Chapter 17
17:20, 27 November 2024Estelle POV
Everything is a blur.
I gathered anyone who needed help, reversing their wounds and saving many from near death. Those who have passed, I could do nothing for them.
I could do nothing for Gambit.
I feel weak, but I don't stop.
Even when someone calls my name, it's faint.
"Estelle. Estelle!"
Looking over at Logan, a ringing fills my ears, his voice is muffled. My vision soon follows as tears fill my eyes. Another takes the mantle, healing the rest of the citizens. Seeing this I close my eyes, accepting the darkness.
No POV
Logan's heart almost stopped when he saw the news but was relieved to see Estelle alive. But her mind was elsewhere, aiding those in need. So when he stood before her, she broke down, feeling an ounce of relief at the sight of him.
Feeling at ease enough to finally rest.
The people she aided surround her, worried at her condition. At first, Logan's confused as he holds the unconscious woman. Until he sees their distress, the fleeting hope that's hung on one woman. Who quickly has become a beacon in their darkest hour.
The X-Men help set up camps on the land before leaving with the promise to aid them another day.
A week has passed since, and no new survivors have shown up.
A funeral is held for Gambit, those closest to him attend except for Rogue and Estelle. Vengeance fills Rogue's heart as she finds out who's responsible. While the brown-skinned woman remains unconscious and weak from the tragedy.
A few days pass before she awakens, staring out at the rainy sky, and a realization hits her.
This world is broken.
Alone, she quickly gets dressed, putting on her black coat she walks outside finding his grave after a tearful search. Looking at his name carved along the stone she stands alone.
Hours pass before Logan steps outside, wrapping his arm around her before she leans against him.
"We're going back to Genosha to continue the search for survivors."
She speaks quickly, "I'm coming."
He shakes his head, "No, you need to stay here. You just woke up, I don't want to see you in bed again, I don't want to lose you."
Holding his hand, she smiles, "I know, and I'm sorry for worrying you. But I can't stay here knowing I can help. Please. I won't push myself too hard, and I won't be far."
Looking into his eyes, Logan gives in, squeezing her hand a bit.
"Okay."
Estelle POV
The trip to Genosha is quiet but when we land I stay with Hank.
I walk with the blue man, and soon, I meet with Amelia. I shake her hand, "It's nice to meet you. I hope I can help." She gives me a soft smile, "I've heard much about you. Please come in."
Walking into the medical bay, the room is quiet, all eyes on me. Bed to bed, I help the injured, binding wounds and realigning the broken.
Bandages are abandoned as mutants walk out better than before. I see Logan in the corner of my eye talking with Amelia, most likely trying to warn her of my condition if I overuse my powers.
It wouldn't matter if I were to breathe my last breath, I won't stop until every person out of here walks out alive. Until they have the hope and heart to rebuild.
The bay is soon empty, some lingering off to rest, bodies still weak.
I sit down until I notice a bottle of water in my sight. Taking it I smile at the woman, "Thanks, Amelia."
She stands by me, "You have a gift."
I frown a bit, "So I've heard."
Silence sits between us before I continue, "That day was a lesson, one I won't forget."
As much as I wish to use every ounce of my consciousness to lift the broken buildings, I don't want to awaken something long dead. Any robot or death trap waiting to be reawakened.
People gather, finding someone in the rubble, Emma Frost, but she is the only one of the thousands unfound. The X-men get pulled away, dropping me off at the mansion with Jubilee and her friend. They quickly leave, having a small mission of their own.
Alone, I find myself pulled to my music room, trying to reach for peace.
I need peace.
Peace to quiet the madness in my mind.
Tears fall, escaping with every note pulled from the piano, as words ring in my head. Hours alone, lead me to wonder to my bedroom, surrounded by Logan's scent, I lay down.
Body weak, I drift off into a dreamless slumber, only to awaken the next morning in Logan's warmth.
"You're back...what's wrong?"
He tells me everything, every last detail of Sebastian and what could take a turn for the worst. I give him an eased smile.
"I know you and the others will stop him."
Getting ready, he leads me to Rogue, allowing me to check on her before he goes to his meeting with Cable. I can't do much to aid her, she'll awaken at her own time.
Staying by her side for the day, I look out the window. News spread of the Professor being alive, leading to more assumptions among the people.
It's no longer safe to go outside, protesters have arrived, against us.
Scott, Jean, and Cable leave for a mission, leaving worry and fear to creep into my bones. I hear some commotion downstairs, rushing over, I lock the door. Smelling thick layers of smoke, I look out the window to see the once protester's now odd fusions of technology.
The door bursts open, I stand in front of Rogue. I hold out my hand trying to reverse whatever happened to them only for a sharp pain to shoot through my body.
Sebastian's hold on them.
I can hear his voice.
I can feel him.
Blood drips from my nose, frowning I speak up, "Stay away..."
Then I see Logan, at the door and Kurt in front of us. They slice the puppets, but they regenerate, making this fight truly never-ending. Picking up Rogue, I look at them, "I'll take her away!"
Holding out my hand, the glass turns to sand before I jump out. Landing on a bush, I try to find an opening, but we're surrounded.
Logan makes a path before Kurt teleports him back. Slipping into the woods, I can feel them creeping in. Surrounded by thick green, I box Rogue and me in, growing thick trees around us. It's quiet for now, and as the fire spreads in the distance I catch my breath.
Then I see their eyes, glowing in the dark, closing in I keep Rogue behind me. Breaking the trees surrounding us, something changes, causing them all to fall.
I stand, walking over to their limp bodies. Lifeless, almost as if they were turned off by a switch.
Picking up Rogue, I carry her back to the mansion. Kurt meets us halfway, teleporting us back to what's left of the school.
Logan looks at the sky, "Magneto actually did it. He declared War."
Then a comet shoots from the sky, before crashing into the mansion. Morph and Logan rush towards it, revealing Professor Xavier.
