11 SICK DAY
17:05, 6 August 2025KAMINARI STARED at the floor, counting the shoes left at the front door.
Piecing together your missing shoes and your lack of presence in the bathroom, he gathered that you had left.
At first, he originally thought you were either having 'girl issues', or taking the shit of your life due to your duration of time spent in the bathroom.
After the return of Sero and Kirishima, he grew concerned and ventured around his house to check. He even sent you a couple messages asking where you were, and if you wanted to play more mortal kombat, or eat pizza, or quite literally anything to pique your interest.
He pulled his phone out from his pocket, his fingers drumming against the device as he opened the messenger app again.
Delivered.
Great.
With a sigh, he dug his phone back into his pocket, a little aggravated. Not at you, at himself. Why would you just off and leave like that? It didn't make sense. Something was up, and it was obvious.
"Hey, Kaminari?" Mina's voice sunk into his ears, and he snapped his head around to face her. She peaked around the corner, her eyes travelling around the room, as if searching for something. "Where's Y/N at? She's not in the bathroom anymore."
Kaminari stared at her blankly for a moment, before he looked back down at the five shoes, the sixth one missing. "Uh... she left."
"WHAT?!" Mina practically exclaimed, stepping into the room fully. "Huh? Why?! Where did she say she went off to?"
"Well, she didn't say... anything." He sighed in reply, thinking in his spot for answers. "She said she needed to go to the bathroom, and instead, just left. I texted her but I'm still in delivered."
His explanation was met with a moment of silence. Mina's stare bore into him blankly, and it was somehow more eerie than a cold-hearted glare. "Kaminari,.." she started, her voice laced with a tinge of strain. "Are you an idiot or a total jerk?! Gosh, you're actually such a dickwad!"
Kaminari was immediately taken aback by her sudden bombardment of insults. "Woah—what?! What did I do?!" He yelped back in defence, although it all clicked for a second. She wouldn't have just left. Obviously something made her leave.
Was it actually his fault?
"Ugh—you're so useless." Mina mumbled, immediately grabbing her phone and wandering off as she meticulously began typing messages.
She left him to his own consuming thoughts. He felt guilty. Although he wasn't sure what he did, nor what she said, however, he felt guilty. Like, if he had upset her in some way, he wouldn't forgive himself for it. He'd beat himself up over it again and again.
Because she was a great friend.
A great friend.
f r i e n d .
friend.
"Oh, she replied to my message!" Mina then called out, snapping Kaminari out from his realisation. "She just felt sick and had to go home. Don't worry about it, that's my bad!" She said, sticking her tongue out at him with a grin.
"Oh..." he replied, still slightly lost in thought. She just felt sick. Even that irked him.
Mina quickly left the room entirely, her fingers spamming the screen of her phone as she texted you hurriedly. She was fuming at Kaminari, and she hurt for you. But most of all, she blamed herself for letting this happen.
She knew, from the very start, that this was a special time for you. Your late romance side was blooming, and at the best time as well, high school. She wanted this love to continue, she wanted to see the two of you dating, and to see that same love sick dreamy look on your face like you had seen on her many times before.
It wasn't meant to go like this.
Hearing you say you were done, that you hated boys all over again after everything,
That wasn't how it was meant to go. And she knew it.
She desperately wanted to fix this. So when everyone went home, she practically spent the whole night begging you to rethink your decision. She was trying to reshape your mind, trying to fix everything.
But all you did was push that you were sick. And eventually, you just stopped responding. Your excuse wasn't entirely a lie. It rained on your way back home, and you ended up drenched with an unlucky cold.
—————
It was a cold Sunday, and all you wanted to do was curl up in your bed and sulk. You didn't want to think about what had happened the other day, so you kept yourself distracted with rom cons, anime's, anything to keep your mind off the subject. But every sappy couple just reminded you of your own failed experience, and it drove you insane.
Mina didn't know what to do, she knew that turning up unannounced was just simply rude, and she didn't want to push herself into your private life. But she cared. And she wasn't about to let you go through your first heartbreak alone.
She gripped the bag of cheeseburgers in her hand a little tighter, walking down the street to find your house. She turned the corner—before she halted—and immediately stepped back and hid behind a bush.
She stared wide eyed at the sight in front of her, completely puzzled by the reason why Kaminari stood out side your front door, bag in hand, finger hesitating over the door bell.
He wasn't exactly the type to go out his way for someone like this, considering how lazy he was.
But she didn't stop him as he finally pressed the button after what seemed like ages.
It took a while for you to stumble out of your bed and head over to your door. Expecting Mina to be on the other side, you kept your pyjamas on and gripped the door handle, hair tied up lazily. However, as soon as the entrance was pushed open, it was slammed shut.
The moment she caught eye of that same blonde hair, his cheeky grin, and the bag he held up in his hand, she felt everything come back to her again.
"Uh—Y/N? Hello—" he spoke up once you slammed the door shut. "Mina told me you were sick, so I brought some stuff for you. I got uh—" he continued to speak, and you could hear as the bag rustled whilst he checked its contents. "Some medicine, obviously, and uh... some ingredients for soup my mum makes me when I'm sick. It works, trust me. And if you want any like, pizza or something, just tell me and I'll order it."
Your heart fluttered, and you meant fluttered. Why? Why has this stupid idiot always got your tummy doing backflips? Even when you hated him the most.
"Oh...! You really shouldn't have." You chuckled awkwardly, hesitantly pushing the door open again. You knew it was rude to just shoo him away after he bought you all this, but you didn't exactly want him inside your house.
"Why? You're a great friend!" He grinned, before he walked straight past your open hand, and stepped into your house.
Fuck.
"Woah! Haha! You're in my... house!... nice." You voiced awkwardly, and you immediately fumbled around behind him as he explored the place.
"Your place is sick!" He commented, finally making his way over to the kitchen. He placed the bag down and turned on the kettle, before he removed the contents and placed them on the counter for you to see. "I also got some tea, only if you like tea of course."
"I love tea." You replied quietly, staring down at the items in confusion. You watched as he stepped around your kitchen, boiling the water, making you soup and tea. Giving you medicine. Why? Would he do this for just anyone? Were you really just anyone to him?
"Why would you do all this?" You asked, staring at the back of his head. "I mean... like, going out of your way to make me feel better."
"Because you're a great fri—" he paused, cutting himself off with his own breath. His original answer was curt, yet, he knew it wasn't right. "...because I care." He stated, his tone more quieter yet firmer and serious. "About you, I mean."
You stayed quiet after that, and merely watching him work. The soup he made was absolutely terrible, although you gobbled up his efforts in one go, telling him it was delicious. The tea wasn't too bad, and the medicine helped with your stuffy throat.
Standing at the door, he faced you in awkward silence. His eyes remained on the side, unsure of what to say.
"So, uh..." you both said at the same time.
"Sorry—! Uh, you go first-" you both said in sync once more, and an awkward giggle followed.
"Right, well... I'll go now." He stated, shooting you finger guns before taking a step back and opening the door.
"Kaminari!" You called began he could shut it behind him. "Thanks. I appreciate it." You sent him a small smile, to which he returned whole heartedly.
"Anytime." He replied softly, before he shut the door behind him and walked off.
Your heart thumped in your chest, cheeks heating up entirely. Your hands immediately grabbed your phone to inform Mina of the ground breaking news. She didn't tell you that she already knew, she only typed shocked replies in return, eating the cheeseburgers on the train on the way back to her house.
She wasn't joking when she said she was going to make this work. And she had another plan right up her sleeve.
