3.Falling
18:20, 11 October 2020(Y/N) POV
As I was getting ready for school one morning, I heard a loud crash coming from our living room. "Yah! What was that?" I yelled down the stairs. "Um...nothing! Don't worry, everything is perfectly fine!" replied Chanyeol. He was waiting downstairs to walk to school with me. He had become my closest friend during the past few weeks.
Feeling suspicious, I quickly threw on my jacket and headed downstairs. The living room was a mess. A lampshade had been knocked over and there was a trail of muddy footprints on the floor. Chanyeol and Sky were on the floor, somehow managing to look innocent and guilty at the same time. "uh...hi (Y/N)! Chanyeol said grinning sheepishly. "Hehe...have you finished getting ready already?"
"What is going on here? You know Sky isn't allowed in the house"
"I know, I know. But he looked so lonely," he pouted "And besides, you took AGES getting ready and I was bored". I sighed. "We'd better clear up this mess," I said "Good thing omma left for work early today". I reached out to grab Sky but he seemed to know what was happening and ran away from me leaving another set of muddy pawprints in his wake. I honestly had no idea how he gets so dirty. "Catch him!" I yelled at Chanyeol and together we chased Sky around the room. He ran under the table and Chanyeol motioned me to go to one side of the table while he went to the other. Together we crawled under the table trapping Sky in the middle.
"Gotcha!" I said as both of us reached for Sky. Chanyeol grinned at me over Sky's head and for a moment our eyes met. I found myself gazing into his deep brown eyes and drowning in their chocolaty depths. My heart beat quickened and I could feel my face grow hot. What was happening?! I couldn't possibly be falling for him can I? Ahni! Though he's your closest friend right now he's still a boy. And boys cant be be trusted with your heart. I told myself.
Breaking my gaze I stood up, forgetting that I was under the table. My head crashed onto the underside of the table. "OW!" I yelped, clutching my head while crawling from under the table. "Gwenchanhayo??" asked Chanyeol, his eyes wide. "Nan gwenchanha. Go put Sky in the yard while I get some ice for my head ,"I said, heading towards the kitchen. "Then we can start cleaning up this mess".
"Are you sure you're ok?" Chanyeol asked, picking up the wriggling puppy. "I'm fine," I insisted. I opened the fridge and took out an ice pack. Holding it to my head, I sat on a stool at the kitchen counter. After a minute, Chanyeol returned.
"Let's clean up that mess," I said jumping down from the stool. "No, you stay right where you are," Chanyeol said "I'll clean it up"
"But-" I started to protest. "No buts. Anyways I'm the one who made this mess so I'll clean it," Chanyeol said firmly.
I watched him as he started to mop the mud off the floor and straightened the furniture. The morning light filtered through the curtains on the window and hit chanyeol in golden beams. His floppy hair fell into his eyes and he pushed it aside in an inconspicuous but endearing way. He had become more stronger, more leaner due to his constant training, and I could see the slight swell of muscles under his shirt.
I didn't realize I was staring until Chanyeol asked, "um... why are you staring at me?" I could feel myself going red. "Uh- nothing. I-I was j-just..." I stammered.
"You were checking me out weren't you?" asked Chanyeol with a little smirk that showed off his dimple.
"Yah! Wipe that smirk off your face!" I yelled at him, hoping I wasn't blushing. "I was NOT checking you out. I have better things to do."
"(Y/N) was checking me out! (Y/N) was checking me out!" sang Chanyeol. I threw the ice pack at him and it hit him squarely in the face. "Ow...that hurt.." whined chanyeol , looking at me like a sad puppy.
"C'mon before we get late to school," I said , grabbing my bag and leaving before he could start teasing me again.
(At school)
I had a splitting headache. I took an aspirin but it didn't make it any better and I was alone in the lunchroom because Chanyeol had gone somewhere. As I made my way to get food, someone yelled "Yah (Y/N)!"
It was Yoon Dae, the most popular girl in my section. What did she want? "Yah! I know exactly what you're trying to do, you little weasel! " she spat at me. "Um...I'm not sure I understand-" I started, she interrupted. "You're always hanging around Chanyeol. You desperately want him to notice you, don't you? But he'll never fall for someone like you- and you obviously have ulterior motives. So STAY AWAY FROM HIM!"
"Don't be stupid. Chanyeol is my best friend and nothing you say will change that!" I said angrily. Before I could speak further, Yoon Dae's devoted gang of friends started crowding around me.
"Yah! How dare you talk to Yoon Dae like that!" one hissed. "You need to be taught a lesson," another one snapped as she shoved me.
All eyes turned in our direction and Yoon Dae's friends kept pouring out strings of abuse at me, pressing in from all directions. My glossophobia kicked in and my throat started closing up. I struggled to say something, say anything, to defend myself but no words came out. My head was pounding with pain and the world started to tilt and sway. Yoon Dae's smug face swam in front of me for a moment and then, everything went black.
