Chapter Sixteen

       The next morning Maya Lucas and Smackle walked in. A few minutes later Farkle walked everyone thought Riley and Farkle would come to school together. "Wheres Riley?" Farkle asked Maya laughed "I was gonna ask you the same." Everyone watched the door for Riley.       Mr. Matthews walked in and smiled at the group. He just walked into his class. No one knew where Riley was. Maya and the rest followed Cory. "Wheres Riley?" she said walking into his class. He looked up from his papers confused "She left before me. She's not here?" he asked everyone looked around.         Riley walked into the classroom. "Hey." she said quietly and just sat down and started reading. "You left before me how did you get here after me?" Cory asked. Riley looked up "I took the subway and it broke down for a few minutes." Riley said and then went back to her book.         The subway? The gang takes the subway together always. "Wheres Zay?" Farkle asked. "Sick." Lucas said. No one took their eyes off of Riley. Riley felt like she was about to cry. She held it in. "What book?" Cory asked "Mystery of the Missing Diamond series." Riley said. "Erics favorite" Cory said weakly smiling "Yep." Riley said shortly and held the book tighter.         Today was the schools free day. One day every school year you had to stay in the school but you had no classes.         Riley kept reading. Everyone watched her read the book page by page. Everyone could tell she wanted to cry but she didnt shed a tear. Everyone grabbed a chair and pulled up a chair and sat next to her. She didnt say anything she just kept reading.          Rileys phone dinged. She got it out of her pocket and looked at it. It was Josh.      The text read:

  Hey did you hear Eric is dead? I was like nah. Anyways I didnt know him that well so i dont really care. Anyways gotta run.

        Riley didnt respond to his text. She threw her phone across the room and pushed Lucas back and left. Lucas fell against a desk. "Are you okay?" Farkle asked helping Lucas. "Yeah Im good." Lucas said. He brushed off the outburst. Maya got up and got Rileys cracked phone. She read the text and got furious and then read it out loud.        Everyone got mad and looked at eachother. Maya left to go check on Riley. Riley was crying on the stairs. Maya sat down and talked to her. "Riley that wasnt nice of boing." Maya said. Riley smiled at the fact that she called him boing. Riley was really upset. "He didnt even think about how someone else would react." Riley said. Maya nodded and stood up. They grabbed eachothers hand and walked into class.           "Riley are you okay?" Farkle asked concerned. Riley sniffled and wiped away some tears "Yeah." She walked over to Lucas. "Im sorry i pushed you." She said. He got up and hugged her "Its fine." Lucas said. When they were done hugging Maya handed Riley her phone. She looked at her cracked screen but didnt care about the screen.            Her phone dinged it was from Josh, again. Riley slid open her phone and put in her passcode.      The text read:

    Riley! Guess what! My mom gave me Eric's old very important favorite baseball! Im going to sell it online and split the money with the rest of the family.

        Rileys jaw dropped. She looked hurt and angry. "HE CANT DO THAT!" she yelled and then realized she didnt mean to say it out loud. "Who cant do what?" Cory asked. She showed him the text and then showed everyone else. "Hes not going to do anything." Cory said. Riley calmed down.            Josh sent her a screenshot of the base ball and it said 'SOLD for $1000' Riley showed everyone. The bell rang the school day was over. Farkle walked Riley home.                "You sure you dont want to come to Topangas? It might be good for you. Your dad said all of your family was in there." Farkle said when they got to Rileys house. "Yeah. I should go in there." Riley said. Farkle nodded and kissed her "See you tomorrow." he said "See you tomorrow." she said.         Riley walked inside everyone was silent and all of the focus was on her.The first people she saw were Jack, Shawn, Topanga, Cory, Katy, and Josh. She looked at Josh. Her phone started ringing "Hello....Farkle im fine....No i might come later.....everyones here.....yes him too......no im good.....you too.....No im not coming to Topangas right now.....okay.....you too.....uh huh....tell them i said hey and im fine.....okay you too....mhm...bye" Riley said on the phone she hung up and looked at everyone staring at her.      "My boyfriend and the rest of my friends." Riley set her stuff down. Everyone still looking at her.        She thought oh no. dont cry. why are they looking at me. this is bad.
