Mountain Trolls
13:54, 12 January 2020Elena's POV
Last night Balin told us the story about how Thorin defeated the pale Orc. I laid on an over hang over the group as the story was told. Keeping watch over the group with my night vision. I didn't have the heart to tell them the pale orc is alive with a claw for an arm. Hopefully we won't run into him. If we do, his warg is mine.
Anyway today it decided to rain nonstop. I'm grumbling under my breath as we continue on our journey. I hate the run, but Garth loves it. "Here, Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?" Dori asks.
"It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard" Gandalf tells him.
"Are there any? Other wizards?" Bilbo asks him.
"There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman, the White. Then there are the two Blue Wizards; you know, I've quite forgotten their names" Gandalf explains.
"And who is the fifth?" Bilbo asks.
"That'd be Radaghast the Brown" I state smiling.
"Is he a great Wizard or is he...more like you?" he asks Gandalf who looks mildly offended.
"I think he's a very great wizard, in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers thecompany of animals to others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too, for always Evil will look to find a foothold in this world" Gandalf explains.
"I spent sometime there after I lost my family, until I was skilled enough to set out on my own" I state. The Company arrives at an old, abandoned farmhouse that is in ruins. The rain has finally stopped. I dismount Garth and let him explore while the ponies are tied to trees.
"We'll camp here for the night. Fili, Kili, look after the ponies. Make sure you stay with them" Thorin instructs.
"A farmer and his family used to live here" I hear Gandalf say as he studies the ruins.
"Oin, Gloin. Get a fire going" Thorin orders. They do as they're told.
"I think it would be wiser to move on" Gandalf states.
"We could make for the Hidden Valley" I suggest. I'd always wanted to meet elves. I hear Rivendell had the nicest elves in Middle Earth.
"I have told Gandalf already, I will not go near that place" Thorin tells me.
"Why not? The elves could help us. We could get food, rest, advice" I tell him.
"I do not need their advice" he states.
"We have a map that we cannot read. Lord Elrond could help us" Gandalf tells him.
"Help? A dragon attacks Erebor, what help came from the Elves? Orcs plunder Moria, desecrate our sacred halls, the Elves looked on and did nothing. You ask me to seek out the verypeople who betrayed my grandfather and betrayed my father" Thorin says.
"You are neither" I remind him.
"She's right, I did not give you that map and key for you to hold on to the past" Gandalf tells him.
"I did not know that they were yours to keep" Thorin retorts. Gandalf and I stomp off angrily. I whistle for Garth who trots over.
"Everything alright? Gandalf, Elena where are you going?" Bilbo asks us.
"To seek the company of the only one around here who's got any sense" I tell him as I mount Garth. Gandalf mounts his horse.
"Who's that?" he asks confused.
"Ourselves, Mr Baggins" Gandalf tells him.
"I've had enough of dwarves for one day" I state and we gallop off. "Honestly Gandalf, why did I let me talk you into this crazy quest?" I ask him.
"You needed to get out of your house" he states.
"Whatever, I'm going to shift and stretch my limbs look after Garth please" I tell him. I jump off Garth and shift midair. I land on a branch and take off through the trees. I soon stop though smelling a horrible stench and hide in the shadows. I see a cave and inside are three mountain trolls.
"Guys, I saw ponies" one of them tells the other two.
"Lets go get them and eat" another says.
I take off back through the trees looking for Gandalf and Garth. I find them on top of a hill overlooking the trees. I land in front of them startling his horse. "Really Elena, what's the matter?" he asks me and I give him a pointed look. He sighs and puts his cloak around me.
I turn human again and stand with it around me. "Trolls, three of them" I tell him. "We have to go warn the others and leave this area" I state.
"Quiet right" he agrees. I grab a change of clothes and go behind a tree. I change quickly and return to him. I turn to Garth and tell him to stay put. Gandalf and I rush back to the ruined farm house. To see no sign of the others or the ponies.
I take a deep breath. "They're that way" I state pointing.
"Lets hope they buy time until the sunrises" he says. We make our way through the trees silently. I smell smoke and we follow it. We hide and see the trolls roasting Dwalin, Bofur, Dori, Ori and Nori on a spit. Bilbo was talking to the trolls while in a sack, the rest of the dwarves piled up in their own sacks.
"'e's right! Nothing wrong with a bit of raw dwarf! Nice and crunchy" one of the trolls says. He grabs Bombur, who is in a sack, and dangles him upside down over his mouth, about to eat him. I lean against a tree watching as Gandalf goes up behind them.
"No, not him!" Bilbo shouts. "He's infected" he states.
"You what?" another troll asks.
"Yeah, he's got worms in his ... tubes" Bilbo states and I hold in a giggle. The drops Bombur back into the pile of Dwarves in disgust. "In-in fact they all have, they're in-infested with parasites. It's a terrible business; I wouldn't risk it, I really wouldn't" he states. I sneak around towards the sacked dwarves to free them.
"Parasites, did he say parasites?" Oin demands. I roll my eyes and pull out a knife.
"We don't have parasites! You have parasites!" Kili shouts.
"What are you talking about, laddie?" Gloin asks. The rest of the dwarves chime in about how they don't have parasites and how Bilbo is a fool. Bilbo rolls his eyes as the dwarves mess up his plan. Thorin, understand Bilbo's plan, kicks the others. They then understand and go along with it. All the dwarves begin proclaiming about how they're 'riddled' with parasites.
I smile as I reach Gloin. "Shh, we'll free you" I whisper in his ear. He's startled, but remains silent. I hide behind the pile of dwarves as I start to cut him free.
"What would you have us do, then, let 'em all go?" one of the trolls ask Bilbo.
"Well..." Bilbo says trailing off.
"You think I don't know what you're up to? This little ferret is taking us for fools" the troll states.
"He has no idea"I mumble as I freed Gloin and move onto the next dwarf. Gandalf appears on top of a large rock above the clearing.
"The dawn will take you" he states.
"Who's that?" the small troll asks.
"No idea" says the tall one.
"Can we ate him too?" the hungry troll asks. Gandalf strikes the rock with his staff, splitting it in half, allowing the sunlight behind it to pour into the clearing. When the sunlight touches the trolls' skin, they begin turning into stone amidst loud screams and howls of pain. Within seconds, there are three stone statues of trolls in the clearing. All the dwarves cheer for Gandalf. Of course, the dwarves on the spit, including Dwalin, still look uncomfortable.
"You couldn't of done that sooner Gandalf?" I ask as I stand up after freeing Oin.
"I can't make the sun rise faster Elena" he tells me. I roll my eyes and give Gloin a knife along with Oin.
"Free the rest here, I'll get the others off of the spit" I tell them. I put out the fire and cut the others off of the spit. We then go to the troll cave where Bilbo and Thorin each get a sword. Some of the dwarves fill a chest with treasure, then bury it in a hole in the ground. They were apparently making a long term deposit.
