The Super Nanny of the Apocalypse

▬ First Person- Electra’s P.O.V ▬

     “Found you!”

I span around on the spot at the sight of him and began to sprint as fast as my legs could take me in the opposite direction.

     “Get her Shane!”

I yelped as suddenly Shane sprang out of the bushes and began to run towards me also. I turned again and began to run sideways and succeeded in running away from one of the boys, but swiftly Shane’s arms wrapped around my waist holding me back.

“That’s cheating, that’s cheating!” I yelped struggling to get out of my brothers firm grasp. “Let me go! Shane!” I demanded still attempting to escape.

     “Tickle her Grimes!”

I opened my mouth to attempt to say something to stop him but I was cut off by my own involuntary laughter as he began to tickle me furiously, me flinching at every touch. Laughing so hard that the tears began to fall from my eyes and roll down my cheeks.

     “Shane! Ellie! Rick!”

Almost instantly my mother appeared, gliding towards us with such grace I could only aspire to have, zigzagging through the bushes that were scattered orderly in my backyard. I could practically feel Rick jump back away from me whereas Shane just stood where he was, he wasn’t going to let me go any soon.

“Hey, whatcha still doing out here kids?” Mom questioned crouching down to inspect Shane’s face who released his grip on me. “It’s dark and freezing….and you’re all filthy…” she stated before straightening up. My mismatched, Shane’s brown and Rick’s dazzling blue eyes instantly found each other’s.

     “It was Shane’s-”

     “Shane did I-”

     “Ellie started it-”

“Your dad don’t like you out in the forest by yourselves in the daylight, never mind at dark,” Mom said sternly with her hands on her hips.

     “Sorry Auntie Claire,”

     “Sorry Mom,”

     “I’m sorry Mom,”

“You best be,” she nodded. “Now get indoors, your suppers gon’ get cold,” she said as a small smile spread on her face. “What ya daddy don’t know can’t hurt him,” she winked.

     “Electra. Electra.”

I looked up to meet my mom’s amber eyes, smiling up at her as she ruffled my hair. “Come on you,” she said taking my hand in hers as she led me through our backyard into the house.

     “ELECTRA!”

Growling, my eyes gradually fluttered open to look at a deep, clear, dazzling shade of blue. Rubbing my eyes, I cleared my vision to find that I was looking into the young twelve year old boy- who was shaking me impatiently to wake me up- eyes.

“Mornin’,” I pushed myself to sit up straight, holding the covers tightly around me seeking their comfort as Carl stopped and stood up. “What’s up?”

“My mom said that I could go down to the lake with you and Stacie today!” he said excitedly with a grin on his face. I smiled along with him despite being surprised that Lori would allow Carl into my care. After the month I had known her for she never seemed to trust me, not that she despised me or disliked me, it was the fact that we weren’t much more than acquaintances.

Though in this short time I had already made friendships with many of the camp. Glenn was sweet and thoughtful; he was quite fond of Stacie too bringing me loads of vitamins to give to her. T-Dog was quiet but reliable. Thea was still mourning Aaron but I think she considered me to be her closest friend seeing as I was the only part of Aaron she had left- the girl who he saved. Andrea was a fierce friend to me, she would be who I considered to be my closest friends. Dale was also very wise and very kind. And, as sad as it sounds, I adored those kids like they were my own.

I was on good terms with everyone on a whole, with the exception of Merle who I despised and Daryl who had blackmailed me into being his hunting partner. Believe me I wasn’t his number one fan, having to keep my anger at him hidden was annoying. God knows what else would he blackmail me with later.

“You are going to the lake today….right?”

“Sure thing little buddy,” I smiled back at him. “Just give me a minute to wake up and get dressed, right man?” she raised an eyebrow.

     “Yeah, sure,”

“Now, go thank your momma,” I ordered. “Okay?” I suggested causing him to nod and smile. “I’ll see ya in fifteen,” I called as he unzipped my tent and wandered out.

▬ Third Person- No one’s P.O.V ▬

“Good Mornin’ Electra,” The instant Electra was out of her tent she came face to face with Carol who greeted her politely.

“Mornin’ Carol,” Electra yawned. “Anything I can do for you?” Electra asked before touching her toes, doing her morning stretches to stay flexible.

“Yes actually,” Carol smiled. “I heard you were taking young Carl and Stacie down to the lake and was wondering whether you could take Sophia to?” she asked nicely. “It’s just that she’s become so close to those kids and I want her to have fun, you know?”

     “Sure thing,”

“Thank God,” Carol let out a sigh of relief. “She was going on about it all morning seeing as you promised to take Stacie, it would mean the world to her,” she explained. “I know it’s a lot to ask, I mean taking care of one kid in a time like this is hectic never mind three, so thank you. I really appreciate it,” Carol smiled.

“No problem,” Electra nodded back. Turning to go in the direction of the camp fires she came face to face with Morales who was about to open his mouth. “Yes, I will take Louis and Eliza down to the lake,” she stated causing him to exhale. “It’s cool, I’m bringing Stacie, Sophia and Carl anyways, what harm can two more do?” Electra said coolly causing Morales to thank her gratefully before speeding off. Sighing, Electra headed off towards the camp fires, scooping up a handful of berries (which she had found whilst out hunting) out of a tin.

“Didn’t know you were setting up a babysitting service,” a familiar southern voice drawled.

“Didn’t know I was either to be honest with you Daryl,” Electra stated standing up straight and turning around to see him eating breakfast sitting in one of the camp chairs. “Mornin’”

“Mornin’ Miss Match,” he returned. “You ought to get paid for all the babysitting you do. I’m pretty sure your better with Carl, Sophia and Stacy then all their parents are put together. You sure spend more time looking after them then they do,”

“Hey that’s unfair,” Electra argued. “Lori, Carol and Ed lead busy lives, they can’t look after their kids twenty four seven,” Electra defended them.

“Yeah, Lori’s too busy having sex with your brother, Ed’s to busy beating Carol and Carol’s to busy being beaten,” Daryl mumbled low under his breath so that Electra couldn’t hear him.

“Wanna come babysit with me?” Electra asked randomly causing Daryl to scoff. “Oh come on, it’ll be fun and I can’t take after five kids by myself,”

     “I’ll pass thanks,”

“Oh come on, you need to try to get acceptance from th-”

“Acceptance?” Daryl stood straight up. “You think I’d want to be accepted into this group of pussy's?” he questioned me with another scoff.

“Fine,” Electra snapped at him instantly. “I’m sorry for asking,” Electra apologized turning on her heel and walking away from him.

     “Woah,”

“I know right,” Electra looked down at the equally dirty-faced, dirty blonde haired, blue eyes Sophia who was staring out at the lake.

“It’s beautiful,” Sophia commented still in awe of the hidden lake which Electra had discovered. Her eyes, as clear as the waters, twinkled at Electra.

“I’ll race you!” Carl hollered speeding over to the bank of the lake. Eliza, Louis and Stacie sprinting as fast as she could after him.

“Go on,” Electra urged pushing Sophia lightly towards the lake, gesturing for her to go and join Carl, Stacie, Eliza and Louis. “What’s wrong?” Electra asked out of concern when Sophia didn’t move forward.

“I can’t,” Sophia said, pulling Electra down by the hand so that she was at her own level. “I can’t swim,” she admitted in a mere whisper in Electra’s ear.

“Ah, that’s alright,” Electra stated unbuckling her belt and pulling off her jeans leaving her in her panties and a plain dark blue t-shirt. “The only deep or bit where you would have to swim in is directly in the middle which is really deep, I can barely stand up in it. You can walk everything else, keep to the edges and you’ll be fine,” she explained taking her hand. “And I’m here, I won’t let anything happen to you,” she assured her squeezing her hand in reassurance. “Alright?” she smiled down at her, Sophia nodded causing Electra to lead her over to the edge of the water. Electra stepped forwards enjoying the feeling of the water pooling around her ankles and the rough stones underneath. “How does that feel? Good yeah?” Sophia nodded. Eliza and Louis speeded over to talk to Sophia. Electra, taking the hint walked further into the middle of the bank, paddling towards Stacie and Carl.

“Carl thinks he can hold his breath longer than me,” Stacie said accusingly, pointing at Carl who was currently paddling around the pair of them as if her were a shark circling them.

“Pffft,” Carl continued to swim with his head above the water. “I know I can,” he scoffed before resulting to just paddling on the spot in order to keep his head above the water. “Probably could beat you too, to be honest….” Carl commented.

“Ohhhh?” Electra raised an eyebrow at Carl’s playful arrogance. “Is that right now?” she asked Carl causing him to swim over to the pair and dry his hair of doggy style splashing them both.

     “Ya-huh,”

“Oh, it is on,” Electra challenged before pinching her nose. “On the count of three,” Stacie and Carl pinched their noses as well. “One,” she looked at Stacie. “Two,” she looked at Carl. “Threeee,” she said. “Go! Go! Go!” she exclaimed causing her and the kids to dunk their heads under the water.
