Chapter 21
00:20, 6 January 2015I knew they would find me, it was easy, simple.
They had already killed Johnny in an attempt to get to me, I would not let them do the same to Spencer and his team.
“Hanna stay here, we’re going to find out what’s going on” Spencer kissed my forehead then followed Agent Hotchner out of the room as they attempted to stop the two Daria members sent to find me.
This was Agent Hotchner’s office, there was bound to be a gun hidden somewhere. The team were stupid to leave me alone but that’s exactly what they did. It took me mere minutes to find the semi-automatic mambo pistol stashed in the panel under Agent Hotchner’s desk and only seconds more to load it.
I carefully slipped the gun into the back of my jeans, wrote a note stating I was sorry and placed it where the gun was hidden. I checked the locks on the windows then broke them and snuck quietly out.
I have been running all my life, but this is where it ends. It’s where it would have always ended. I had hoped that Agent Gideon would have been smart enough to realise my actions over the past two day were that of a suicidal person but I’m not sure he has quite got there yet.
I walked swiftly up to the pay phone, tapped in the number and waited for him to pick up.
“Hello?”
“Hello” I answered.
“Ah, Hanna, how lovely it is to hear your voice”
“Where are you?” I asked.
“You already know the answer to that my dear”
“I am coming voluntarily, ask your men to leave Spencer and his team alone, you kill them, I kill you” I stated simply.
“Now, we both know that last part is not quite true now is it?”
“Fine” I inhaled quietly “I have a gun, I could kill myself”
“No!” it came out as a panicked shout but he composed himself.
“Hm” I smiled slightly to myself.
“There is no need for that my dear, I will call them off”
I put the phone down.
The building was old, warn down and crumbling. I slowly walked towards the entrance. It had taken a fair while to get here.
I first had to find a car that would take me to the airport without arousing suspicion amongst Spencer’s team and then buy a last minute ticket to Las Vegas with my emergency credit card, one Garcia wouldn’t be able to trace, before getting on a plan and flying to my story’s end.
However I was here now, stood outside the abandoned library that was once a refuge for Spencer and I. Slowly, as to not disturb the rocks, I stepped over the debris that used to be the entrance before heading inside.
“Put that down before you poke someone’s eye out” I sighed and elbowed the guard who had tried to stop me with the pointy end of his golden staff.
“Do excuse the formalities, simply a safety precaution you understand” the Darian leader stood from his chair with a sick smile on his face and dismissed the guard who was still bent over, nursing his new bruise.
“Of course” I smiled back “We would not want anyone to think we’re not following health and safety now”
He chuckled “You have a gun, I believe?”
“Obviously” I replied and pulled Agent Hotchner’s gun out of the back of my jeans.
“You did not honestly think they could protect you did you?” he smiled as he gestured for one of his followers to collect my gun for inspection “Glasses, and his ragtag team of failed psychiatrists slash police officers. How could they possibly stand a chance against fate”
“Spencer” I said as I glared at him “His name is not Glasses, it’s Spencer”
“Oh dear” he frowned “You’re still in love with him aren’t you?”
I didn’t reply.
“Shame you will never know if he feels the same”
Suddenly two Daria members grabbed my shoulders and pushed me to the ground so I was on my knees.
“This is your rightful place Hanna” the leader stared down at me. I made a move for the knife hidden in his shoe but he gripped my wrist “You are so predictable. You forget, I know you better than anyone”
“Fuck off” I smirked back up at him.
“Tut tut Hanna, swearing is a very unattractive quality” he sighed and turned so his back was to me.
‘I could kill him’ I thought as I stared at my enemy who had turned his back on me. There was a follower to my right who still had Agent Hotchner’s gun in her hand. I could take it and shoot the man who has made my life ridiculously hard since that day in the library.
Only I knew if I did, I would never be free.
So I had to let the Darian leader kill me.
“This resembles Harry Potter, don’t you think?” he said as he continued to walk away from me “You know, in order to save your friends, you must die. It’s fate; it’s what the prophecy states”
“I do not possess a single quality which should help destroy the world, you know that. You just want me dead” I replied.
“I certainly want you dead, that much is true” he turned back to face me, the sick smile stick plastered on his face.
“They are coming for you, whatever happens, however you think this will end you are wrong. They are coming for you” I promised and stared intently at him.
“Stand” he ordered. I refused “I said stand!” he shouted and the two followers on either side of me dragged me up.
“I thought my rightful place was on my knees?” I raised my eyebrows a little at him with a smirk.
“Yes. But there is a section of the prophecy which states you must be in a position to fight back whilst I kill you and, well it is hardly a fair fight if you’re on the floor” he smirked back.
After I brushed myself down I took three steps away from him, towards the left wall “Well, go on then. Kill me”
“It was harder than I had anticipated, finding you” he completely ignored me “We tried everything: we destroyed your family, alienated you from your only friend, tried to burn you, drown you, we even tried emotional torture”
I grimaced as I remembered the video of what Tobias Hankle had done to Spencer.
“Turns out all I had do was threaten the glorious Agent Reid”
“Dr.” I stared at him “It’s Dr. Reid now”
“I do not care” he shrugged before nodding to one of the guards to his right. Said guard walked towards his leader and held out what looked to be a very old gun “It’s from World War 1, it was found with the prophecy. I had to have it stolen from a museum, a man was imprisoned but it was worth it” he turned to gun over in his hand.
“It’s beautiful” I replied with a hint of sarcasm in my tone.
“Enough” the leader suddenly yelled “I have had enough of these games you play Hanna-Rose Black. Your time is up. I hereby sentence you to death in order to prevent your future crimes”
“So be it” I whispered and closed my eyes.
Bang.
