Chapter 39: A wonderful night

03:07, 16 August 2021

Lina's POV

Four months later.

"Rossi!" I yell and fire my gun. The UnSub—that was standing behind Rossi—drops his gun and tumbles to the ground.

Rossi whips around, his face shocked. "Phew! Thanks, kid."

"No problem." I check to see if the UnSub is still alive, but there's no pulse. I shake my head. "He's gone."

Forty minutes later, the team and I are back at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, packing up to leave.

Hotch comes up to me. "Hey, Yang. I heard you saved Rossi." He nods with approval. "Good job."

I blush. "Thank you, Hotch."

Two hours later, we're back in Quantico. I quickly say my goodbyes so I can head home and see Spencer, since he took some personal time off for 2 weeks. As I turn around to leave, I notice that the team is looking at me and whispering in hushed tones.

I furrow my brows. "What are you guys talking about?"

JJ smiles at me, her eyes slightly glistening. "Nothing, go home and see Spencer."

Garcia sniffles a bit. "We'll see you tomorrow."

I look around at the rest of the team, all of them smiling with an elated expression on their faces. I cross my arms and ground my feet, not budging until I find out why everyone's acting like this. "Okay, someone tell me what's going on right this instant."

Garcia looks around nervously, dying to spill the beans. "Spencer—" She starts but quickly shuts up when everyone else glares at her.

I roll my eyes. "What? Spencer what?" Nobody else says a word so with a sigh I leave. Whatever, they can just keep their little secret from me.

I storm out of the building and into my car, slamming the door in frustration. Pulling out my cell phone, I call Spencer to complain but he doesn't answer. With a grunt, I toss my phone onto the passenger's seat and drive home.

When I arrive, I decide to take the stairs up to my place to release some frustration before seeing Spencer. I sprint up the flights of stairs up to the 2nd floor. Feeling better after getting my heart rate up, I unlock the door with my keys. When I open it, everything is dark, silent, and eerie.

Fear strikes me, every hair on my body stands up. "Spencer?" I call out, pulling my gun out. I run through every bad possible scenario in my head. He could be tied up in a chair right now and I'm about to walk right into a trap. Or he could've been kidnapped. Then my heart drops when I think about the worst possible scenario. What if I find him dead?

Suddenly, the lights come up and I see a tall white figure in front of me and I pull the trigger, shooting it in the head. But then I realize it's a mannequin.

"Oh, my God, Lina!" Spencer comes out from behind the mannequin.

"Spencer???" I lower my gun and tilt my head in confusion.

He looks back at the poor mannequin with a gunshot to it's head. "You nearly killed me!"

"I thought you were an intruder!" I protest, putting my gun away. Now that I've calmed down, I notice that the mannequin is wearing a light blue dress that seems to shimmer in the light. It has lacey long sleeves and drapes down to the floor.

I glance at Spencer and my cheeks flush a bit. I didn't even notice how handsome he looked. He got a new haircut, short in the back with longer tousled bangs in the front, accentuating his high cheekbones and framing his pretty face perfectly. He's also dressed head to toe in a black suit, with a matching tie and a purple button up shirt. In his hand, he's holding a bouquet of flowers.

"Uhhh...." I wrack my brain, trying to remember what the occasion is. Is it our anniversary? A birthday?

Spencer smiles, handing me the bouquet of flowers and I take it. "Go put on the dress, my love," he whispers softly and I grin.

Whatever today is, I'm liking it.

"Okay, I'll be back." I strip the dress off of the mannequin and head into my room.

Setting down the flowers on the bed, I quickly change out of my work clothes that has blood splatters from shooting the UnSub earlier today, and slip on the beautiful dress. It is a perfect fit and I spin around in it, letting the sash flow around me. Feeling elated, I step out of my room and walk towards Spencer where his back is facing me.

He turns around and his breath hitches. With a big smile, he says, "You look... stunning."

"Thank you." I blush and tuck a hair behind my ear. "What's the occasion?"

Spencer offers his arm and I take it. "You'll see when we get there."

Together, we leave the apartment and get into the car where he opens the door for me like a gentleman.

"Can you just give me a hint, please?" I pout as he gets into the driver's seat, starting the car.

"Hmm... I've been taking some dance classes lately." Spencer smirks and starts driving.

"You? Dancing?" I snicker and nudge him in the arm. "That's what you've been doing during your personal time off?"

Spencer chuckles and nods. "That's right. I want this night to be a special and unforgettable one."

"Spence, every day I spend with you is already special and unforgettable." I place a hand on his cheek as he stops at a red light.

He smiles and nuzzles my hand. "Same."

After 15 minutes of driving, he hands me a light blue sash that matches my dress. "Can you put this on, please?" he asks.

I stare at the sash and tilt my head. "Put it on?"

"It's a blindfold," answers Spencer. "We're almost there."

I reluctantly tie it around my head—I hate not knowing where I'm going. "Okay fine, but you better not kidnap me or something." Slumping in my seat, I cross my arms across my chest. When I feel the car stop and Spencer turns off the engine, I reach for the blindfold but he stops me.

"Nuh-uh, you're keeping this on," he orders.

"How am I supposed to see where I'm going?" I question.

I hear Spencer get out of the car and open the door on my side. Then he scoops me up in his arms, bridal style.

"I can walk by myself!" I complain, kicking my feet in the cool, night air. He ignores me and carries me up a flight of stairs. We enter somewhere where gold, bright lights hit me through the blindfold and in my face.

"We're here." Spencer sets me down and removes my blindfold.

I blink a few times, adjusting to the lights. I let out a gasp when I see the room around me. The wooden floors shine beneath my feet and the walls are decorated with beautiful gold art. A huge chandelier hangs in the center with sparkling crystals on it. I spin around, taking it all in. The night sky can be seen through the wide windows that stretch nearly to the top of the ceiling.

"Spencer..." I trail off, at a loss for words. "Y-you did this for me?"

"Anything for you, my darling." He clears his throat and soft music starts to play. Putting his hands on my waist, we start swaying left and right. I smile and rest my hands on his shoulders, following the rhythm. As the song picks up he spins me around and I laugh in delight.

Honestly, I'm impressed by Spencer's dancing skills despite only taking a few lessons. The way he moves with my body is so fluid, like we were made to dance with each other. For the finale, he dips me and I lean my head back, letting him kiss my collarbone.

"That was... amazing," I say, still dizzy from all the spinning and twirling.

Spencer pecks my cheek. "I guess those lessons really paid off."

I roll my eyes and kiss him back. "Thank you... tonight was wonderful."

Spencer raises an eyebrow. "Who said it's over?" Taking my hand, he lures me across the enormous dance floor and through the double doors. We run down the fancy carpeted hallway together and enter a huge banquet hall. In the center, there is a single round table with food and wine on top.

"Is that Korean food?" I giggle when I see two bowls of Bibimbap on the table, the dish Spencer and I had together on our first date.

"It sure is." Spencer pulls out my chair and gestures for me to sit down.

Such a gentleman. "I'm sorry, but I still don't know what the occasion is."

"You'll find out, soon." He raises his glass and I clink mine with his.

Over dinner, I tell him about our most recent case and how I saved Rossi from being shot. But the whole time, I notice that Spencer seems to be fidgeting nervously in his seat.

"Is everything okay?" I ask, finishing my last bite of food.

"Y-yeah." Spencer cracks his neck uncomfortably. He doesn't seem to want to talk about it so I don't push on.

"So... how did you pay for all of this?" I marvel at the enormous room that's built like a palace.

"I know a friend who knows a friend." He gives me a wink that makes my heart flutter. "Come with me." Reaching his hand over the table, I take it and he escorts me to a small room from across the banquet hall.

Inside, there is blue, white and gold furniture with royal decorations. But in the middle of it all, lies the masterpiece. A breathtaking grand piano sits in the center, gold decors that snake up it's legs like vines. I open my mouth to say something, but no words come out.

Spencer guides me to the piano bench and we sit down next to each other. "This is for you, my love," he whispers in my ear. He places his fingers on the keyboard and starts playing. I recognize the melody as the song "All Of Me".

My jaw drops in amazement. Spencer can play the piano??? And as if I wasn't already surprised enough, he starts singing. And it's really good singing, nothing like the chicken screeches that I hear from him when we sing karaoke together.

I sigh and rest my head on his shoulder as he sings. His singing voice is beautiful, gentle, soft, and with the slightest bit of rasp. I feel like I'm being sucked into a magical world with his voice, a world where all my troubles and worries don't exist. A world where it's just Spencer and I in each other's arms forever. Closing my eyes, I enjoy listening to the rest of the song, never wanting him to stop singing.

When he finishes, I have to blink a few times to get out of my trance. "Spencer, that was so beautiful...."

He blushes and rubs the back of his neck. "Thank you."

"When did you learn to play and sing?"

"During my personal time off."

I raise an eyebrow. "Two weeks?"

He nods. "It's actually not that hard, considering I have an eidetic memory."

I chuckle, pressing my lips next to his ear and whisper, "I love it."

Spencer stands up and pulls me with him, we walk out onto the balcony together where the moonlight glow hits our faces. I watch as he starts to sweat nervously.

What is going on? I wonder to myself.

He turns to face me, looking me deep into my eyes. His expression is gentle but serious. "Lina?"

"Yes?" I search his eyes for any indication as to what he's planning to do.

Taking a deep breath, Spencer takes my hand and gets down on one knee, looking at me with adoration in his eyes.

Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit! My heart begins to race. He's going to propose to me!
