Arlene From Applebee's

June was lying in bed listening to Britney Spears album Circus (Deluxe Version).

She had begged her dad for the album the minute it came out back in 2008.

And of course Marcus being the great father he was, he immediately went out and got it. He woke up early and made sure he made it to the store when they opened so he could get one for her before all the CDs were all sold out.

June was extremely grateful for her dad. Her mom left a few months after she was born. She came around once or twice when she was a baby but not much and eventually not at all. Her dad told her that her mom was the only person he's ever actually fallen in love with.

One of the reasons she didn't like her mom was cause she left without an explanation. She's never met her mom but she hurt her dad and that was enough of a reason for her.

She was texting a guy she met on Facebook. He was on her suggested friends as someone she may knew and she thought he was cute so she sent him a friend request.

Fortunately for her, he thought that same thing and accepted the friend request. And yeah, yeah she knew, don't talk to strangers on the internet, but sometimes you have to take a risk and that's what she did.

She heard the phone ringing and turned her radio down and walked out of her room to answer it.

"Hello?" She held the phone to her ear, "Hey, is Marcus Higgins there?" A man's voice came through

"Maybe. Who's asking? And why are you calling?" She asked

She knew her father hooked up a lot, and some of those times the women had boyfriends. It wasn't any of her business what her father did. But she didn't want one of those guys to end up fighting her dad cause her dad was a big scaredy cat so she knew he wasn't winning any fights.

"I'm an old friend. From his old basketball team. Coach buzzer past away." The man said

Her face dropped. She had never met her dad's old coach but she heard stories so she knew the coach meant a lot to Marcus.

"Oh...uh yeah he's right here, hold on." I said and walked to her dad's room and knocked, "Dad, I'm coming in." She waited a couple second for him and whoever he had in there to get decent and then opened the door.

"Someone is on the phone for you." She said "Who?" Marcus asked

She shrugged, "I don't know. One of your old teammates from basketball in middle school. He said your coach just passed." She told him softly

Marcus sat up and slid to the side of his bed and reached for the phone. She handed it to him.

"Hey...What happened to him?" Marcus asked into the phone, "God, that's rough, buddy." Marcus sigh, "Who's making the funeral arrangements?"

"Oh, his niece? She must be devastated. Hey, is she still hot, do you know?" Marcus asked

A foot shot out and kicked his arm, "Don't make me lose my temper, Marcus." A woman's voice came muffled from the sheets

June looked at the lump under the blanket confused.

Marcus looked down at the tattoo on the woman's leg, "What?" He mumbled "Hey, if me and my daughter don't make it to the funeral, tell the police it was Arlene from Applebee's." Marcus mumbled into the phone

After a second he hung up, "Does this mean we can't go to Applebees anymore?" June asked

Marcus gave her a look, "I'm leaving." She said knowing the look and left immediately
