Come, my darling, homeward bound
E L S Aย ยฐ
Immortality has its upsides and downsides. I learned that the hard way.ย
"Where do I start?" I turned to Jack.
"Maybe start how all of this is possible? Is it really you? Am I dreaming? Is this an illusion?" Jack began bombarding his questions.
I laughed. "It's really me Jack, don't worry. I'm as real as I can be." I assured him.
"Since when? How long have you been... like this? And how did you even achieve this?" He looked at me with fascination.
"It's a fifth spirit thing I guess?" I shrugged.ย
It was more my choice but I think that's another explanation I'd tell him later.
"You become immortal for being the fifth spirit?" He raised an eyebrow. "Then that means Anna is also-"
"No. That's not... it wasn't how that worked." I looked away.
"Oh." He paused. "Sorry, I still don't know how the spirits work here I guess." He scratched the back of his neck.
Immortality has its upsides and downsides. The upside was I get to be with my loved one longer. The downside is that I get to outlive them.
"It's... okay. I'm over it now. I think." I said. "It has been more than a couple of years after all."
Jack simply reach out his hand to hold minr. I muttered a thank you as I intertwined our fingers.
"So I'm guessing Grand Pabbie help with the whole immortal thing?" Jack asked.
"The trolls were a huge help, yes. But ultimately I think it was more the power of Ahtohallan." I said looking up.
Then I turned to Jack. "Which reminds me, you got my letter right?"
"Letter?" He looked at me confused.
"The one I left at Ahtohallan." I clarified.
His eyes widened in realization and nodded right away. He used his other hand to reach down the pocket of his hoodie and showed the letter to me.
I laughed. "I'm glad you actually got it then." I said, taking the paper from his hand.
"By the way, I like your new outfit. Very... modern looking." I commented.
"Speak for yourself, I never thought I'd see you on something other than formal wear." He said gesturing to me.
I giggled a bit. "I did draw inspiration from tourists around here." I said, flaunting my sneakers. "They're quite comfortable." I added.
"I like how we sort of match with the long sleeve. Though I guess yours is more skin tight than mine." Jack said.
"Well it's something I'm used to having I guess." I shrugged. "Anyway, how was your... years? centuries? How did that go for you? What did the winter spirit do while on his solo adventures?" I asked, to direct attention to him this time. I am quite curious how he was back then.
"Oh, I have exciting news actually." Jack faced me, his eyes gleaming in with excitement.
"Really? And what is that?" I asked.
He cleared his throat. "I am now... a guardian!" He said proudly. "Can you believe it? Me, a guardian. Just like Santa and the Easter Bunny and โ and Sandman and the Toothfairy!" He said, almost running out of breath for saying it too fast.
"Wow, that's amazing. Since when?" I asked.
"Well, just recently. If we met again for maybe a year earlier I wouldn't have been able to share this news." Jack scratched the back of his neck.
"Pretty recent then." I said.
"Very." He laughed. "Oh, you should meet them, they're really nice. And you mentioned before that you haven't really heard of them much right?"
"Well, compared to my knowledge then I'd say yes. But living this long I'd say I heard more about them for sure. I'm personally curious about Santa." I said.
"Is it true that he has elves that help him create millions of toys for the children around the globe?" I asked.
He laughed nervously. "Well... you'll have to see for yourself." He said.
"We can go meet Santa?" I asked.
"Do you want to?" He raised an eyebrow.
I looked around, though that didn't do much. I don't even know why I did that. "Are we going to go now? As in, right now?"
He shrugged.
"I'll go tell the trolls."
***
"Do you always tell Grand Pabbie and the others your whereabouts? Like tell them wherever you're going before you go?" Jack asked while we soared through the sky.
"Well, I got used to it I guess? All these years my life basically revolved around Ahtohallan and the Valley of the Living Rock." I explained. It was during that time when I understood Kristoff more, I was basically sort of an adoptive member at that point to be honest.
"I occassionally go to the more populated area but I can't really stay that long there. I don't want to get recognized." I added.
"Why not?" Jack raised an eyebrow.
"Well, modern days didn't exactly adapt to the magic ways as much as we anticipated. I more or less became an urban legend in town for looking like i haven't aged in years, which is true, but explaining it everytime becomes more like a bother." I said.
"So people seeing you without context of believing is still the basis on your area then?" Jack pointed out.
"Some things never change I guess." I shrugged.
And as the time passed while we were on our way to the North Pole, we talked about many other things; how our castle is now basically just a tourist spot, the Northuldrans eventually settling in a larger area, how Jack was chosen and his new friend Jamie, we even talked about the other guardians.
Hearing his recent adventure sure beats whatever I did that year. It was quite uneventful for me for sure.
Still though, I imagined my reunion with him countless of times but never have I imagined it ending up like this.
"We're almost there." Jack said.
I looked over the direction he was looking at and saw a huge structure peaking out the vast amount of snow. Its color making it stand out more from the white canvas it is on.
"That looks huge." I commented.
"Wait till you see the inside." Jack said with a grin. I can tell he can barely contain his excitement himself.
We landed on what seems like a ramp connected to an entrance. Maybe where Santa rides off with on his notable sleigh.
"Jack, we're not sneaking in are we?" I asked, noticing that were we went is not exactly what I'd qualify as a front door. "Does Santa even entertain guests?"
"Relax, I know my way around here. Plus I'm not banned here anymore." Jack said with confidence.
"You were banned here?" I raised an eyebrow.
"How did you think I maintained my top rank on the naughty list back then?" He said with a smug face.
I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. "That's-"
"I'm kidding." He laughed. "That's not why I was top on the naughty list."
"What-"
"Also North said he'll wipe the slate clean, so technically, I am no longer in the naughty list. Also also, like I said, I can just come by here whenever I want. At least according to North." Jack said as we simply barged in.
"North?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, North as in Santa โ oh hi Phil." He said, waving to a yeti. The yeti looked at me to I just waved too with an awkward smile.
I noticed as we walked through the whole factory of a building, most of the workers were yetis, contrary to the popularized tale that it's the elves making the toys.
So that's what Jack meant earlier.
As I admired the mass produced toys being done by the yetis skillfully, I could here Jack talking to some of them; greeting them, occassionally waving and commending them of their work โ maybe Jack's pretty popular around here.
"Hey, they said North's in his workshop in that room." Jack said pointing at a door. "Ready to meet him?" He asked.
I reluctantly nodded, giving a small squeeze on his hand that I almost forgot was intertwined with mine the entire time.
"Alright." Jack said with a smile before knocking on the door. "Hey North, I'm back~!" He said in a cheery tone, almost singing.
"Oh good, I was just about to-" as the door swung open we were greeted by a tall man with a long white beard, rosy cheeks, and bright blue eyes.
Is this really Santa? The generous man that all the kids are excited about during christmas?
"Well, isn't this a surprise." He muttered under his breath as he stared at me.
He then noticed our intertwined hands then gave Jack a stare, processing the moment.
Jack laughed. "Surprise." He said. "I'd like you to meet Elsa." He gestured to me. I awkwardly waved with a smile.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you Mr. Claus." I offered my hand.
"Please, call me North. That's what my friends call me." He said. He seemed bewildered at first but shook my hand still.
"She sees us." He mouthed to Jack as he shook my hand. I couldn't help but laugh.
Now I kind of understand Jack's reaction when I first saw him. I guess seeing them really isn't a normal thing for others.
"And a little fun fact about her, she's also a spirit. The fifth spirit." Jack said proudly.
"Spirit?" North looked at him confused.
"Yeah, from Arendelle. She can also control ice and snow." Jack said, almost bragging.
"Ice and snow? Spirit from Arendelle?" North's eyebrows furrowed. Then for a moment his eyes widened, twinkling in excitement.
"The norwegian legend! So you do exists. I thought people talking about wonderous ice creations was just mistaking Jack for a girl." North let out a hearty laugh.
"I wouldn't necessarily call myself a legend but, yes I guess you can say I'm quite well known around those parts." I said.
"Well you meeting must've been fate then. How long have you two known each other?" North asked. Jack and I looked at each other.
"It must've been just recently, Jack haven't mentioned anyone else other than the kids after all." North said. Well... I really can't blame him for that.
"No actually, uh... it's kind of a long story." Jack scratched the back of his neck.
"Then we better grab some seats." North said, opening the door to his office and inviting us in.
