Chapter 18
22:27, 26 July 2019Nathaniel gasped as Chloe fell to the floor when he opened the door. A bottle of pills was near her, and Nathaniel had a sneaking suspicion that he knew what had happened to her, but he didn't want to believe this.
"Oh God.. no.. Chloe!" Nathaniel ran over to check her pulse. She was still alive, but the pulse was weakening fast, and he had no way to get help fast.
"Help!" Nathaniel opened the door to shout out. Nobody came. Nathaniel turned back to Chloe to see a little bee like creature hovering over her. Pollen was shocked to see him standing near her owner, but she knew it was to late to save her owner's identity. She could only hope that this would end up ok.
"Oh my god..is Chloe...?" Nathaniel couldn't stop himself from saying. No way...she couldn't be...but then again, she could.
"Chloe's Queen Bee." He gasped softly. Pollen nodded, and flew over to her owner, worry written all over her face. She loved her owner so much, and couldn't believe this was happening, just as everything with her had changed.
"Nathaniel, you need to carry her to the hospital! Chloe is getting weak fast!" Pollen cried. Nathaniel nodded through his shock, and picked her up. She was so light...had she even been eating much lately? Nathaniel tried to recall the last time he had seen Chloe eat.
The hospital was a while away, and Nathaniel was panicking inwardly about getting there on time. Chloe being Queen Bee- the one who he had kissed tonight- was the last thing on his mind. All over, there were people coming back from dances. Nathaniel wished he was old enough to drive. It would make this ten times faster. He could feel Chloe getting weaker, her breathes getting few and far between.
"Hold on Chloe" Nathaniel whispered to her as the hospital came into view. He pushed himself to run faster on the extra stretch he had to get through before he could get to the hospital. He arrived pretty quick due to it, and ran inside.
All the doctors that were in the front immediately took Chloe and put her on a carrier to a emergency room. Nathaniel sat down in a chair with a sigh of relief. She was getting help now. She wouldn't die.
Now that the panic subsided, Nathaniel was left to question what he had just seen. Chloe was Queen Bee, but how? Now thinking about it, there were so many clues that he had missed. so many things that he had decided were just coincidences. Of course he wouldn't tell anyone, but it was just so shocking.
An hour later, a doctor came in the room. Nathaniel stood up, taking a deep breath when he saw the doctors sad smile.
"How is she?" Nathaniel asked. The doctor sighed.
"I'm afraid that she didn't make it through the surgery." The doctor said, closing his eyes for a brief second.
Nathaniel's world seemed to slow.
"No..." Nathaniel's voice cracked. He pushed past the doctor to where Chloe's room was. He saw a flat line on the screen. Chloe was laid in the hospital bed, pale. He touched her hand. It was cold. A sob escaped Nathaniel. The doctor stood in the doorway.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
