Chapter 18 - I haven't seen you in Years

18th November 2002:

Me and Mike were chilling with Otis, life was great. Despite me aching and hurting it was all good, the pain was worth it to bring baby Otis to this world, he was the most beautiful and cutest baby I had laid eyes on. Everyone says that about their own child but I had never been a baby person, I thought they were cute but I was scared of taking care of them. Since Chester and Samantha became parents in late 2001, I knew I could always phone or go over to ask them for help.

"So, how do you feel that we are parents and we have a literal 1 day old child with us here?" I asked Mike, he stuttered but was smiling, "I was scared at first y'know, cause I'm now a parent but Otis is sure going to have a good life, I can see him growing up and becoming a wise young man" Someone knocked on the door, Mike rushed over to open it, "Who are you?" Mike asked to the man at the door, I couldn't see who it was, only hear the conversation. The words the man said struck me, "I'm Ruby's father. I uh.. I haven't talked to her in a while and I wanted to meet my grandson. You Ruby's boyfriend?" He asked. I was so shocked that he could not be in contact for me for literal years and then expect to come over like nothing happened just to see Otis. My dad walked in and smiled at me, he gave me a massive hug but looked healthier, "Hi, it's great to see you again. And I'm so glad to be a grandfather." He sat beside me and Mike stood in the doorway to the living room, "How did you find where I live? And about me giving birth?" I was so confused how he did so but once he explained, it all made sense.

"Well, when you moved out of my place at 18 and to this house, I really wanted to see you. Just yesterday one of your friends Tanisha messaged me asking if I was OK, because she knew about my alcohol addiction. I told her that I'm much better now and I'm only drinking once a week. Then I asked for where you lived and she told me. She decided to bring up the fact you had given birth too and here I am now." Dad explained, and I was so happy that he had gotten over his addiction, it was really bad when I was 18 and was one of the main reasons I moved out, he became so abusive and I grew distant. "So, I'm sorry for everything. You mothers death was hard for us all, myself included and I should have never took this all out on you." I forgave my dad and he brought up my friends, "So how are your friends? Zane, is he OK?" My heart sank and I grew silent, Mike decided to take the words out of my mouth and explain to my dad what happened, "Zane uh.. Died 11 months ago, car crash.." He looked sad and I finally managed to hold back the tears, his death still hurt some days. "Oh shit, I loved that guy, I'm so sorry" Dad rubbed my back and baby Otis woke up from my lap. He started to cry , most likely because he was hungry, "I'll go and make him a bottle" Mike walked in to the kitchen to make Otis some food and a bottle. "Can I hold him?" My dad loved babies so I let him hold my son, it was adorable seeing Otis with his grandad.

He calmed down from crying when my dad hugged him and rocked side to side, he always knew how to treat babies correctly. "I've got something for Otis." I took him from my dad as he rooted in his bag to get out a few outfits,including little jeans, t-shirts and buttoned shirts. "Aww, that is so cute! Thank you dad I really appreciate it" Mike came in with a bottle and took Otis from me to feed him, Mike loved feeding our son, it was so beautiful that Mike was devoted to looking after him.

Later on me, Mike and My dad were laughing hard. It was so great to be around my fathers company again. To be honest, I was pissed off at first that he had the audacity to come over but it was because he loved me, every parent loves their child and I was taking it on a different perspective because I was now a mother...
