Everyone in the kingdom temporarily stayed inside the castle. Inside the castle's biggest room they all were given mats, blankets and pillows like it was a massive sleepover.
The information about the fearlings being the children was not announced to the public so there won't be more panic. The last thing we want is to give them something to fear more.
"Are you keeping watch?" I heard someone behind me.
When I realized it was the King I immediately bowed.
"Oh no no no, don't. It's okay." He panicked. "I'm not that used to this." He admitted.
"Oh." Was all I could say.
From a distance we can both see the two sisters walking around the room, checking if everyone was comfortable.
Everyone's voices seemed more like murmurs, I couldn't really make out what they were all saying. Though it is better than deafening silence.
"Well, I should go help them." Kristoff gave a smile and walked to his wife.
I just bowed again, not knowing what else to do.
"Wow we have a lot of visitors." Olaf popped up out of nowhere.
I just laughed. "Yeah, it's a lot of people in here." I just agreed.
"Mr. Winter Spirit Jack Frost-"
"Just Jack is fine." I interrupted him.
I put up his hand, signaling me to wait. "Mr. Winter Spirit Jack." He said then looking at me.
"You don't have to call me Mr. Winter Spirit. Jack is just fine." I laughed.
"Oh, well then I'll be referring to you as Jack from this moment on." He said.
"I mean, I have been telling you to just call me Jack even back then." I said.
He paused, grimaced then nodded. "I see." He said with a smile.
"So what did you have to tell me?" I asked.
He paused once more. "I already forgot." He laughed before walking over to the two sisters. He was greeted by Elsa who was walking her way towards me.
She gave me a weak smile and a small wave as she got near me.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked, noticing the troubled expression she had on her face.
She sighed. "I'm fine. I keep telling Anna but she insists I go to bed." She said glancing over to her sister with a pouting face. She looks like a kid who just got scolded. I laughed making her raise an eyebrow.
"What's so funny?" She asked.
I shook my head. "Nothing." I smiled, though I feel like it's more of a grin. This made her give me a suspicious look.
"I just thought that expression you had earlier was sort of... cute." I admitted to make her stop looking at me like that.
Her eyes widened and a small shade of pink crept on her face. "Uh, thank you?" She said.
"You're welcome." I said beginning to feel awkward. Did I really just say that?
Then there was silence between us as we both just watched Anna and Kristoff who was being assisted by Olaf. At the corner of my eye I would notice Elsa look my way then look back at Anna, or maybe that was just my imagination.
After what felt like hours Elsa cleared her throat to grab my attention. "I should get going." She said, her head tilting to the direction of her room.
"Oh uh..." I ended up nodding instead of just saying 'okay' like a normal person.
She walked slowly, she was slightly shivering which I thought was odd since she always said the cold never bothered her.
I ended up following her. She's been acting odd ever since we got back from the Valley of the Living Rock, even Anna says there's something wrong.
She was in deep thought as she was walking, her eyebrows knitted and her lips were pursed as she hugged herself. The only time she let go was when she was about to open the door.
Before she could come in I decided to speak up. "Elsa." I called which was enough to startle her. Her eyes widened and the part of the door she was holding was instantly covered in ice.
"Woah, calm down it's just me." I told her and when our eyes met she seemed to have calmed herself.
"Sorry, you just surprised me there." She laughed. "I didn't know you followed me." She admitted.
"I thought you didn't, you looked like your were thinking of something really deeply that you didn't notice me flying beside you." I said with a laugh.
"Yeah, sorry about that." She said laughing once more. "Why did you follow me anyway?" She asked.
I paused as I looked at her. She kept her puzzled look as she waited for my reply.
"Well, I don't know if I'm in any position to say this but I know something is wrong. You're acting really odd lately and I just keep having this feeling that want to help you with what you're going through right now." I explained. She looked at me dumbfounded. "Is that weird? What I just said?" I asked resting one of my hands on my nape.
"Uh, no. Not at all." She said shaking her head.
"That's the second time Jack Frost, you're a charmer." I could hear her say under her breath.
"What?" I asked, not sure if I heard it right.
"What?" She just repeated. Okay so maybe I heard it wrong then.
I just shook my head. "I just want to ask what's wrong." I said trying to bring the same topic back again.
She sighed, opened the room of her door a bit wider. "Well, I could use someone to talk to right now." Elsa said motioning me to come inside.
We both sat near the window, looking out the quiet streets of Arendelle. The streets were still well lit despite the fact that no one was in their own homes since everyone was in the castle.
After a short silence Elsa sighed. "Everyone's going to be okay right?" She said.
I looked at her, she kept looking outside with her worried expression. There it was again, her slight trembling. The window was starting to gather up frost, all coming from where her hand was resting.
I extended my hand to hers, making her look at me with surprise. She pulled away her hand. "No, don't my hands are cold." She said with a panicked voice.
I raised an eyebrow. "You know I'm Jack Frost right? A little cold hand won't bother me." I smiled at her, holding her hand once more. She just smiled.
"Thank you." She said. Her trembling seemed to have stopped and her expression softened.
"You're welcome." I told her with a smile. "Look, Everything's going to be okay. And if you ever need help I'll be willing to give you a hand." I said jokingly raising our intertwined hand.
She laughed. "Thank you." She kept saying. That's like the third time she told me that.
"You know, this feels nice." She said looking at our hands. "Not having to worry about having cold hands for once." She added.
"I know." I laughed, and as my laughter died down I found myself staring at our hands. I unknowingly lightly squeezed her hand, as if I was making sure I was really able to touch it.
I honestly never thought there would come a day where someone would see me,let alone be in contact with them. She's right, it does feel nice.
"Elsa, back then you said you've always been locked in your room right?" I asked out of the blue.
"Yes, why?" She asked.
"What did you do to keep yourself from being bored?" I looked around her room, trying to figure out what possible hobbies she had.
"Well, I didn't really do much." Elsa shrugged. "I was a boring child." She joked.
"I beg to differ." I said making her raised an eyebrow.
"Why so?" She asked.
"If I'm not mistaken you had a little playmate back then." I gave her a smirk which simply made her eyebrows raise. "A penguin playmate?"
"You know about that?" She looked surprised.
"Well back then I used to see you near the window talking to Mr. Yergenbergen." I said.
"It's Sir Jorgenbjorgen." She corrected me making me laugh a bit.
"Yeah him." I agreed.
"I must admit I used to listen to your stories back then too. Sorry about that." I said scratching the back of my neck.
"It's okay. I barely remember what I told Sir Jorgenbjorgen back then anyway. If I'm not mistaken I just retold most stories father used to tell us back then." She said laughing. "Either that or just retelling my boring old routine." She added.
"Well, it was fun listening to it though." I said. "Even your boring old routine." I added making her smile.
"How about, you pretend I'm Sir Jorgenbjorgen? Tell me about your day." I suggested, giving her an encouraging smile.
She laughed. "Okay then." She said taking a deep breath as she tilted her body to face me, her eyes were on our hands and after sighing her eyes met mine.
"Today was quite a day, I can barely process what is happening right now." She started. "It's like I'm back to that day again only this time we have even more questions after getting an answer. Normally we'd have this concrete plan and we'd know what to do to stop whatever is happening right now but we don't even know what we're trying to stop."
She faced the ground once more. "What even are fearlings?" She said with a frustrated voice, her grip on my hand slightly tightened. "I'm almost over my fears and then they show up and suddenly I feel like all my fears are coming back to me." She admitted.
"I know Anna is here to stay with me and go through it together, I even have a new person that's willing to help-" she paused looking at me, I just gave her a smile. "-and I'm really thankful for them." She added with a weak smile.
"But honestly, I still feel scared." She looked down once more.
I reached out my other hand to hold her other one. Now I was holding both her hands. She didn't look up, she simply tightened her grip on my hands.
"What if we won't be able to stop the fearlings and my fears will get the better of me? What if I send another eternal winter here in Arendelle? What if I end up not being able to thaw it this time?" She said her voice starting to tremble.
"I want to help. I really do. But what can I do?" Her voice cracked. I sighed, then pulled her in for a hug.
"I'm scared Jack."
