...Epilogue – The House That Love Built

Three years later…

The house was no longer quiet.

It laughed now.

With windchimes Orm made from broken paintbrushes. With music drifting from open windows. With the sound of footsteps — Ling’s wheelchair only used when needed now, her rehabilitation slow but steady.

The rooftop garden had become a second living room. Lavender overflowed its pots. Sunflowers climbed the railing. There were two easels now — one for Orm, one for Ling, who had finally begun to paint in secret, her work quiet, clean, but full of feeling.

And in the center of it all: a little girl, four years old, curly-haired, loud, and covered in finger paint.

“Mommy! Mama Ling!” she shouted, waving her hands, “I made a sun that smiles!”

Orm looked up from the picnic blanket, laughing. “That’s your fifth smiling sun today. Your canvas is going to start flirting with the sky.”

Ling smirked from the shade, sipping her tea. “She gets it from you.”

“Obviously,” Orm said proudly. Then softer, “You okay?”

Ling looked around the garden — the light, the laughter, the life. And then at Orm, still paint-stained, still her chaos and her calm.

“I’m more than okay,” she said.

She reached over, squeezed Orm’s hand, and added, “I didn’t just survive. I healed.”

Orm leaned in and kissed her, paint and all.

And the house — the house that once held only silence — smiled with them.
