Walking home

Tsukishima: satisfied?
Yachi: Yep, Satisfied!
Tsukishima: Aro...(I'm not sure about this one, it's either ara? Or a way to say okay)
-
During their second year, Tsukishima and Yachi had started walking together by habit. Since they live closest to each other, even taking the same bus, they were bound to walk together.
Whether I'd be late at night or early in the afternoon, Tsukishima and Yachi would wait for each other before starting to heading home. Most times Yamaguchi would be there but lately, he has been busy with his class project, so It was just Tsukishima and Yachi.
"So then Kiri-chan, the new girl, said that she liked Kageyama-kun! could you believe that? It's so cute! She is taller than him but I think they'd be a cute couple!" Yachi rambled on to Tsukishima, it was a normal conversation for them. Yachi always told him things that happened around the school, he acts like he didn't seem to pay attention, but he has kept track of Yachi's friends' love life to his dismay. He just likes listening to the girl talking.
"Oh! But then Rya-chan said that SHE liked Kageyama-kun first! but they're the best of friends, so I don't know what will happen to them. I tried talking to them but they seem to be ignoring each other." Yachi turned to look at him, her eyes shimmering. Tsukishima nodded. She talked more about her friend cliques, he was quite proud of her for having many friends, but he wondered how many of them were actually her true friends. He didn't care for them, but if they do bully her or hurt her, then he'll definitely get involved.
"What about your best friend? Does she still like Yamaguchi?" Tsukishima asked, Yachi grinned and nodded excitedly.
"They're in the same class and they stayed back today! I hope they get closer!" They turned to a corner and finally the bus stop could be seen.
"So anyways, About the Kageyama problem. Many of my other friends in Kageyama's class seems to all mutually agree to like him, So they are more chill than that... But then again maybe it's because no one can talk to him, the only person Kageyama talks to is Hinata." Yachi chuckled, Tsukishima nodded. He looked around and remembered a cafe shop that sells excellent Strawberry cakes was near here.
"Ne, Yachi-san. Wanna go to that cafe? It has strawberry shortcake," Tsukishima gripped the shorter head to stop her from walking. She told him countless times not to do that because it makes her feel short, but being the tease Tsukishima is, he did it more often. Yachi pouted but nodded. Tsukishima grinned and ruffled her hair before walking to the staircase up the hill.
"It's no fair! you, Kiri-chan, And basically everyone is taller than me. why can't you guys give me half a centimeter? I would at least get up to 160?" Yachi nagged, Tsukishima snorted and looked down on her.
"It's okay Yachi-san, you still have 2 or 3 more years to grow. You should start jumping more so that you'll stretch your legs." He teased, Yachi smacked his shoulder and frowned.
"I'll grow tall! you'll see it! Kiri-chan is shorter than you but she's still considered to be tall. heck, she's even taller than Kageyama and I'm barely at Hinata's level." Tsukishima shrugged, why is Yachi talking so much about this Kiri girl? He doesn't really remember any of the girl's faces except for Yachi's best friend, anyone else is a blur. They finally got up to the cafe, Tsukishima couldn't help but smile as they got nearer.
"Oh! it's Kiri-chan..." Yachi said, more shocked than surprised. She suddenly pulled Tsukishima back, which confused the taller male.
"Why are we going back to the staircase, the cafe is there, Yachi-san," Tsukishima said, easily pulling the girl back. Yachi frowned and bit her lip.
"W-well, I guess I'm feeling tired now. Let's just go home, okay, Tsukki?" Yachi said. Tsukishima frowned and pulled her back.
"No, you agreed. No take-backs, I want cake so we will eat cake." Tsukishima said, gripping her wrist and tugging her along. He pushed open the door and was going to walk to the counter but someone called out to Yachi.
"Ah! Hito-chan!" Kiri called out as they walked in. Silence fell upon them as Kiri looked at Tsukishima's and Yachi's hands holding each other. Yachi tugged her hand away from him, which made him stare at her weirdly.
"Kiri-chan! You go to this cafe too? I-we, Tsukishima, and I are gonna be studying here." Yachi gave a white lie, Tsukishima frowned, even more, he was very confused. Is this what female friends talk with each other? Why do they always tell half the truth?
"No, I want to eat cake-" Tsukishima tried to say, but the nails digging on his arm made him stop. Women can be scary.
"Oh! I was just looking for a nice cafe. I guess we have similar taste huh?" Kiri chuckled which Yachi also agreed. In the end, Tsukishima got stuck with studying with two girls and NO CAKE.
"So, you and Tsukishima-kun are in the same club and same class right?" Kiri asked which Yachi shyly nodded.
"It must be tough being a manager," Again Yachi just shyly shook her head.
"No, my club members help me with being a manager, like... getting things from tall shelves. Or carrying stuff- I don't ask them to do so but they just take it away from my hands so..." Yachi slumped down, recalling the many failed attempts of her trying to take boxes and bags from tall shelves( her ending up on the ground with a thud and her teammates rushing over to see if she was alright, she was never almost alright, since then they have just carried stuff for her.)
"That's because you always hurt yourself. I might as well just carry the heavy things to avoid any injuries." Tsukishima fired back, actually attempting to be in the conversation. Yachi laughed nervously.
"I guess so. A-anyway, Kiri-chan, you're joining the Karasuno volleyball girls team right?"Yachi changed the subject. Kiri nodded excitedly.
"Although I'm a bit late, I hope I can get in! Hito-chan, you must know a lot about the game already... I hope to learn from you!" Kiri said excitedly, Yachi blushed and nodded, feeling proud of herself, Tsukishima smiled as he looked at the girl.
"You too, Tsukishima-kun! You're a great blocker when I looked at your games! I hope you'd teach me someday!" Kiri added, Which slightly bothered Yachi's smile. Tsukishima nodded silently.
"So, when is your trail, Kiri-chan?" Yachi said. Kiri smiled.
"It's this coming Wednesday! The girl's volleyball club is near the guy's one right? I might be able to stop by!" Kiri said, Yachi nodded. Tsukishima looked down at the girl, she was starting to fiddle with her fingers under the table, he sighed knowing she was feeling nervous.
"What's wrong Tsukishima-kun?" Yachi suddenly asked, she stared right back at him which caught him by surprise. He cleared his throat.
"I want cake-"
"Anyway, I hope everything is fine with you and Ryamichi-chan!" Yachi turned back to the girl, ignoring him. Tsukishima clicked his tongue and looked down on his papers and muttering under his breath. Kiri looked at the two, confused as heck.
"No, I and Rya-chan resolved it... I thought about it and I should not like someone I barely know! B-but..." Kiri explained, Yachi widen her eyes and nodded. Tsukishima didn't bother hearing their conversation, too caught up in wanting to buy a cake. Why can't he buy his cake!? Heck, why is he following her lead? He can buy a cake whenever he wants!
"There is someone else that I think I like..." Kiri added, looking at Tsukishima and then to Yachi. Yachi's heart dropped. What did she just see? Her mind went crazy, does Kiri like Tsukishima? No, it can't be- but it can be true, but-
"Oh! I should get going now! I'll see you two at school tomorrow!" Kiri said, she packed her bag and left, waving at Yachi and gave a giddy smile at Tsukishima. Yachi flinched but nodded, once Kiri left, Yachi released a sigh and stretched her arms.
"Are you still intimidated with tall people?" Tsukishima suddenly asks, which Yachi flinched at. Well, she can't exactly tell him the truth about Kiri liking him, well she's not so sure about it herself, but she would rather not find out.
"Huh? No way! Never! How can I... yeah... She's so tall and pretty ah, isn't she so great, Tsukishima-kun?" Yachi said, sighing once again, she rested her head on the table. Tsukishima shrugged, he barely knows the girl so he has nothing to say about her.
Yachi was having second thoughts, Kiri is a nice girl, she's tall, kind, caring, she certainly is pretty and heck she will most probably be a volleyball player. If she does get together with Tsukishima, they would be a power couple or something.
"I don't know her so I don't know if she's actually great or not. Who cares about how pretty she is or how tall she is, what matters is their personality, right?" He commented, Yachi turned her head to him, looking surprised. Tsukishima ruffled the girl's head so that she would stop staring at him. Yachi still had her worries, she frowned when she imagined Tsukishima and Kiri laughing and happy.
"Come on, let's go." Yachi snapped out of her thoughts. Tsukishima got up and packed his stuff, he waited for her to also finish up. They got out of the store, it was a nice evening. Yachi took a deep breath of the fresh air, she ignored her burning questions and tried to relax. She shouldn't be jealous, she is just Tsukishima's friend! Besides many other girls like the male and many have come up to her to help them, granted Tsukishima would tell them to go away and stop bothering his friends. (Yamaguchi had complained about girls asking for Tsukishima's number). She shook her head.
"Look Tsukishima-kun. The moon is so bright, it looks so close." Yachi tugged on his shoulder. He also looked up to the full moon.
"Yeah, I guess he is," Tsukishima whispered, Yachi smiled and nodded, not fully understanding what he meant.
They slowly made their way down the staircase, just talking about random stuff. About homework or school, video games that Nishinoya forced them to play, volleyball and Kiri. Tsukishima would roll his eyes whenever Yachi would talk about her, why is she so persistent to tell him about what Kiri likes? He doesn't care about someone who barely is an acquaintance. Yachi would pout but she understands why he was getting bothered and changed the subject.
"Does jumping actually help you grow taller?" Yachi asked randomly, Tsukishima nodded. Yachi's eyes twinkle, she will start jumping every day from now on. She jumped down step by step, holding the railings of course.
"If I do this every day, I'll grow tall in no time!" Yachi cheered, she turned to him with a big smile. He rolled his eyes but nodded. Yachi looked down to take a backward step which isn't that safe.
"Just be-" Tsukishima was going to say but she yelped, slipping off the step. He quickly yanked her back into safety. "Careful!" His adrenaline kicked in and her hands landed on his chest, feeling his heart beating fast, her heart was at the same pace as him and her face was red.
"Wah, good catch! I would have fallen to my death right then and there." Yachi said, laughing off her adrenaline and embarrassment. Tsukishima gripped her waist tightly until he was sure she was balanced on the stair, then he frowned and flicked her forehead, Yachi yelped and instantly gripped her forehead.
"Baka! What are you think!? Jesus Christ, you almost gave me a heart attack." Tsukishima scolded, taking a relief breath. Yachi smiled guiltily, her heart was still beating faster than usual, but maybe it's from the sudden face of death.
"C'mon, hold onto the railing," Tsukishima said pulling her hand to the railing. Yachi rolled her eyes but did what she was told. "And please walk down properly. I don't want to get bitten by Nishinoya-senpai again for not saving you." Tsukishima said, shuddering at the thought, he has one too many bites from their small senior.
They finally reached the end of the staircase.
"Wait, Tsukishima-kun," Yachi said, pulling back the male. He looked at her in confusion as she took 2 steps up. she looked at him, grinning.
"I'm now the same height as you!" Yachi said, placing her hand right above her and leveled them. Tsukishima couldn't hold back his laugh.
"Seriously?" He smirked, looking amused. Yachi nodded, her toothy grin showing.
"Now I know how it feels to see you at eye level without looking up!" Yachi said, giggling. Tsukishima rolled his eyes but let the girl have her moment.
"Satisfied?" He said after a while. Yachi nodded happily, she has calmed down considerably thanks to the male in front of her.
"Yep, satisfied!" Tsukishima smirked and hummed an okay. They shared a quick glance, Tsukishima wanting to say something to her but he turned to start walking to the bus stop and Yachi followed him along.
"My neck hurt's from having to look up all the time," Yachi whined. Holding her neck, Tsukishima poked her cheek, another habit of his.
"Grow taller then."He teased, Yachi stuck out her tongue childishly. Tsukishima smiled menacingly while he pinched her cheek.
"That's cheating!" Yachi whined, grabbing his hands that pinched her cheeks, trying to rip it away. Tsukishima laughed in triumph.
Yachi rolled her eyes but didn't do anything else but soothe her reddened cheek. They walked along the dark street, bickering and laughing together.
This read was made by a very sleep-deprived author. So I'm sorry if there are more mistakes than usual and if the story just suddenly goes out of the flow. I was definitely half-asleep on some parts. Sorry 😅
