Chapter 1

16:15, 30 June 2015

It was a hot summer day. People were either at the beach or in the comfort of their own homes. 18 year old Camila Cabello was lying on her bed, reading her book, as she enjoyed her last few days of summer before College starts. As much as Camila wanted to get away, she was in no rush to grow up. She felt her phone buzzed beside her. Camila unlocked her phone and saw that it was a text message from her best friend, Lauren Jauregui. A smile crept onto her face as she quickly typed her reply. As soon as she pressed 'send', she heard someone said, "Boo."

Camila almost jumped when she turned around and saw someone's head popping from the window. She heard a familiar giggle and frowned.

"LAUREN?!" Camila exclaimed.

"Can't you use the door like a normal person?" Camila asked as she placed her hand over her chest. Her heart was beating really fast.

"Where's the fun in that?" Lauren chuckled as she tossed her backpack in before she crawled through the window. Camila rolled her eyes as she got out of bed. Lauren opened her arms out and smiled. Camila shook her head as she wrapped her arms around Lauren's neck and hugged her tightly. Lauren hugged her back and pulled away after a moment.

"My folks are out and Sofi's at her friend's house," Camila said as they sat on the floor.

"In that case, look what I got," Lauren said as she reached for something in her backpack. She pulled out two cans of beer and set them down, in front of them. Camila raised her eyebrows before giving Lauren a look.

"Beer? Seriously?"

"What? You've never tried so I figured why not try it now?" Lauren asked as she picked one can up and extended it to her.

"Lauren... I don't drink," Camila said.

"So you're not curious to what it taste like?" Lauren asked as she set the can back down. Camila shook her head and Lauren just shrugged. She opened up the can and took a sip and hummed. Camila scrunched up her nose as she cursed under her breath.

"Fine," she said as she gave in. Lauren smirked as she gave Camila her opened can. Camila took the can and looked at Lauren before she took one sip. She made a sour face as she shook her head. Lauren burst out into laughter as she threw her head back.

"Ew! That's so gross!" Camila exclaimed as she set the can down. She glared at Lauren as the dark haired girl's laughter faded.

"Why would people drink that?"

"I don't even know," Lauren said as she picked it up.

"Ew! Are you gonna keep drinking that?"

Lauren grinned as she took another sip. Camila made a face as she shivered. Lauren giggled as she set the can down.

"It is gross," she commented.

"Hah!"

Lauren smiled at the brown eyed brunette as she leaned against the wall. Camila frowned in confusion.

"What?"

"I've missed this," Lauren said, "I've missed us."

"Well, this is what happens if you run off to Softball camp for half of the summer," Camila said as she picked up Lauren's can of beer. The green eyed girl raised her eyebrows.

"I thought you said it was gross," she said.

"Still is," Camila said after she took a sip. Lauren chuckled as she shook her head lightly.

"You wanna go?"

"Go where?"

"Our hideout," Lauren said with a grin. Camila smiled as she stood up and extended her hand towards the green eyed girl. Lauren smiled as she grabbed it and stood up. She grabbed her backpack and her can of beer as Camila grabbed her jacket and converse and the two girls walked out of the empty house.

Lauren got onto her bicycle and Camila sat at the back and wrapped her arms around Lauren's waist as the two rode off to their hideout, at a secluded part of the beach. Once there, Lauren sat in a cave-like structure as she watched Camila run on the sand, feeling the wind against her face, feeling free. A small smile crept onto the older girl's face but it was a special kind of smile. It was one of those smiles reserved for a specific person. It was one of those smiles that most people dreamed of. And that smile was reserved for Camila. Lauren sat under the shade as she drank her disgusting can of beer. Lauren took a deep breath before she dug around in her backpack and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. She knocked the box lightly against the back of her hand a few times before pulling out a stick and lighting it up. She took a deep puff and blew it out slowly. She smiled when she saw Camila run towards her happily like a 5 year old and sat beside her.

The brown eyed brunette smiled at Lauren before she took the cigarette from her. Lauren frowned in confusion but then raised both eyebrows in surprise when she saw Camila take a puff. Lauren blinked.

"You missed a lot when you were gone, Jauregui," Camila said with a wink as she blew the smoke out.

"I can see that," Lauren said with a chuckle as she took back the cigarette.

"You're just full of surprises, aren't you, Cabello?"

"You have no idea," Camila said as she leaned in and blew the smoke into Lauren's face lightly. Lauren scrunched up her nose as she backed her head away.

When they were done, they spent some time there, catching up on what they've missed. Lauren told her about her time as an assistant coach at Softball camp while Camila told her about her summer with her family but Lauren felt like she was keeping something from her. So she kept looking at her until the smaller girl gave in.

"Okay fine!" Camila said.

"I... I met someone."

The moment the words escaped her mouth, Lauren felt her heart stopped as her face fell.

"Who?"

"Um... Junior from Homeroom?"

"As Carter Wesley Jr? That Junior?"

Camila nodded shyly. Lauren blinked.

"Camz, you barely talked to him in school," Lauren pointed out.

"Well, while you were gone, I went to this party and he was there," Camila said.

"But you hate parties."

"I was forced to go," Camila said, "Dinah," she added and Lauren already knew. The dark haired girl rolled her eyes.

"Of course. Dinah..."

"Are you mad?"

"No, I'm not," Lauren said as she looked away. She was heartbroken. The dark haired girl looked at Camila and gave her a look.

"If he hurts you in any way, I'm gonna kick his sorry little ass," Lauren warned and Camila giggled.

"You better," Camila said with a smile. Lauren's emerald eyes locked with Camila's chocolate orbs. Lauren took a deep breath as she pulled away from her gaze.

"Where to now, Camzi?"

Camila grinned.
