Chapter 2. Bizarre Emotions

When I reached home, I took out my diary. It was a thick book with leathered straps and the cover was a shade of scarlet and white. I wrote down what happened today, still puzzled from that incident. I wonder how I'm going to meet her tomorrow. Oh and I forgot to mention, Mr. Diluc placed us together just so that I could keep watch, but obviously I'm also too focused on studying law to even take a glance at Hu Tao.

The next day, I walked into class. I went over to my seat and saw Hu Tao already seated at her own seat. Strange. I sat down, trying not to look at her, and took out my notebook. All of a sudden, Chongyun, one of our classmates, stood up and turned. He announced,"Yo! I have come to announce that Xingqiu and I are dating now. WE'RE GAY!"

The class at once broke into an applause and cheered. I could see Xingqiu, who was seated at the front row right nearest to the door, bury his face into his hands. Every bit of his skin that wasn't covered went red. Poor Xingqiu; this must be really embarrassing for him. 

As the class continued whooping and cheering, Hu Tao shoved a note under my table. I looked down and picked the note, reading it:

I'm sorry for yesterday and I promise it won't happen ever again. -Hu Tao

She drew a drawing of a little ghost with one butterfly on its top left and another one at its bottom right. To be honest, I kind of find the ghost cute. Hu Tao really is a good artist. I wrote back:

It's fine. Just make sure you mean what you said. -Yanfei

Should I draw something next to my name too? I figured that if Hu Tao drew something, I'd do the same.

I passed the note back to Hu Tao, she read it and stared down at a drawing of a stack of books and a quill in an ink bottle next to it. She giggled softly. Uh-oh... this feeling again - I can feel my heart racing, my face heating up again. Am I admiring her? Because of one giggle? No no, it can't be... right? I hid my face in my textbook so that Hu Tao wouldn't see my face, which was now redder than Xingqiu's.

Another day of school ended. Just as I passed the school gates I heard a voice behind me calling my name.

"Yanfei!! Yaaaaannnfeeeeeeiiiii!!!"

I turned my head to see Hu Tao rushing towards me, her left hand keeping her hat on her head. People turned and watched her as she halted before me, panting like a dog. The students around started to watch us. How embarrassing! Who would run through a crowd of high school students screaming another's name after school? Oh, right: Hu Tao.

I stared as she looked up, her face red from sweating.

"Shall we walk home together?" she said with a wide grin. Murmurs arose from the crowd. I felt my heart thump against my chest. I stared at her as I listened to some of the murmurs,"The funeral director wants to hang out with a legal expertise? That's ridiculous, even all the undertakers can't stand her..." I couldn't help but listen.

"Yanfei?" Hu Tao waved a hand in front of my face, but I was too busy listening to the murmurs which grew louder and louder, "Right? I'd rather jump off from the tip of Mt. Tianheng!" I couldn't stand it, I have to get out of here somehow. I don't want them thinking weird about me...

"Really? I'd rather get killed by a Thunderhelm Lawachurl!..."

"Err... no, sorry, I still have errands to run..." I lied and quickly walked off, leaving Hu Tao standing there all alone in front of the huge murmuring crowd. Why did I do that? It must be so embarrassing for her! I feel so bad. I figured to call Hu Tao back but when I turned, I saw her walking away. I couldn't see the look on her face because she was looking down, and her long brown hair was covering her face. I sighed as she broke into a run and disappeared behind the shops next to the school. Now I felt extremely bad. But at the same time I wondered, why would she walk up to me and ask me to walk home with after after we kissed? Is her courage that strong? I shook my thoughts out of my head and decided not to about at of this, and just head home. 

SORRY THIS CHAPTER WAS SO SHORT, I COULDN'T REALLY THINK MUCH AS MY MIND WAS CLOUDED WITH THOUGHTS OF HOW THIS STORY WILL CONTINUE AND STUFF LIKE THAT, BUT I PROMISE I WILL TRY MY BEST TO ACCOMPLISH THIS!
