Log 5: Brooklynn

One week later...

Brooklynn: (to camera; rubs neck) Finally, the last day of Ben's heat. We, uh...never really thought about their heat, as opposed to other things related to survival. I don't know how we're going to resist our mating instincts, since Darius and Ben both used to be on suppressants back home. Just Ben's pheromones, I can smell from down here, and I know Kenji and Yaz can, too. Somehow, Darius is always one step ahead of us and snaps us out of it by standing on the first step of the ladder up to Ben's tent. No matter how many dominant pheromones are thrown at him, he stands his ground. That doesn't even begin to cover Ben's scent. Oh, yeah, did I ever say that I found out that Ben was my true mate? It's true, the first night he had his heat, I smelled it. I know he smelled me, before Yaz and Darius stepped in between us. Even now, his scent smells sweet like berries and also like eucalyptus.

Yaz: (sits next to her) How long have you known that Ben was your true mate?

(Brooklynn turns the camera to the two of them.)

Brooklynn: You know?

Yaz: I've seen that look before.

Brooklynn: Since the first night.

Yaz: Good for you, I don't know if I'd be able to stand it this long.

Brooklynn: Thanks...I guess.

Yaz: Have you told him yet?

Brooklynn: I haven't been allowed near him for a week. Of course I haven't told him. Which, I'm kind of grateful for, but I wouldn't have made it if I had been.

Kenji: (falls back into chair) Ugh! Dino-Nerd has had me on lookout since Ben's been out of commission.

Brooklynn: (rolls eyes) Yeah, (sarcastic; to camera) Soooooo hard sitting on a ledge and looking for danger and warning everyone if you see it.

Kenji: Hey! I'll have you know that it's very difficult!

Yaz: (to Brooklynn) Funny, I've never heard Ben complain about it. 

Brooklynn: Yeah, Kenji.

Kenji: You little...!

Darius: (camera turns to him as he speaks) Brooklynn!

Brooklynn: Yeah?

Darius: Sammy and I are going back out to scout for food, wanna come?

Brooklynn: Sure!

Darius: Yaz, Kenji, stay here. Ben's napping and should be feeling better later today. 

Kenji: Yes!!

Darius: Yaz is in charge.

Kenji: No!

Yaz: Hah! Looks like he learned from last time.

Kenji: Since when is he the leader anyway?!

Yaz: Since we all realized that his dinosaur knowledge made him the best choice.

Brooklynn: (to camera) Well, that's all, people, looks like duty calls! Bye!
