36: Surrender

17:29, 23 September 2021

Soon both of you arrived at the great hall, you could see many bodies laid there on the ground. You prayed to God that you won't see your friends.

You looked around, inspecting to see everyone you don't know whether you should be relieved since it only took you a few seconds that your friends are all fine or be sad that your fingers could count all your friends.

As the crowd notices you and Draco, you could feel your face go red when you felt everyone staring at both of you.

"Ignore them." He said to you, noticing your embarrassment.

"You said it like was nothing, you're not the one being carried." You pouted at him, which only made Draco smiled.

After Madam Pomfrey healed your injuries, you and Draco sat by the corner, trying to help Draco distract his mind from everyone. After their stare, you hear that they were discussing something about him.

You glared at everyone around to make them quiet down.

"I'm alright, Lia. It's not like it's the first time this had happened." He held your hand as if he was holding you back from rushing to punch everyone here.

You sighed.

"I know; it's just infuriating that everyone here judges you for something you never wanted." You laid your head on Draco's shoulder, you felt so useless, knowing that you can't change everyone's opinion about Draco.

"Hey, Malfoy." Suddenly, you heard.

You saw the Weasley twins walking over towards both of you.

You have talked to them a few times; you don't know why but they were always interested in you. Sometimes they would come bothering you and you would give them a witty response and they would be left speechless.

"Hey, Merlia." George said.

"Hello, George." You said to George and then turn to Fred.

"Fred." You greeted them.

"You still can tell us apart even after a year of not seeing us." George said.

Yes, you were one of few, if not the only one other than their family, that could actually differentiate which twin is which from the first time you met them.

Maybe that's why they were so interested in you, your ability to observe people and know their differences instantly piqued their curiosity about you.

"I'll take that as a compliment. So what business do you have with Draco?" You asked in Draco's place.

"We just wanted to thank him... for saving my life." Fred said.

You turn to Draco.

"Really?" You asked him, a smile on your face, surprised and actually very proud of him.

"I did?" He even questioned himself, not remembering doing anything about it.

"You did. I watched you stunned that Death Eater when he was about to kill Fred." George said, explaining what he witnessed.

But Draco still seemed like he didn't remember anything.

"You don't remember anything?" You asked while Draco seems to be trying to remember.

"You did seem flustered when I saw you." George said.

"I guess I was too focused on finding you that I didn't comprehend anything I did. But, you are welcome. I guess." He answered you and the twins.

After the twins left for their families, you turn to him again.

"You really don't remember anything?" You asked him again.

"I do remember stunning a Death Eater, I guess I accidentally helped them." Draco said, somehow embarrassed.

"That's a good thing, Draco. You proved to everyone here the that you can still be good. But most importantly, yourself." You go to hold his hand.

Draco finally smiled a little, relieved to hear that.

"Never thought this day would come." He said fondly.

"I'm proud of you." You kissed his cheek.

Then, everyone was looking in another direction.

You followed their eyes to see Harry walking into view.

You could tell that there was something on Harry's mind.

You immediately thought back to Voldemort's speech from before.

"He's not really going to surrender to The Dark Lord is he?" Draco spoke out your suspicions.

"From the looks of it, it seems like he will." You stood up and walked over to Harry, leaving Draco sitting there and watched.

You approached Harry.

"Harry. Are you alright?" You greeted him before you dropped the big question.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He just said, his voice deep and depressed.

It told you everything you need to know.

"You're going to surrender yourself, aren't you?" You asked even though you already knew the answer.

"Yes." He answered.

You could only sigh, you knew that there was nothing you could do to change his mind.

"You're not going to convince me to not go?" Harry suddenly said, making you look at him to find him smiling like he was amused.

"You looked like you made up your mind, nothing I say will change anything." You crossed your arms.

"It's kind of creepy how you could always tell what a person is thinking about, you know." Harry said like he was annoyed.

"What can I say, it's my speciality." You laughed.

There was a pause then before you broke the silence.

"Are you sure about this?" You asked again.

"It was all part of Dumbledore's plan." His answer stunned you.

For a moment, you didn't know how to react to that.

Dumbledore knew that Harry was going to have to surrender himself?

"You were right; you know." Harry spoke again.

"Right about what?" His words knocked you out from your frozen stance.

"Snape was also part of his plan." He said simply.

You remembered the conversation you had with Harry on the train last year at the end of your sixth year.

"And you're just going to follow it?" You asked again, reminding him of what Aberforth said.

"As I've told Aberforth, my answer remains the same. I thought you trusted Dumbledore's judgement." He looks at you with curiosity, seeming to have a wrong idea about what you thought about Dumbledore.

You sighed.

"I do, I just think there must be some better idea rather than sacrificing yourself." You said.

You thought that this war doesn't have to end with Harry having to sacrifice himself.

Everyone could come up with a plan together to face Voldemort together, but with only one hour to spare, there was no way but Harry to surrender himself.

"What about the last Horcrux?" You asked him the final struggle with Voldemort before he walked away.

"Nevile knows what to do." He just said and left.

That gave you the idea that there would still be a chance to win against The Dark Lord even without Harry.

Even though you seriously doubt, you trusted Harry.

You walk back to Draco.

When he noticed you walking back, you could only smile weakly at him.

Draco carefully observes you as you sat down beside him on the ground.

"So?" he asked you cautiously.

"He's made up his mind." You answered him sadly.

"And you didn't stop him? Doesn't this mean there's a big chance we'll lose?" He asked again.

Suddenly, you start to doubt yourself too.

A while ago when you were talking with Harry, you didn't even worry about how everything would turn out. And now when Draco asked you, you don't feel so confident anymore.

"I-" You hesitated.

"I don't know." You said.

"But he told me someone else would take care ofit." You quickly continued.

Draco just sighed and held onto your hand.

You laid your head on his shoulder, rethinking everything.
