Chapter 10- Does Tony Ever Listen?

04:27, 2 February 2025

I just stood there, mouth agape, "Bucky Barnes? How? You did it!?"

Bucky looks at me, "He told me about you. What you've done. I'm grateful."

I shrug, "It would've happened anyway, just trying to prevent half the Avengers from becoming fugitives when we need them most."

I turn to Tony, who has a pleading expression, "I know we shouldn't, but can we watch the movie?"

I shake my head, "It's one of the future. It has Spider-Man in it. You can't know who he is until he actually exists."

Tony sighs, "Well, at least get ready for your party."

I open my eyes wide, "No! No party. You saving me was enough."

He shakes his head, "You shouldn't have needed to be saved."

I shrug, "It was my fault. I gave Fury intel on Hydra. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have any other superpowers right now."

The whole room looks shocked.

Of course, Natasha speaks up, "Superpowers?"

I look at them with an 'are you serious' expression, "I was a nuisance for Hydra. If I wasn't their lab rat, I'd be dead."

Bucky sits down, "So what do you know about the future."

I sigh, "Some of it, I'm working on stopping right now. Because the moment I stop, it's the moment we all lose people we love. But, it's secret. I don't need you guys trying to kill the person. Not yet."

Clint pipes up, "At least tell us something."

I sit down, too, "All I can say is that he's killed millions. Billions, even. But if he succeeds, that number will skyrocket in a second."

Bruce looks at me, "To how much?"

I look sad when I say it, "Infinite. Well, half of infinite. But whatever."

All their eyes bulge out of their sockets.

I shrug, "But right now, the threat isn't so imminent. We have other problems."

"Who?" Steve asks.

I look at him, "Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Their powers were tested on me. They worked, of course. But, some events, which now shouldn't happen, were what led them to join the Avengers. At least, Wanda. Pietro sacrificed his life for one of you."

"Who?" Thor asks.

I sigh, "Classified."

Tony shrugs, "But this doesn't matter. Get ready for your party. Now. It's an order."

Sarcastically, I ask, "So you need to order me to have fun? When I've been in captivity for a year? Yeah. Um, no. No need to order me to do that."

I get up, "Hey, Nat, can you help me get ready? Help me choose what to wear?"

She nods, "Sure."

We walk to my room, which seems slightly dusty. I can tell he came in here a lot, but I don't think he has in about a week. Or longer.

We walk to my closet. And assortment of clothes stares back at me. Yeah, the day I got to the tower was the day he realized I needed clothes. So, he went on overload. Had Pepper ask me for sizes and I thought I was only going to get a few things. I was definitely wrong.

"So," She looks around, "Dress or blouse?"

"Dress."

She chooses out this really cute dress, and I'm not surprised it still fit me. Hydra didn't feed me a lot. But when they did, their food tasted like shit. And a lot of the times, I couldn't hold it down.

I look in the mirror and frown. The dress was terrible at covering my scars. I had scars on my stomach, back, sides, arms, legs. Everywhere they could reach without it being inappropriate.

Noticing that I had stopped changing, Nat turns around. And when she looks at me, the expression on my face fills myself with guilt. And sadness.

She gasps, "Oh my god! Abigail! Those scars."

I feel a tear go down my face, "I- Do I have to wear a dress?"

She hugs me, "No, sweetie. No, you don't. wear a sweatshirt and jeans. Just be comfortable."

When she left the room, that was when I felt truly alone. For the first time in more than a year, I was alone. No one there, and no one with any wishes for me.

3rd Person POV

As soon as Natasha left, she let the anger she felt fill her face. The scars on that girl made her sick to her stomach. In both rage and disgust. Who could do that to someone like her? In Natasha's mind, she was perfect. Sure, she may look flawed, but she was perfect.

She stormed her way to the room that the party was going to be in. She found Bruce and Tony and took them to another room. They were scared. They had never seen Natasha so angry before. And for a moment, they thought she was angry at them.

She paces in the room, "When Abigail put on that dress..."

"What?" Tony asked, worried.

"She had scars. Everywhere." She sighs, "As far as the eye could see. And that's not even all."

"What?" Bruce asked before Tony could.

"She is most definitely not a healthy weight. She grew in height but she was so bony." She says, venom lacing her voice, "I will kill Pierce when I do find him."

Tony seems even more worried, "Bruce, she never got a check up with you. Do you mind?"

Bruce nods his head, "Will do, Tony."

"Also," Natasha points out, "She won't be wearing the dress. I can tell she doesn't feel comfortable showing off the scars."

Tony shrugs, "It doesn't matter what she wears. As long as she's comfortable."

Abigail's POV

I got into a sweatshirt and jeans, and heard a knock on my bedroom door. I opened it to see that it was Bruce.

"Brucie!" I exclaim, "What can I do for you?"

"Follow me."

That's all he says, but I listen. He takes me to the lab. I already know why, and I already know what's wrong with me. But, I'll let him do the check up anyways. I know who asked for it, it's for Tony.

He has me sit on the chair, and it feels too familiar. It felt a bit like the experimentation rooms in the Hydra facility. My breathing quickened, and I fell into a Panic Attack.

Bruce notices, "Count backwards from ten."

I find a way to force the words out, "Ten... Nine... Eight... Seven..."

I don't need to finish, because I'm back. At least this one didn't come with a flashback, or I'd be screwed.

"You okay?" He asks.

"Yeah. I'm fine." I lie.

After he does everything he needs to do, check my weight, assess for injuries, and even check how hydrated I am.

As he looks over his notes, his brow furrows with concern, "At the party, I want you to drink and eat as much as you can."

I nod my head, "Okay. Anything else?"

He shakes his head, "No. You can go to the party."

I know why he doesn't go. Even though he should, he doesn't. But I get it. As soon as I get to the party my face lights up.

Everyone yells, "Happy birthday!"

I hug everyone, "Thanks, guys. Thanks, dad."

The party goes by pretty quickly, and I listen to what Banner told me to do. I eat as much as I can, but I know how stomachs work. I can't force myself to eat if my stomach hurts. I could get sick.

In the end, Banner comes back and hangs out. Kind of like the scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, actually, exactly like Age of Ultron. Which has me a bit on edge.

Tony notices that I'm a bit off, "Hey, Abs, you okay?"

"Um, Tony?" I ask, "Please tell me you didn't mess with Loki's scepter."

"I didn't." He replies.

"Then, yes. Everything's fine."

"How could everything be fine?"

I turn my head, "Ultron."

"In the flesh. Well, not-"

I interrupt, "Yeah, I get it. You killed JARVIS, you were in wires, and you have no body. You are about to control the other Legionnaires, and then you're going to attack. Taking Loki's scepter with you."

"She's smart isn't she?"

And just like that, the Legionnaires attack, and I make myself the Scepter's guard. And then I realize. I have to let him take it. This way he runs into the Maximoff twins, but we can stop the meteor from happening. Saving Pietro's ass and getting two more superheroes onto the Avenger's team. Officially announcing the Avenger's as a team.

So, I barely put up a fight. Just enough to make it to where I look like I'm trying, but not enough to keep them from succeeding. Will I regret it? Probably. Just then, a Legionnaire attacks, hitting me in the head and knocking me out.
