Elena's POV

We found shelter after surviving a battle between stone giants during a storm. I'm keeping watch with Bofur, when Bilbo tries to sneak out. "Where do you think you're going?" Bofur asks in a whisper so as not the wake the others. But I notice Thorin awake listening.

"Back to Rivendell" Bilbo answers.

"Why?" I ask him confused. I know Thorin was harsh earlier with his words when Bilbo nearly fell off the mountain. But that's no reason to leave.

"No, no, you can't turn back now, you're part of the Company. You're one of us" Bofur tells Bilbo earnestly.

"I'm not though, am I? Thorin said I should never have come, and he was right. I'm not a Took, I'm a Baggins, I don't know what I was thinking. I should never have run out my door" Bilbo explains.

"I'll go with you Bilbo" I tell him.

"You're homesick; I understand" Bofur tells Bilbo.

"No, you don't, you don't understand! None of you do you're dwarves. You used to tothis life, to living on the road, never settling in one place, not belonging anywhere" Bilbo states. Bofur looks offended, and Bilbo is repentant. "I am sorry, I didn't..." he tries to say.

"No, you're right. We don't belong anywhere. I wish you both all the luck in the world. I really do" Bofur states. I roll up my bed roll and put on my cloak as Bilbo waits. "What's that?" he asks Bilbo. I look over to see Bilbo unsheathe his sword, which is glowing blue.

"Wake up. Wake up!" Thorin shouts to the others. Before anyone can react, the floor of the cave collapses downwards; the floor is really a giant trap door. The entire Company falls down a chute. I unsheathe my claws and dig them into the wall gritting my teeth. The others continues to fall and land in a wooden cage. I cling to the wall out of view.

I watch goblins take the dwarves away Bilbo somehow gets missed by the goblins; not seeing him they leave him behind. Nori, looking over his shoulder, sees this happen. Bilbo scampers behind some railing to hide as he watches the goblins proceed through the tunnels. Bats fly in the darkness. Bilbo draws his sword, which is glowing bright blue, and slowly follows.

I look up and knew I had to get help. Bilbo will be fine. But the others might not be. I turn into a panther and start to climb up the chute. Only my cloak remained as the rest of my clothes tore away. I reach the cave and catch my breath. Then take off the way we came looking for Gandalf. I find him halfway down the mountain.

"Elena" he says shocked. I turn making sure my cloak covers my body.

"Dwarves captured by goblins, Bilbo following them. They need us" I tell him.

"Lead the way" he tells me. I turn and remove my cloak to give me more movability. I run back to the cave and we slide down the chute. "Can you track them?" he asks me. I nod my head and track the dwarves. But as we arrive in goblin town, the stench of goblin over powers their scent. I look at him and paw my nose. "When in doubt, follow the noise" he tells me.

We follow the nose of cheering goblins and the sound of awful singing. "Bones will be shattered, necks will be wrung! You'll be beaten and battered, from racks you'll be hung. You will lie down here and never be found, down in the deep of Goblin town" someone sings. We arrive on the edge of the platform out of sight to see the company surrounded.

"Slash them! Beat them! Kill them! Kill them all! Cut off his head!" the goblin king shouts. A blinding light fills the room knocking the goblins off of their feet.

"Take up arms. Fight. Fight!" Gandalf shouts at the dwarves. I roar and tackle the nearest goblin biting his head off. "Elena lead the way!" he shouts at me. I nod jump onto a higher platform and smell a faint whiff of fresh air. I give a call to Gandalf and he nods his head. "Follow the panther and I. Quick! Run!" he shouts at the dwarves.

I run leading the way knocking goblins off platforms and slashing necks as I go. As well as biting off a few heads. We make it out after killing the goblin king. "Where's our hobbit?" Gandalf asks.

"What about Elena?" Kili and Fili asks. I chaff flicking my tail and lick my paws. "Is that you?" they ask in shock and I nod my head. Thorin disses Bilbo again and I growl flattening my ears.

"No, he isn't" Bilbo states appearing and I smile. I rush over and rub my head against his chest looking for injuries. He was fine except for a few scrapes. "Look, I know you doubt me, I know you always have. And you're right, I often think of Bag End. I miss my books. And my armchair. And my garden. See, that's where I belong. That's home. And that's why I came back, cause you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help you take it back if I can" he tells Thorin.

Suddenly howling fills the air and I growl glaring in the direction. Gandalf shouts at us to run. We do so and reach a dead end. Bilbo kills a warg and I help him retrieve his sword. Then grab the back of his cloak and jump into a nearby tree. While the others climb the other trees. The orc pack appear on wargs lead by Azog and I snarl.

"Kod, Toragid biriz" Azog tells his orcs pointing to Thorin and I. I growl as my fur stands on end. "Wororida!" he orders (kill the others). The riderless wargs leap forward and try to climb the trees. The trees shake violently at the assault, and the dwarves struggle to hold on. The trees start to up root.

I grab Bilbo again and jump to Gandalf's tree as the dwarves jump without help. I land on a thick branch and release Bilbo. Gandalf and Fili through fire at the wargs scaring them off. But the don't leave. "Mister Gandalf! Hold on, Ori!" Dori shouts and I look see him hanging off a branch with Ori holding onto his legs.

I jump down to them and grab Dori's coat. I left him up dragging him onto the branch with Ori. "Thanks Miss Elena!" Ori gasps. I nod my head and look to see Thorin challenging Azog and his white warg.

I snarl and jump back up to the trunk. Then run through the flames ramming an orc away from Thorin and behead it. I crouch in front of Thorin's body snarling. Bilbo appears beside me sword drawn. "You want him, you'll have to go through us" Bilbo sneers and I growl. Dwalin, Gloin, Fili and Kili join us as we charge the orcs. I take on the riderless wargs killing them quickly.

Suddenly an eagle screech fills the air and I look up to see a flock of giant eagles approaching. I run and grab Bilbo tossing him onto my back and run for the cliff as he clings to my scruff. "What are you doing?" he asks me. I jump off the cliff and land onto an eagles back. The other eagles grab the rest of the company.

They fly until the sunrises. Bilbo had gotten off of my back and is laying beside me on the eagle. The Eagles approach a massive rock structure shaped like a bear; it is the Carrock. The Eagle carrying Thorin gently deposits him and his sword on a flat area on top of the Carrock. Another Eagle lands on the Carrock and Gandalf slides off its neck, running toward the unconscious Thorin. The others drop us off and leave.

Thorin woke up and went over to Bilbo. "You! What were you doing? You nearly got yourself killed! Did I not say that you would be a burden? That you would not survive in the wild and that you had no place amongst us?" he demands and I flatten my ears. "I've never been so wrong in all my life!" he exclaims hugging Bilbo. The other dwarves cheer loudly and slap each other on the back.

I smile and relax. I go the edge and see a single mountain and call out to the others. "Is that what I think it is?" Bilbo asks as they join me.

"Erebor—The Lonely Mountain. The last of the great dwarf kingdoms of Middleearth" Gandalf says.

"Our home" Thorin adds. We look on at the Lonely Mountain as the sun comes up behind us. I think the worst is behind us. But I smell something, a scent I haven't smelt in years. But my nose must be playing tricks on me. I'm the last skin charger, there are no others. Why would I be smelling one here?
