Chapter 9

Rhydian just locked the door when he was hit with the scent of a wolfblood...

Nobody's POV

Rhyds:"Shan, tom. There's someone here."

Shan:"Rhydian what do you mean? Another?..." She stops and looks at him her eyes wide. Again Ava and Harry look at the trio confused. Rhydian sniffs the air and follows the scent to the front door. tom, Shan, Harry and Ava are in hot pursuit. As he reaches there he sees the figure of a short woman with silvery grey hair. He's about to say something when she turns around.

The woman:" oh finally someone comes. And why may I ask is no one answering the door?..." She walks upto Rhydian and looks at him closely. "And you must be Rhydian. My my your a lot more handsome in the flesh. My grand daughter did choose a looker didn't she."

Rhyds:"sorry who are you?"

The woman:" oh silly me. I'm Madeline's grandmother, Ellie. Emma's mother. It's Madeline birthday on saturday so I'm staying a couple of nights. Thought I'd surprise her." She looks behind Rhydian at the other four. "And I'm presuming they are the diamond?"

Rhyds:"sorry I don't understand. The diamond? They are mine and Maddy's friends."

ellie:"and they know the secret? They are part of your pack?"

Rhyds:"only tom and Shannon know." Tom and Shan step foreword slightly."

Ellie:"ah the keeper and the witch."

Rhyds:"ok now I'm really confused?..."

Ellie:"have you not been told of the prophecy? Of the diamond? And where is my daughter and the rest of the family?"

Rhyds:"no we haven't been told. They had to leave for the wild. A scientist got some of their DNA. We came here to clean and store the food. We set out for the wild tomorrow. Were throwing Maddy a surprise party."

Ellie:"I told emma and Dan to tell you all. I can't believe they didn't listen. Right I will leave with you tomorrow. Make sure the other two come aswell. They are a part of all of this. So where am I staying?"

Rhyds:"erm you can stay at my house. What do you mean they are a part of it?"

Ellie:" my goodness you ask a lot of questions. I'm not going to explain twice so I will tell you all tomorrow when you are all together. Now let's get moving I'm very tired. I've had a long journey."

Rhyds:"Ellie how can you go to Jana's pack? Won't you be trespassing on their territory?" Rhydian whispers.

Ellie:"Rhydian my boy have you not been told that I'm the queen of all wolfbloods. I can go wherever I like... This Jana girl? She's the betrayer isn't she?" She whispers back.

Rhydian just nodded a little shocked.

Ellie:"her take my bag." She says passing her bag to Rhydian who takes it.

The friends say bye to each other. Harry and Shan walk one way, tom and Ava walk in another direction and Rhydian and Ellie walk towards his house. Suddenly he remembers something and abruptly stops.

Ellie:"what is it boy?"

Rhyds:"you can't stay at my house?"

Ellie:"why ever not. I'm starting to have second thoughts about you."

Rhyds:"no it's not like that. It's just we've told everyone the smiths have moved to your house to take care of you as your really ill. My foster mum will ask questions if I take you home and I can't tell her your my grandma because as far as she knows I have no family."

Ellie:"I can't believe they used me as an excuse. Well what are you standing there for? What are we going to do?"

Rhyds:"I'll call tom."

Rhydian calls tom and explains the situation. He tells tom that if anyone asks he's staying at toms house as they are working on a project together. He asks tom to call Shan and let her know to. He tells him to make sure Harry and Ava know not to say anything about Ellie. He then hangs up.

Rhyds:"we'll stay at the smiths house."

Ellie:"you are a bright young lad aren't you. I can see how Madeline was taken by you."

Rhydian just smiles at Ellie and leads the way back. He unlocks the door and holds it open for her. Once inside he closes the door and takes her little trolley into Emma and dans room. He comes back downstairs and puts the heating on.

Rhyds:"can I get you anything? Tea, coffee, food?"

Ellie:"quite the gentleman you are. A cup of tea would be lovely. And I could murder a steak right now, please."

Rhyds:"there isn't any food here but I could run and get you some. Would you like the tea first before I go?"

Ellie:"yes please. I like it milky and with 2 sugars thank you."

Rhydian goes and makes her tea. He places the mug on the table in front of her. He grabs his jacket and runs to Bernie's. He buys one steak meaL. He hands Bernie a £10 note and waits for his change. He runs back and places the food into a plate. He grabs a knife and fork and takes the food inside. He places it on the table.

Ellie:"oh that was quick. Thank you very much. And the tea was lovely."

Rhyds:" my pleasure. I'll be upstairs if you need me."

Ellie:"aren't you going to join me?"

Rhyds:"I'm not hungry."

Ellie:"make sure you don't tell Maddy I'm here." She says knowingly. Rhydian just nods as he heads into Maddy's room. Once he's there he lies down on Maddy's bed and sighs. It had been a long week. His heart is in agony and holding himself together in front of his family, In front of his brothers and sisters (Shan, Ava, tom and Harry) had been hard. Too hard. He'd hardly slept, didn't eat and could barely concentrate. Oh how he missed his Maddy. He didn't know how he would get through the time from now until he was with her again. And what was Maddy's grandma on about. He didn't want to think of that now. Instead he kicked of his shoes, and closed his eyes to watch what his Maddy was doing right now.

The next morning

Tom knocked on Ava's front door. He knew the way as he had dropped her home last night when they had left Maddy's place. He smiles to himself as he remembers her giving him a kiss on his cheek before walking in. Mrs grey opened the door.

Mrs.G:" hi. You must be tom."

tom:"yes I am. Erm hi mrs grey."

Mrs.G:"please call me Lucy. Come on in. It's so nice to finally meet you. Ava has told me so much about you. I'm sorry I'm getting late for work. I have an urgent surgery to attend." Tom has followed her in and Ava has just come down. She sees tom and smiles.

Ava:"hey tom."

Tom:"hey Ava you ready for school?"

Ava:"yeah I am. Just gonna grab my bag." She grabs her slightly large bag says bye to her mum then gets out with tom following closely behind. As soon as they get out she links her arm in to toms. Just as they reach the school gate so do Harry and Shannon.

Shan:"hey guys. Have any of you seen Rhydian? I tried his mobile but I got his voicemail instead." everyone shook their heads. They all headed into the school. Shannon led them all to the dark room. She picked up two 35mm cameras. (did anyone get that 35mm ;) from pack leader season 2 episode 1) "we'll borrow these to take pictures at the party." Then the four of them head into class.

As they get into class and take their seats Rhydian shuffles in. Eyes bright read and all puffy from lack of sleep. Rhydian looks to see that tom has sat next to Ava and Shannon with Harry so he takes the seat behind Shan and Harry at the back of the classroom. Shan and Harry turn around. Tom and Ava bring their seats around.

Shan:"rhydian are you ok? You look like you haven't slept a wink."

Rhyds: "that's because I haven't slept a wink."

Tom:"why bro? Is there something wrong?"

Rhydian:"no I just couldn't sleep. So I decided to go get Aaron, Adam and Alex during the early morning. Thought whats the point in wasting time. I didn't disturb Ellie as she was already asleep. When I got there I woke mum, emma and Dan up. i told them the plan. Winnie ended up sniffing me out somehow so she came to mums hut. We told her the plan too. She said she'd make Jana a sleeping draft that will keep her knocked out. Then we went to the A trio. They weren't too happy at being woken up and they totally disagreed with coming into the human world. I tried to persuade them but they weren't having any of it. In the end Winnie ordered them to come with me. Said she would tell Jana that she sent them on an errand. Then I bought them three back and grabbed them all breakfast on the way from Bernie's. Luckily Ellie was awake so she's gonna take care of them. As soon as I got back I changed into my uniform and came straight here."

As Rhydian finishes the bell rings and Mr. Jeffries walks in, so everyone go back to their places. Rhydian puts his head down feeling very weak. He hasn't eaten in a week. And he's not been sleeping properly. The day drags with Rhydian either sleeping or brooding through it. When the final bell goes at the end of the school day, the five friends head out and towards Maddy's house together.

When they get their Rhydian let's them in. Ellie has cleaned away the breakfast dishes and thrown all the rubbish out. The A trio are sat waiting. They sniff at ava and Harry when they enter.

Aaron:"another 2 chalwirers! Cub what is going on."

Ellie:"Aaron calm yourself. They are needed."

Aaron bows his head. "Yes my queen."

Rhyds:"all set? Shall we get moving." Everyone nods as they all move out and Rhydian locks up behind them. They head to the garage and Rhydian unlocks the door. The A trio hold most of the heavy things as it's very easy for them to carry. Harry and tom take the party decorations and Rhydian held the heavy bags. Shannon and Ava take the cake. They all refuse to let Ellie hold onto anything. Rhydian locks the garage once they are all out and pockets his key. He picks up his bags and they set off.

Ava:"tom where are we going?" Ava whispers to tom.

Tom:"you'll see and understand soon enough."

They walk through the forest as that will be the shortest route but it's hard for the humans to walk through the dense parts, though they do try their best. It takes a gruelling 2 hours for them to finally reach the border. Once they get there Rhydian tells Ellie she has to distract Maddy.

Rhydian:"Winnie's got Jana and I'm sure Maddy's in the den. just text me when you've got her in her room so we can sneak and put this all away and then we'll come to you."

Ellie:"ok."

Ellie crosses the border. 5 minutes later Rhydian gets a text. "It's done."

They all cross the border and Cerri and Bryn come and join them. They take some stuff and help them carry it to the main hut. They place all the fridge stuff in the fridge and store the rest of the things in the cupboard. once they were done Rhydian introduced Ava and Harry to his mum and Bryn.

Rhyds:"Ava, Harry, this is my mum Cerri and my little brother Bryn. Mum, Bryn, this is Ava and this is Harry." They all shake hands then Cerri leads them all to her hut. When they enter they see Maddy sat with Ellie. As soon as Maddy sees Rhydian she jumps up and straight into his arms. They hold each other tightly. Then Maddy looks up and they both kiss very briefly before pulling away. They let go of each other but Maddy takes hold of Rhydian's right hand with her left. She looks back at the rest of the group.

Mads:"hey Harry."

Harry:"hi Maddy." Then Maddy turns to Ava.

Maddy:"and you must be Ava?" Ava nods.

Shan:"hang on a minute how did you know about Ava?"

Mads:"erm I er."

Rhyds:"we'll explain later."

Maddy gives Shan, tom, Harry and Ava a hug. Just then Emma and Dan walk in. They greet Rhydian, Shan and tom before Ava and Harry are again introduced. Then Emma turns to her mum.

Emma:"mam what are you doing? We told you not yet they are too young."

Ellie:"they are old enough now. What better time than now when they really are in danger. your living in the wild em. They deserve to know."

Cerri:"Emma, Ellie is right. Come we'll leave them for her to explain. We'll make these guys something to eat."

Emma nods dejectedly but her, Dan, Cerri and Bryn leave the room, closing the door behind them. Ellie tells them all to get comfortable. Rhydian pulls Maddy into his lap unable to bear any more distance. Maddy sits willingly. As Ellie sits down the 6 friends look at her expectantly. Ellie begins.

Ellie:"thousands of years ago a prophecy was predicted. It was said that the granddaughter of the 2405th queen would mate with the son of the 2307th alpha female of the alpha of the wild packs. That's you and Rhydian, Maddy. It was said that you two would take over after me and you would join and make peace between all wolfbloods, once and for all. You would be the greatest leaders to ever live. But you would not rule alone. During your life you would meet four others. They would be your best friends and you would treat each other like family. The other four would be known as the witch healer, the keeper, the witch's protector and the keeper's advisor. The keeper is the protector. He will lay his life for his pack, he will be the most overprotective pack member and will be the one to look for solutions to problems. He will also be the one that gets the most angry and the pack at first won't understand his importance. His advisor is the one he confides in. The one who helps him to figure out problems and is the only one who can calm him. The keeper is you tom. And Ava is your advisor. Then there is the witch healer. She also plays a part in protection. But her job is more to do with making potions to heal or help her pack. She is the knowledge and brains of the pack. Her protector is the one who looks over her to ensure no harm comes to her. Shannon you are the witch healer and Harry is your protector. it was said that you four would make the diamond. With you four being with Rhydian and Maddy, they would never come to harm. But there is one thing that was said about this pack that is different from all others. It was said that this was the only pack that treated each other as equals. The king and queen would not think of themselves as superiors. No one person would have a specific job. The whole pack would help each other no matter how big or small a task was. Now Maddy and Rhydian, when your apart you will feel an invisible pull. You will both suffer pains in your hearts. This is because you are mates. The pull you feel is stronger than what anyone can even begin to imagine. You cannot be apart. being apart for too long can be fatal. It can kill you both. So we need to bring Maddy home as soon as possible. Now I believe, Shannon, you and tom have been given your pendant and bracelet?" Shannon and tom nod. "Good. Now the necklace will give you the knowledge you need to make a potion. It will also let you know which potion is suitable for a particular situation. Also when in desperate need the necklace can heal the gravest of injuries. It can bring a person back to perfect health from the brink of death. And tom that bracelet. It can produce a shield around you and the pack and protect you from danger. Also if someone from the pack becomes lost the bracelet can lead you to them. As for Maddy and Rhydian well they can talk to each other through their minds. It doesn't matter how far or close they are. It's a rare trait to have even as mates but it comes in handy if you have it. And that's about it really. Actually..." She reaches out for her bag. She moves her hand around in the bag and pulls out two pendants matching Shannon's and two bracelets matching toms. She hands them to Harry, Rhydian, Maddy and Ava. "You four need these too. This is because like I said before you all help each other. No one is dependant on anyone. You are all equals."

Harry spoke up. "Erm what's a wolfblood can I ask?"

Ellie:"oh yes we still have the hurdle of explaining that to you. Well a wolfblood is half human and half wolf."

Ava:"so a werewolf?"

Ellie:"by god! No. Werewolves do not exist. They are fictional creatures or monsters if you like. They only transform on full moons and they do not take a full wolf form though their minds transform completely and they can no longer think like humans. A wolfblood does also transform on a full moon but they transform into a proper wolf. But they still have their human senses. And we don't attack humans. We actually shy away from them. But wolfbloods can transform on will. They can transform whenever they like. Except of course on no moon days when they are fully human. But on other days even as humans they still have wolf senses and can use their wolf powers. We mostly transform if we are angry or upset. But we can do it whenever we like."

Ava:"so are you all wolfbloods? Tom you aswell?"

Ellie:" no only me Maddy and Rhydian are. Tom and Shannon are humans. Wolfbloods are born as wolfbloods. They are not bitten. If you were bitten by a wolfblood you would probably die. Like I said we are not monsters."

Ava and Harry just nod. They look like they are in shock.

Ellie:"would you like to see? You will be completely safe. Trust me." Again Harry and Ava just nod. Ellie nods at Rhydian and Maddy. The three stand up and transform into their wolf selves. Maddy a reddish brown medium wolf. Rhydian a grey, brown large wolf and Ellie a beautiful white fully grown wolf. At first Ava and Harry are afraid and just move back, but Maddy and Rhydian gently move closer to them. Shannon tells them to hold out their hands and not be afraid. so they do and Maddy and rhydian sniff their hands. This causes Harry and Ava to smile. The three turn back to their human forms. Obviously Ava and Harry are a little shocked at first but they get comfortable between their friends again.

Harry:"so how does whitewood and Liam come in to this? Why is Maddy living here?"

Tom:"I'll answer that for you. Basically remember when we went on that camping trip when Liam fell down the hole Maddy transformed to get in through a badger hole to save him. Now he's been suspicious since that day. He went down them tunnels and they led him back to Maddy's house. That night was a full moon and these guys had already transformed. As there was a wall between them Liam didn't know it was Maddy's house. In the morning Dan and Rhydian knocked the wall down and then that afternoon when Liam went back, because the wall was knocked down he was able to get the dog chew. When we all came down because Maddy had sniffed him out he said he knew who we were. Then Maddy bought her parents to school in wolf form but Liam had already given the dog chew for testing. He believed Maddy's story but when Maddy came home that day dr whitewood already knew the secret. She'd already done the tests. In detention when Liam mentioned the dog chew Rhydian left and took the evidence. He got rid of all of whitewoods data. But if Maddy still lived in stoneybridge then whitewood could just get her DNA again. We need to get rid of her for good before Maddy can come back."

Harry and Ava nod in understanding. Just then there's a knock on the door. Ava opens it and Winnie comes in.

Winnie:"have you told them Ellie." Ellie nods. "How did you guys take the news?"

Ava:"better than expected and by the look of things better than you guys expected too." Everyone smiles. "So are all of you here wolfbloods? Why do you live here? Why not like Rhydian lives? And why do you hate the human world?"

Winnie:" one question at a time dear. Hate is a powerful word. We don't hate the human world it's just for a long time we were expected to hate it because it was humans that started to wipe out our species so disliking them comes naturally. Obviously now thanks to you guys we know not all humans are evil. Not entering the human world or hiding our selves away is a part of who we are to protect ourselves, our family and friends and most importantly our packs."

Shan:"Winnie where's Jana?"

Winnie:"she was doing my head in so I gave her the sleeping draft early. She should be knocked out until sunday morning. At last we'll have some peace and quiet." Everyone laughs and at that moment Emma, Dan, Cerri and Bryn walk in.

Emma:"have you finished mam?" Ellie nods.

Maddy:"mam, dad why didn't you tell us?"

Dan:"Maddy, sweet heart we wanted to but at the same time we wanted to protect you. We didn't want to thrust your future at you. We wanted you to know that you had a choice, to live the future you wanted to live." Emma and Dan hold hands expecting Maddy to start a full blown argument. Instead that are surprised when she talks back calmly. They suspect it's because Rhydian is here so she is feeling better.

Mads:"I understand. It's ok. We know now."

Cerri:"right come and eat you lot. Then of to bed. We've got a long day tomorrow. Everyone nods in agreement and Maddy looks at them all confused. Then she just shrugs her shoulders as Rhydian pulls her along with him into the main hut to eat. They sit and start to eat the boys talking between themselves and Maddy Ava and Shan talking between themselves.

As soon as they were done eating Ellie rushed them of to bed. Emma had made beds on the floor. Bryn slept in the top bunk with tom in the opposite direction. Maddy gave her bed for Ava and Shan to share and Harry, Maddy and Rhydian had air mattresses on the floor. Harry had a single one near the bed and Maddy and Rhydian slept on a double placed near the wall. They all wished each other good night as Dan turned of the light. Maddy snuggled up to Rhydian. They kissed goodnight and fell asleep together. Harry gave Shan a goodnight kiss to before settling down.

At 11:55pm Rhydian shook Maddy awake. She woke up.

Mads:"Rhydian what's up? Is everything ok?"

Rhyds:"everything's fine mads. I just want you to come with me a second." Maddy nodded.

They both slipped on their shoes and slipped out. Rhydian grabbed the duvet on the way out to keep them warm. As soon as the door closed behind them he wrapped Maddy in the duvet, picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. She screamed slightly in surprise.

Mads:"Rhydian what are you doing put me down!"

Rhyds:" no way. You'll see in a minute." With that Rhydian sprinted at top speed towards the forest. he quickly climbed a large tree that had a u-bend and then he put Maddy down. They sat together in the u-bend and Maddy covered Rhydian with the duvet as he slipped his arm around her.

Mads:"why have you bought us here?" She asks confused.

Rhyds:"because I wanted to be the first."

Mads:"first what?" She asks now even more confused. Just then Rhydian's watch beeps.

Rhyds:"first one to say happy birthday mads." Maddy smiles. "Happy birthday Maddy."

Maddy has tears in her eyes. "Thank you Rhydian. I can't believe you remembered."

Rhyds:"of course I remembered. I love you."

Mads:"I love you too."

Maddy leans in towards Rhydian's lips. As their lips lock an electric current passes through both of them. They are holding each other close, keeping out the cold. Their tongues caressing and exploring the still new surroundings of the others mouth. 20 minutes later Rhydian pulled back, his eyes clouded with passion. Maddy was the same.

Mads:"why did you stop?"

Rhyds:" because." Rhydian says looking down. How could he tell her how turned on he was and how much he wanted her. " I want to give you your present now." Maddy looks at him.

Mads:"you got me a present? Why? You didn't need to."

Rhyds:" mads don't start I wanted too. Plus I got it quite a while ago I just didn't know how to give it to you. But now were together and our pack is complete so what better time to give it than on your birthday. Now close your eyes." Maddy closes her eyes and Rhydian places a white gold locket around her neck and claspes it close. "You can open your eyes now." Maddy opens her eyes and looks down at the locket. She lifts it away from her body (it's a long chain) and fingers the cover. its a carving of two wolves howling at the moon and around the whole cover in a single line diamonds are studded in. "open it." So she does. It's quite a large locket. The first picture holder has her parents and her grandmother in it. the second contains a picture of Rhydian. The third of Shan. The fourth of tom. The fifth of Harry. The sixth of Ava and the seventh of Bryn and Cerri. It was two pictures per holder so the last part was empty. "That's for when we have our own cub or cubs." Maddy blushes. The inside of the back has writing carved into it. Maddy reads aloud. "To my beloved Maddy. Happy 16th birthday. Our pack may not always be together but Now you will always have them near you. i will never leave your side. I love you. Your Rhydian. xxx"

Rhyds:"close it and look at the back." Maddy does as Rhydian says. Again their is writing engraved. This time in Welsh. "I fy annwyl Maddy. 16eg pen-blwydd hapus. Efallai na fydd ein pecyn bob amser gyda'i gilydd ond Nawr byddwch bob amser yn cael eu yn eich ardal chi. Ni bydd i adael eich ochr. Rwyf wrth fy modd i chi. Rydych chi'n Rhydian."

Rhyds:"this is the English written in welsh." Maddy has tears running down her cheeks. She throws her arms around Rhydian and hides her face in his neck as she sobs softly. "Maddy please don't cry. I didn't meant to hurt you. I thought you would like it." Maddy looks up.

Mads:"Rhydian I love it. Your so thoughtful. These are tears of joy. I'm so lucky to have you."

Rhyds:"and I am lucky to have you. Now stop crying. Let's head back I don't want you to get ill." With that Rhydian pulls Maddy into his lap and picks her up bridal style with the duvet wrapped around her she looks like she is in a wedding dress. He jumps down from the tree and lands perfectly on the ground. He stands up straight and walks back to the hut. He puts Maddy down on the bed and gets in besides her. She wraps them both in the duvet. They snuggle up with each other and once again fall asleep.
