21: Your Bracelet and His Mission
10:56, 18 September 2021Today was the day that Draco has dreaded.
The day he has to kill his headmaster.
He came to the lake to find you playing your violin. You were playing the exact same song the night when he found you by the lake after your parent's death.
Draco watched as you played, you were already in so much pain. He has already caused you so much hardship, and now.... he's going to leave you alone with all your pain to yourself.
You finish your song and felt a stare, a feeling you were way too familiar to not notice. You turn around to find Draco, staring at you from afar. Just like the night both of you had your first conversation.
Draco started to walk towards you as soon as you noticed him.
"Hey." He just said.
"Hey." You replied as you kept your violin inside its case.
He sat down beneath the tree as you came over to him and joined him.
The both of you stayed silent and just enjoyed each other's company for a while. You intertwined your fingers with Draco's and laid your head on his shoulder. Draco can tell that you were feeling down about this and tried to make you feel better by pressing his lips on your head.
After a while, with Draco's head laying on yours, you finally spoke up.
"Are you going to be okay?" You asked.
Draco sat up straight and faced you. You turn around to look at him too.
"Nothing's going to happen to me, Lia. You don't have to worry about anything." Draco cupped your face with his hand and the other gripped yours.
"How can I not worry? You are going to be with the Dark Lord and surrounded by other Death Eaters." You slightly raised your voice with your eyebrows furrowed.
Draco didn't what he could say because he knows that you had a point.
You sighed.
"I'm sorry, I just can't help but imagine what would happen to you." You look at him teary-eyed.
You could feel his thumb rubbing your cheek ever so gently as if you were as fragile as glass.
"Please...... keep yourself safe, Draco. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to you." Draco could feel your grasp on his hand was shaking.
"I promise you that I will keep myself safe, I'll come back in one piece," Draco assured you that he would keep himself safe. But you still could not stop worrying, so you had an idea.
You took the bracelet your mother gave you from your wrist and slid it into Draco's palm.
"Lia..." Draco didn't know what to say.
That Bracelet you have worn ever since you were a kid. It was a bracelet your mother gave you before you went to Hogwarts to remind you of home. She told you that it would bring you good luck and that it was your mother's when she was young. And now after the car accident, that bracelet meant a lot more to you than it ever was before.
"This bracelet meant a lot to you, I can't take it." He said pushing your bracelet back to you.
"No, I want you to have it." You took the bracelet from his palm and slipped the bracelet onto his wrist.
"My mother said it brings good luck." You stroked the bracelet following the chain around his wrist. You smiled as you recalled the memory when your mother gave the bracelet to you and telling you it brought you good luck.
"Really?" You look up to find Draco also smiling.
"I've been wearing it since my first year at Hogwarts, I can't say there are amazing things that happened to me through all those times I wore it." You paused and glanced down at the bracelet.
"But?" Draco asked, knowing you were going to continue with something else.
"But...... I can say that nothing bad happened to me when I wore it." You said looking back up into his eyes.
Draco immediately realised why you wanted him to have the bracelet you cherished so much. He smiled sadly at you. Draco decided right then and there that no matter what happens, he would find his way back to you no matter what. Having someone care for him other than his mother definitely feels good. But Draco almost hoped that you would forget about him and move on instead of getting involved in this mess his family had gotten into.
He pulled you into his embrace, hugging you like it was going to be the last time he will be doing it.
"I'll cherish it." He told you.
The two of you stayed in each other's arms for a few more minutes before letting each other go, knowing that your time was running out.
With both your foreheads leaning together, taking a good look at each other before separating for a long time.
"Remember to keep your promise." You reminded him of his promise earlier.
"I will."
"And I will keep mine too stick with you till the end." You said so fondly of your promise.
"Till the end." He repeated.
Draco decided to add something before he leaves.
"Stay in your common room and don't leave for the day. Got it?" he told you.
"Got it." You just answered.
-
After leaving Draco, you decided you would go back to your common room. Just like he asked. But the "Don't leave for the day" part, you decided to not listen to him.
You followed him up the Astronomy Tower and hidden before he could spot you. You wanted to make sure that Draco was safe and sound rather than staying at you're your common room wondering if he's hurt.
You were behind him at every moment, everything was going well. Draco appeared before Dumbledore with his wand pointed at him.
The headmaster and the Slytherin exchanged a conversation about the Vanishing Cabinet and then about the attempts Draco made to try and kill the Headmaster.
You were painfully watching this conversation as you knew that Draco was never proud of the attempts he made, neither is he proud of what he was forced to do now.
But then, Dumbledore declared that he knew it was Draco all along. Draco seemed unfazed.
"Why didn't you stop me, then?" the blonde demanded.
"I tried Draco. Professor Snape has been keeping watch over you on my orders--"
Professor Snape knew?
"He hasn't been doing your orders, he promised my mother--"
This went on for a while, you noticed that Draco was actually staying strong.
His voice never trembled and he seems to know exactly what he is doing.
But they were stalling, Dumbledore knew Draco was going to kill him and Draco was going along with him in this conversation.
You easily understood what was happening.
Dumbledore was delaying Draco's mission and Draco was fine with it.
Because he doesn't want to do it. He never wanted it.
They finally hit the topic that put them into the situation that they are in now.
Draco was starting to tremble and his voice became shaky.
Then Professor Dumbledore offered to help Draco out of this miserable situation.
You could not say you were surprised, Dumbledore was wise. He knows what was right and wrong.
You desperately wished that Draco would accept his help and live a better life.
But, you knew. Draco would not accept his help
Accepting his help meaning that Draco would have to abandon his father and mother to the mercy of Voldemort. And you know that Draco would never do that.
"Don't move or we'll do something you will regret." You heard the hoarse voice of a woman.
You could feel the tip of someone's wand by your neck.
You realised that there was a group of people behind you judging by the number of footsteps you heard.
Then, a man faced you, you could see multiple scars across his face.
"We shall have some fun with you later." He just said.
You didn't want to imagine what would happen to you later.
You knew it was going to be horrible.
