Chapter 23
20:14, 19 April 2015And now they knew.
They knew why I could not get to the leader of the Daria, why I could not kill him when I had the chance, why he knew things about me that no-one else did, why this vendetta had gone on for so long.
It is because the one who is trying to kill me is my own brother.
The day I found out about my twin brother's supposed death was the day Alex turned into the monster he truly was. My father realised and called me, telling me that my life was in danger therefore we had to leave America. The Daria staged the gas explosion and my father ran in to tell me Alex had died in order to make is seem more convincing.
It was on a class trip to a history museum that Alex came across the ancient scroll that portrayed the prophecy. He became infatuated with it, convinced I was the child stated in it and, after a year of obsessive research, he eventually met a member of the Daria. When he turned sixteen, the legal age you had to be before you could join, he became a member. I am not sure at what point he turned against me, but that day in the library was when he showed his true colours. Two years later he became the leader and ever since, he has tried to kill me. I suppose he finally succeeded.
The pain was overwhelming. The bullet had impaired my abdomen but the blood coming out was too rapid to be stopped. I also suspected there was some internal bleeding. At best, I had mere minutes left.
"Hanna, don't leave, not now" Spencer sounded broken which was why I had to be strong, despite the fact I was dying.
"Spencer sweetie" I whispered as my eyes drooped a little.
"I love you" he whispered back and a smile spread across my lips.
"I have waited ten years to hear you say that"
"You can wait a little longer" he urged "You can wait for help to come, you're going to live Hanna so you can wait for me" Spencer's eyes were swimming in tears now.
"I will" I promised and his face lifted slightly "I will wait for you Spencer. But promise you will do the same" my eyes closed slowly "Promise" I whispered as I felt the final threads of life draining from me, but not before Spencer said the last thing I will ever hear.
"I'll wait"
