Chapter 19
06:23, 23 January 2025As they turned to walk down the aisle together, Alex felt the weight of the moment settle over her. Every step forward felt like walking into a new chapter, a future filled with so many unknowns but so much love. Chan's grip on her hand was steady, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a silent promise.
Once they reached the end of the aisle, they were ushered into a private side room where they could have a brief moment to themselves before the reception. Alex barely had a chance to take a breath before Chan pulled her in for another kiss—this one deeper, more intense, filled with the relief of finally calling her his wife.
"I love you," he murmured against her lips. "So much."
Alex smiled, resting her hands against his chest. "I love you too, husband."
Chan groaned dramatically. "Oh my God, say it again."
She chuckled. "Husband."
His face lit up with pure happiness. "Best thing I've ever heard."
Before they could get too lost in each other, Beth poked her head in with a grin. "Hate to break up the love fest, but you two have pictures to take before the reception starts."
Alex sighed but nodded, giving Chan's hand one last squeeze before they followed Beth back out into the grand ballroom for the formal photos. The bridal party gathered around them in various formations, the photographer directing them with ease. Felix couldn't stop wiping at his eyes, IN kept cracking jokes to lighten the mood, and Hyunjin, standing proudly beside Alex, whispered reminders for her to take breaks when needed.
Between shots, Chan kept sneaking glances at Alex, his expression full of so much love it made her heart ache in the best way. She could feel the weight of the day settling in, but she pushed through, knowing the reception was next—and with it, the special meet and greet with the STAYs who had been invited to share in their special day.
After the last round of pictures, Alex and Chan had a brief moment to freshen up before heading into the reception hall, which had been transformed into a breathtaking scene of soft candlelight and delicate floral arrangements.
As Alex stood outside the reception hall, she could hear the murmurs and excited chatter from inside. The anticipation buzzed in the air, and despite the ache settling into her lower back, she straightened her shoulders and smiled at Chan beside her. He looked down at her, his eyes filled with nothing but love and concern.
"You sure you're okay?" he asked quietly, his hand lingering at the small of her back, offering support without making it obvious.
Alex nodded, offering him a reassuring smile. "I'm fine. Just... let's get through the first dance before I start fading."
Chan chuckled, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Got it, love. Let's make it unforgettable."
The moment the grand doors swung open, a collective gasp rippled through the room. Alex took a deep breath as they stepped inside, arm in arm, the grand entrance music swelling around them. The applause was deafening, and Alex couldn't help but laugh softly as they made their way toward the dance floor, the spotlight following their every move.
Chan leaned down to whisper, "You look absolutely breathtaking, by the way."
Alex squeezed his hand. "You're not so bad yourself, Mr. Bang."
The lights dimmed, and the opening chords of "Waiting For Us" filled the room. Alex's heart swelled at the familiar melody, and as Chan gently pulled her into his arms, everything else faded away. Their bodies moved in perfect synchrony, swaying softly under the warm glow of the chandeliers.
Chan held her close, his hand resting protectively on the small of her back, his eyes locked onto hers. "I still can't believe I get to call you my wife," he murmured.
Alex smiled up at him, resting her head against his chest. "You better believe it. No backing out now."
A soft chuckle rumbled through his chest. "Never."
As the song continued, Alex felt herself relaxing into Chan's embrace, the exhaustion of the day momentarily forgotten.
As the music swelled around them, Chan's voice—soft yet filled with emotion—whispered into her ear as he began to sing along.
"가려진 시간 속에 뛰는 난 그대가 보고 싶다..."
Alex's breath hitched, her arms tightening around him instinctively. The world around them seemed to melt away, leaving only the two of them swaying under the soft glow of the chandeliers. Chan's voice, warm and soothing, wrapped around her like a blanket, filling every corner of her heart.
"가까이 다가오는 겨울 끝의 light 하루만 더 견뎌본다..."
His voice cracked slightly with emotion, and Alex looked up at him, tears pooling in her eyes. Seeing Chan so open, so vulnerable, singing to her in front of all their loved ones, made her heart swell with an overwhelming love she could barely contain. She smiled softly, her fingers brushing against the back of his neck as she whispered, "I love you so much."
Chan's lips curved into a watery smile, his forehead gently pressing against hers as he continued, the lyrics carrying more meaning now than they ever had before.
"너와 나 피어난다 불어온다 그리웠던 너와의 만남..."
The words resonated deep within her, speaking to all the struggles they had overcome, the moments of doubt and uncertainty, and the joy of finally standing here together. Alex could hear a few sniffles from the bridal party, and she spotted Beth dabbing at her eyes, mouthing, "I hate you both," making Alex chuckle softly.
Chan pulled back just enough to gaze into her eyes, his thumb brushing along her cheek. His voice grew stronger as he sang the chorus, his grip on her hand tightening as if he never wanted to let go.
"I'm here, always..."
Alex felt the tears spill over, unable to hold them back anymore. Chan kissed her temple softly, his voice unwavering as he continued to sing, pouring every ounce of love he had for her into each note. She could feel his heartbeat against her cheek, steady and sure, grounding her in the moment.
"때로는 두려웠어 다신 오지 않을 것 같아서..."
He leaned closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered the next part just for her, the weight of his promise making her chest tighten with emotion.
"두 손 꼭 잡은 채 그 어떤 순간이 덮쳐 와도 널 놓지 않을게..."
Alex let out a small, shaky laugh, whispering back, "I know. I know you won't."
The song continued, and Chan guided her effortlessly around the floor, his voice carrying through the air like a vow, a promise that neither of them would ever let go. The crowd watched in silence, enchanted by the raw love radiating between them.
"길고 길었던 기다림 끝에 차가운 공기는 끝이고..."
Alex closed her eyes, letting the words and the music wash over her, feeling Chan's love in every movement, every breath. She thought about the journey they had been on, the long nights, the tears, the laughter, the hope that had carried them here. And now, standing in his arms, with their baby growing inside her, she knew that everything had been worth it.
As the song reached its final verse, Chan's voice softened, barely above a whisper.
"온몸으로 안아줄게..."
He pulled her even closer, his lips pressing a lingering kiss to her forehead as the song faded into silence. The applause was almost immediate, a mixture of cheers and sniffles from their friends and family, but Alex couldn't pull away just yet. She stayed in his arms, her face buried in his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart.
Chan tilted her chin up gently, his eyes filled with nothing but love. "You okay?" he asked softly.
Alex nodded, wiping a tear away with a soft laugh. "Perfect," she whispered.
The moment lingered between them, the crowd still clapping as they held onto each other for just a little longer. Alex felt safe, cherished, and overwhelmed with gratitude that this man—her husband—loved her with such a fierce, unwavering devotion.
Chan leaned down, kissing her softly before whispering against her lips, "Let's go sit down before you pass out on me."
Alex chuckled, nodding. "Good idea."
Hand in hand, they made their way to their seats at the head table, the bridal party following closely behind them. As soon as Alex sat down, she let out a deep breath, feeling the weight lift from her aching feet. Beth, ever the attentive maid of honor, slid a glass of water in front of her without a word, shooting her a knowing look.
"Drink," Beth muttered under her breath, her lips barely moving.
Alex smiled gratefully and took a sip, feeling the coolness soothe her dry throat. Chan, sitting beside her, watched her with careful eyes, his hand resting on her thigh beneath the table, offering silent support.
As the dinner continued, speeches were made, laughter filled the room, and Alex found herself sneaking glances at Chan every few minutes. Every time she caught his gaze, he gave her a soft smile that made her heart flutter.
Just as Alex was beginning to feel like she could finally relax, the coordinator approached with a gentle reminder. "Mr. and Mrs. Bang, it's time for the meet and greet."
Alex took a deep breath, steeling herself as she exchanged a glance with Chan. He gave her a reassuring squeeze under the table, his thumb brushing against her thigh in a silent reminder that they were in this together. The thought of meeting their fans face-to-face, sharing this intimate moment with them, was both exhilarating and a little nerve-wracking—especially with the secret she was carrying beneath the layers of delicate fabric.
Beth leaned in, lowering her voice. "Hyunjin and I will keep things moving, make sure no one's lingering too long. If you need a break, just signal me."
Alex nodded, grateful for her best friend's protective presence. "Thanks, Beth. I'll be fine."
Hyunjin flashed a grin from where he stood a few feet away, looking effortlessly stylish in his suit, arms crossed as he kept an eye on the eager fans waiting patiently in line. "Don't worry, baby girl. I'll handle any emotional meltdowns."
Alex rolled her eyes but smiled, knowing that his teasing was his way of helping her stay relaxed. "I'll hold you to that, Jinnie."
With a final deep breath, Alex and Chan stood from their seats, smoothing their outfits before turning to the line of fans who had been handpicked to share in this day. As they approached the first group, a collective gasp rippled through the waiting STAYs, their eyes wide with awe and excitement.
"Hi!" Chan greeted warmly, his smile lighting up the entire room. "Thank you so much for coming."
The first fan—a young woman clutching a small gift bag—covered her mouth, her eyes welling with tears. "You both look... so beautiful," she whispered, visibly overwhelmed.
Alex reached out gently, offering a warm smile. "Thank you so much. We're so happy you could be here."
The fan handed Alex the gift bag with trembling hands. "I—I made this for you. It's something small, but I hope you like it."
Alex took it with a grateful smile, ignoring the curious glance from Chan as she squeezed the fan's hand gently. "That means so much to me. Thank you."
Chan, ever the comforting presence, leaned in slightly. "We're so grateful to have fans like you in our lives. Your support means everything."
As the line moved on, more gifts were handed to them—letters, handmade crafts, even a few framed photos of moments from their journey as a couple. Each interaction brought a new wave of emotions, but Alex remained steady, buoyed by Chan's presence beside her and the love radiating from their fans.
Every now and then, Beth would intervene, gently ushering the fans along to keep things on track, while Hyunjin kept his watchful eye, occasionally swooping in to deflect overly excited STAYs before Alex could feel overwhelmed.
At one point, a younger fan with teary eyes looked up at Alex and whispered, "You're so strong, unnie. I hope to have love like yours someday."
Alex felt her throat tighten, and she smiled softly, bending down just slightly. "Love finds you when you least expect it," she said gently. "Just be true to yourself, and it'll happen."
Chan's hand found hers, squeezing in silent support as they continued through the line, greeting fans, laughing at their excitement, and taking short breaks when needed. Alex could feel the exhaustion creeping in, her feet aching beneath the weight of her dress and the added strain of her pregnancy, but she pushed through, knowing how much this moment meant to them all.
Finally, after what felt like hours but had flown by in a blink, they reached the last group of fans. As they said their final goodbyes and the crowd dispersed, Alex let out a long breath, leaning into Chan slightly. "Can I eat now?" she murmured, exhaustion clear in her voice.
Chan chuckled softly, wrapping his arm around her waist and pressing a gentle kiss to her temple. "Yes, love. You've more than earned it."
Beth appeared at her side almost immediately, a knowing look in her eyes. "I've already got a plate waiting for you at the table. Sit down before I make you."
Alex shot her a grateful look, sighing in relief. "You're the best."
"I know," Beth said smugly, guiding Alex back to the sweetheart table while Chan trailed closely behind, never letting his hand leave the small of her back.
Hyunjin followed them, his sharp gaze sweeping over the reception hall with the quiet protectiveness that only he could manage. "You did amazing, baby girl," he murmured as he pulled out her chair for her. "But you're sitting your butt down for the next hour, understood?"
Alex rolled her eyes but didn't argue. "I'm not going to argue."
She sank into her seat with a grateful sigh, her fingers tracing the edge of the beautifully arranged plate in front of her. The warm aroma of food filled the air, and for the first time since the day had started, Alex allowed herself to relax—just a little. She felt Chan settle beside her, his hand instantly finding hers under the table, his thumb stroking gentle circles over her knuckles.
"Eat, love," Chan murmured softly, his eyes full of concern as he watched her. "You're doing amazing, but I need you to take care of yourself too."
Alex smiled tiredly, squeezing his hand in response. "I know. Just... taking it all in." She glanced around the room, watching as guests mingled, laughter and music creating a warm hum of celebration.
Beth, still hovering, placed a bottle of water in front of Alex and gave her a pointed look. "Hydrate, eat, and then I'll let you enjoy your wedding in peace."
Alex chuckled, lifting the bottle obediently. "You guys are worse than my doctors."
Hyunjin, standing nearby with his arms crossed, smirked. "That's because we love you, and we know you like to push yourself."
Chan leaned over, brushing a soft kiss against Alex's temple. "What he said. Now, let's eat before they start force-feeding you."
Alex sighed, relenting as she picked up her fork and took a small bite. The warm flavors melted in her mouth, grounding her in the moment as she listened to the chatter around the room. Despite the whirlwind of the day, she felt safe—surrounded by love, by family, by friends who truly cared about her well-being.
The gentle clinking of a glass echoed through the ballroom, drawing everyone's attention toward the head table. Beth stood with a confident smile, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she held her champagne flute high.
Alex groaned softly, leaning into Chan. "Here we go," she muttered under her breath, and he chuckled, giving her a reassuring squeeze.
Beth cleared her throat dramatically, glancing around the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, if I could have your attention, please! As maid of honor, I have been given the terrifying responsibility of giving a speech tonight. And let me just say... I have so much blackmail material on Alex that I could ruin her in an instant."
Laughter erupted throughout the room, and Alex covered her face with her hands. "Beth..."
Beth grinned. "Don't worry, don't worry. I'll save the real dirt for later." She turned more serious then, her eyes softening as she looked at Alex. "In all seriousness, I've known Alex for a long time, and in that time, I've seen her go through some of the toughest things life can throw at a person. And through it all, she's remained strong, kind, and just downright incredible."
Alex swallowed, tears pricking at her eyes.
Beth smiled gently. "But, you know, strength isn't just about standing alone. It's about knowing when to lean on the people who love you. And Chan, I have to say—thank you for being that person for her. For loving her, for standing by her side, for showing her that she doesn't have to carry everything on her own." She paused, glancing at Alex with a knowing smile. "And let's be real, you're probably the only person stubborn enough to match her."
The crowd laughed again, and Chan leaned closer to Alex, whispering, "She's not wrong."
Beth's voice grew softer. "Alex, you deserve every bit of happiness in this room tonight. And I know that this is just the beginning of an even more beautiful journey for you both." She raised her glass. "So here's to Alex and Chan—the most incredible couple I know. May your love always be as strong, passionate, and slightly chaotic as it is today. Cheers!"
"Cheers!" the crowd echoed, raising their glasses in celebration.
Alex wiped at her eyes, overwhelmed but smiling. She reached out and pulled Beth into a tight hug. "I love you, you know that?"
Beth hugged her back, whispering, "I love you too. Now drink your water."
As Beth sat back down, Hyunjin stood next, the crowd immediately buzzing with anticipation. He adjusted his suit jacket, his expression composed, but Alex could see the emotion lurking beneath his usual cool demeanor.
Hyunjin took a deep breath, letting his eyes scan the room before landing on Alex. A slow smile tugged at the corners of his lips, and he tapped his champagne flute lightly with his fork, signaling for silence.
"Alright," he started, his deep voice carrying effortlessly through the reception hall. "I had this whole speech planned out. I was going to make jokes, embarrass Chan a little bit, and remind Alex that she has questionable taste in men." The crowd chuckled, and Chan groaned playfully, shaking his head. "But," Hyunjin continued, his expression softening, "standing here, looking at the two of you... I realized I don't need to say much, because anyone who knows you can see it. The love you share—it's real, and it's beautiful."
Alex felt her throat tighten, her hand instinctively reaching for Chan's under the table. Chan gave it a comforting squeeze, his eyes never leaving Hyunjin.
Hyunjin smiled softly, shifting his weight. "I've known Chan for years now, and let me tell you, he's one of the most stubborn, hard-working, and caring people I've ever met. And Alex..." He paused, his gaze locking with hers. "Alex is everything I never knew I needed in my life. She's strength, she's love, and she's family."
A soft murmur rippled through the crowd, and Alex blinked rapidly, her free hand resting lightly over her stomach. Hyunjin noticed the movement and softened his voice even more. "The thing about Alex and Chan is... they don't just love each other. They lift each other. They fight for each other. They make each other better in ways that most people only dream of."
Chan's jaw clenched as he tried to keep himself composed, his eyes shining under the soft lights. Hyunjin glanced down at his glass, his voice laced with a rare vulnerability. "Alex, I know we like to joke around, but you're one of the most important people in my life. And Chan, you're lucky to have her—but we both know you're just as incredible in your own right." He smirked, shooting Chan a teasing glance. "Though we all know she's the real boss in this relationship."
Laughter filled the room, lightening the emotional moment. Hyunjin took a deep breath and lifted his glass higher. "To Alex and Chan—two people who deserve all the happiness this world has to offer. And to a future that's going to be just as bright as this moment right here."
"To Alex and Chan!" the guests echoed, raising their glasses high.
Alex swallowed the lump in her throat, wiping at the tears that slipped free. Hyunjin met her gaze with a small, knowing smile before stepping over and pulling her into a gentle hug. "I love you, baby girl," he whispered so only she could hear. "Always."
"I love you too, Jinnie," Alex whispered back, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before he pulled away.
Chan stood next to Alex, his chest rising and falling as he tried to control the emotions still threatening to spill over. Hyunjin turned to him next, pulling him into a tight hug that lingered longer than it probably should have in front of their guests.
"I love you too, hyung," Hyunjin murmured, his voice just loud enough for Chan to hear. "I mean it."
Chan's arms tightened around him for a moment before he pulled back slightly, eyes glistening with unshed tears. He let out a small laugh, rubbing his hand over his face. "I know, Jinnie. I love you too, man. Thanks for... everything."
Hyunjin smirked, reaching up to adjust Chan's boutonniere with an affectionate pat on his shoulder. "You're stuck with me now. No take-backs."
Chan laughed, his dimples making an appearance as he shook his head. "Yeah, yeah. I wouldn't have it any other way."
Alex watched the exchange, her heart swelling with love for both of them. They had worked so hard to maintain their relationship in secret, keeping their private life away from the public eye, but in moments like this, she felt the undeniable strength of their bond. She reached for Chan's hand, squeezing it gently, and he glanced down at her with that soft, adoring expression she loved so much.
As the evening continued, Alex felt herself relaxing more. Between bites of food, she stole glances at Chan, her heart full with the realization that they were truly, finally here—married, together, and ready to face whatever life had in store for them.
The rest of the reception passed in a whirlwind of toasts, laughter, and tender moments. The bridal party ensured Alex never overexerted herself, sneaking her water and helping her find moments to sit down and rest when needed. Every time Chan noticed her growing tired, his hand found hers under the table, grounding her in his presence.
When it was time for the cake cutting, Chan made a grand show of feeding Alex the first bite, only to have her playfully smudge a bit of frosting onto his nose, making the entire room burst into laughter. Chan wiped it off with an exaggerated pout, only for Alex to lean in and kiss it away, earning a round of "awws" from their guests.
As the evening wound down and guests began to take their leave, Chan leaned into Alex's ear, his breath warm against her skin. "Ready to call it a night, Mrs. Bang?"
She smiled, resting her head on his shoulder for a brief moment. "More than ready, Mr. Bang."
