Chapter 13

"Hey sleepyhead." I say to Jake as he walks downstairs. 

He smiles as Kelly hands him his breakfast. He's been with us for 3 months now but it feels like he's been here way longer. He just fits right in. As he starts eating I say, "Kelly and I have to go to work now. You can have a friend over if you'd like, just make sure to text me and let me know which friend."

He nods and Kelly and I grab our bags and leave. When we're halfway to work he says, "You're going to be a great Mom, I can already tell."

"Thanks. I do feel bad for him though. He's just a kid."

"I agree. But have you ever thought of us fostering him?"

"Yes I have but then I remind myself that it would be for at least another 4 years and in 4 years I want to be married to you and maybe have a child of our own." 

"Really?"

"Do you think I'm joking?"

He smiles widely and chuckles. I can tell that he's thinking the same thing. When we arrive everyone else is there trying to finish their chores early in the shift. Kelly and I start doing ours as well but 30 seconds in the bell goes.

"Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Industrial Gas Explosion, 5231 42A Street."

We quickly gear up and hop into the truck. When we arrive we get everyone far away from the building and near the ambulance while Kelly and Casey rescue 2 guys from the roof. When everyone is safely on the ground we learn that the next ambo is still 5 minutes out. 

Casey and Severide step in and tell chief that we can take some people. We load them in quickly and then I start driving. When we arrive a few of us stay outside to wait while everyone else goes inside. We wait for a few minutes until all of a sudden an explosion shakes the ground. 

It came right from the ER, where everyone else is at.

Anyway, I'm sharing what I have so far with my English teacher tomorrow, so fingers crossed she likes it! Wish me luck!

I also just wanted to say thanks to my Dawson. She knows who she is but you guys have no idea how helpful she is. She gives me advice and pushes me to update faster. She's the best Dawson a Shay could ask for!
