Shrimpo lit a sparkler with the most dramatic sigh in recorded history.

"This is dumb," he said, waving it half-heartedly through the air. "It's literally fire, but make it glitter."

"You're literally fire, but make it grumpy," Gigi shot back, shoving a graham cracker in his face.

Finn didn't say anything. Just smiled a little, half-curled up in a camp chair, hoodie pulled tight. His sparkler was already out, the wire stem glowing faint orange in the dark.

Goob was trying to spell his name in the air, but all anyone could read was "6b."

The fire popped. The trees creaked. Someone's marshmallow was definitely on fire, and no one seemed that concerned.

Shrimpo leaned back, the sky stretched wide and heavy above him, full of stars and stuff he didn't care about but kind of... got now. A little.

Finn nudged him with his foot. "Better than Mrs. Teagan's class, right?"

Shrimpo didn't answer right away. He just looked at the trees. At the lake. At all the things he'd decided not to hate, just for a little while.

"...Barely."

And then he smiled.

Like, actually smiled.

For a second. Maybe two.

And then he stole Gigi's s'more and chaos returned to the campsite like it had just been waiting for the cue.
