest so I'm pretty sure your dad would be okay with me checking it out." He says as he walks past you.

He was at the door of the shed about to open it. You leaned against the door blocking his way again. "Wait! Cole!" You say and he furrows his eyebrows. "What now!?" He asks getting annoyed. "Uh, this!" You say then connect your lips to his hoping he'd kiss you back. You felt Cole's lips melt into the kiss as he puts his hands on your waist. As you two kiss you felt one of his hands let go of your waist and reach for the door knob behind you! He breaks from the kiss and opens the door, making you fall on the grass.

"Nice try sweetheart. But your going to need more then a kiss to hide a dragon from me!!" He says folding his arms. You get up and wipe some grass stains off your pants. "Yeah, I was hoping." You admit. "Chloe! Why do you have a freaking dragon in your shed!?" He asks you.

"Okay look, I was taking my dog out for a walk in the forest and we heard a roar and saw some tracks! So we found this baby dragon all alone in the forest! His parents weren't there for his hatching! He was alone! And defenseless! So I had to take him in! He needed someone!" You explain.

"Chloe! You don't even know the first thing about taking care of a dragon!" "I know! But a girl can learn right?!" "Chloe, you can't keep him!" "Why Cole! Give me five reasons why!" "Alright you want five reasons here they are! One! You don't even know how to take care of a dragon, two! These things grow really big and fast! He is not staying in your shed forever so good luck finding a new place for him! Three! This thing could be dangerous when he gets big! Four! You might get hurt taking care of him! What if this guy has powers!! And five! What if his real parents find him here! You'd be in big trouble then now wouldn't you!!"

"Cole this is ridiculous!! You know this is why I didn't want to tell you!! You'd be like this!" "Oh so it's my fault for being overprotective of you!? So it's totally okay for you to get hurt!!" "Cole! You have a dragon!!! I'm pretty sure you fly him all the time!!" "My dragon is different!! I control him!! Your dragon has a mind of its own!!"

"Well if you don't think that I can handle taking care of a dragon why don't you just leave!!" "Fine! You know what I will! But don't come crawling back to me when he starts burning down your house!!!" Cole yells then he storms out of your backyard.

Your very upset. This was exactly why you didn't want to tell Cole. Your first fight with him. It felt terrible. How could he just do that to you! You knew Cole had a dragon! So why wouldn't he support you!? Just because you weren't an elemental master doesn't mean you can't take care of a big creature with wings.

You sat down on the grass and buried your head in your knees. You felt something nuzzle your back and you looked next to you and saw nimbus. You put your arm around him and gave a small smile. "You're not a monster to me." You tell him.

All day you haven't heard back from Cole. You were starting to think you two were over. As you were sitting in your room finishing up some homework you got a call from Cole. You were deciding whether or not to pick up but you did anyways. "Hello?" You answered. "Hey, Chloe. Look I-i just wanted to say I'm sorry. I don't know what happened back there but I'm sorry. I guess I just didn't want you to get hurt. And I should know better, I had a dragon once. A real dragon, Like yours. At first I had a great fear of dragons but after I started bonding with my dragon, he was my best friend. I think you should keep your dragon. And better yet, I'll help you. I'll show you the ropes and tricks if you want. So, what do you say?" Cole says

You lean back in your chair and smile. "I forgive you Cole, and yeah, I'd love it if you helped me take care of him." "That's great! So uh, what's his name?" "Nimbus. What was yours?" "Rocky." "Cool." "Hey, after school tomorrow bring nimbus with you to the monastery, I think I have a surprise for you that you'll enjoy." He says "Yeah sure! I'll be there around 4 is that good?" "Yeah! That's fine. So, see you then?" "Yeah, see you." You say. You two then exchanged goodnights and goodbyes then hung up.

The next day after school you ran inside your house and put your bag on the couch. You then ran to the backyard and put a large leash on nimbus then try to fit him in your car. He successfully fit and you were then on your way to the monastery. When you got there you parked your car then helped nimbus get out.

You rang the doorbell and Cole opened up with a smile. You hugged him and pecked him on he lips. "So where's this surprise?!" You ask with a wide smile. "Follow me!" He says as he leads you to the back of the monastery. You guys pass by a outdoor training course and some fielding before coming across a big stable.

You gasp in surprise. "Cole! This is great! Nimbus could stay here!" You say. "Exactly! The guys, Nya and I all helped build this last night. It's got everything we need to properly take care of a dragon!" He says, you smiled widely and give Cole a big hug. "Thank you." You say. "No problem!" Nimbus ran inside the stable and looked around with a happy expression. You two watch as he runs around. This was quite a dragon's tale.
