Chapter 1

"Congratulations, you guys got a position in New York." Mr. Patricio said while sitting on his desk across Jungkook and Jimin on their chairs. They both just widened their eyes and couldn't speak any words. Their boss just chuckles at their reaction and stands up.

"You will start next week, good to go Mr. Park and Mr. Jeon." He offers his hand to the handshake and they both stand up to accept it. "Mr. Patricio, thank you for the opportunity, we make sure your company in New York will bring out good in us so the company can be more great." Jimin said while shaking his hand.

Jimin and Jungkook finally got a promotion as an executive manager in procurement for Jimin and food research & development for Jungkook. Although they both didn't have a reason to move to New York since they both got a break up before coming back again to Chicago but they already proposed their promotion.

They both exit their boss' office and hug each other. "OH GOD! WE'RE MADE IT! YES!" they're both screaming at each other for being too happy. Him and Jungkook invite their co-workers in their department to celebrate their promotion. Jimin and Jungkook got a gift from their co-workers, Jimin got a sweater and Jungkook got a Supreme baseball shirt.

After work they start to pack their stuff little by little so they don't need to rush when they have to go next week. Meanwhile Jimin searches for a new place in New York and Jungkook catches him.

"Why do you have to find a new place? Do you want to not live with me anymore?" Jungkook asked. "No, no, it's not that I just want to experience living alone. Since we're going to have a raise, I think I can rent an apartment by myself." Jimin replied.

"Oh, okay. I'm going to miss being your roommate and staying up all night playing video games." Jungkook feels sad because through his breakup, Jimin always accompanies him if he can't sleep thinking about Lisa. They'll watch an action movie or romance tv show or play his Playstation 5.

When they're packing, they heard someone ring a bell. Jimin stood up first to get the door. When he opens it there's a girl standing in front of him. It's Olivia, his co-worker who is really obsessed with him. Olivia has had a crush on Jimin since two years ago but she is so sad when he needs to go to New York to handle some project for a year. According to an employee in New York who is her former co-worker in Chicago, Jimin had a girlfriend there. It devastated her. But, when he came back again she got news they had already broken up. At first, Jimin never noticed her since he came back to Chicago because he was still in the process of moving on from Chaeyoung.

Olivia still works hard to let Jimin accept her until there's a company's dinner and a bunch of their co-workers start matchmaking all of them as a joke including Jimin and Olivia. Jimin was drunk that day so when all his co-workers tell him to be on one date with Olivia, he said yes as a joke but not Olivia. Next day, she asked Jimin if they'll go out but Jimin was shocked because she took it seriously. Jimin couldn't help to see her pleading eyes so he just said yes as a friendly date for the first and last time.

But after that there's so much going on with both of them, Olivia always brings him lunch or asks him to go lunch together and Jimin just says yes as a friend because he always brings Jungkook with them. Sometimes, on Saturday she always asks him to hang out, which Jimin often says no. Jungkook noticed it and he told Jimin that Olivia really likes him, Jimin just shrugged and didn't take it as a serious thing. When Olivia heard from her friend that Jimin will leave for New York again, she was panicking and scared he would go back to his ex since she doesn't know Chaeyoung isn't there anymore.

She runs to his apartment to confess to let him at least acknowledge her feelings, she hopes Jimin wants to try even if it has to be long distance. At least Jimin will be hers.

"Uh, hi Olivia, what are you doing here?" Jimin tilted his head seeing Olivia sweat all over her forehead. "Hi. So you're leaving?" Olivia talks while panting. Jimin is shocked why Olivia suddenly came here just to say that. "Oh yes, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. Do you want to come in?" Jimin widens his door but Olivia shakes her head.

"Jimin, I just came here to say something." Olivia cleared her throat.

"I like you."

Jimin still has a confused face all over him. But Olivia continue,

"I know it's so sudden but I like you for so long. I hope we can go to the next level even if we have to go a long distance." Olivia finally said it. She is satisfied with her bravery.

Meanwhile, Jimin fazed out with her words that she likes him. Jimin clearly didn't see this coming because he strictly sees her as a co-worker. Jungkook was right, she's into him. He realized a friendly date they had the other time was because she has been crushing on him for a year now.

"Uhm, Olivia. I can't. I think even if we try, I am still not interested in long distance relationships. I don't see you as more than a co-worker. I'm sorry if that friendly date turns out to give you much hope." Jimin said.

Olivia still statues and stares blankly at him. Little bit she's hurting because she thought her braveness could make him see her more. Olivia is a little bit angry too because all she's done to him only makes him think she is his friend, even worse is just a coworker.

"Oh, okay. It's fine. I see it coming. I should go, good luck in New York, Jimin." Olivia waves her hand a little and leaves his apartment. Jimin stays in the door waiting for her to enter the elevator, he can see her embarrassment on her face but he thinks she's brave but he can't see anything more to her. When she's gone Jimin closes the door and turns around only to see Jungkook grin while holding the tape from packing up his stuff.

"What?" Jimin is annoyed by his face right now. "I told you, I was right, right?" Jungkook arches his eyebrows. Jimin just shrugged and passed on him to continue packing his clothes.

"But, that was brutal." Jungkook said. "What? She had to know that words would come through my mouth. When you confess, you can't expect one hundred percent sure they'll say yes." Jimin explained. Jungkook just chuckled and they continued to pack all their things.

After a week they're packing and sell all their furniture, the day of their departure come. Jimin looks through a plane window and sees New York city light. He's coming back but it feels different. First time he was moving to New York he was scared. He scared everything won't work out the way he want. Now, it's different. He feel happy finally his life is upgrading to another level but his heart feel heavy. New York bring many kind of emotions, many kind of things, but only one person who bring all of those that time. He sigh deeply, remember how it supposed to work.

Jimin and Chaeyoung should have been moving in together. He already planned it all. Once he moves into New York, he will get an apartment by himself because he will get a raise. He will propose to her and start saving for their wedding. It all planned out but there's the thing, humans still don't have a capability to control everything or every person's mind. To let Chaeyoung change her mind about him and not leaving New York, that's impossible. He only wishes one thing that day they're broken up, to not let Chaeyoung go to LA. At least even if she's not forgiving him, he would take everything he could to fight for her. She was his world. But now, there's only one thing he should do. Plan a new thing to his life as a one person.

Jungkook and Jimin separate their ways first because Jungkook has to clean his apartment, it has been abandoned for months and Jimin has to take his apartment key from his new landlord. When the landlord gives him a key, he looks through the empty space of his new apartment. He got a one bedroom apartment.

Seven months ago, he was looking through the same building on their website. He was looking at a two bedroom apartment. Jimin thought of an idea to rent a two bedroom for Chaeyoung. He wanted to make another bedroom to be her small studio. He wanted to buy furniture and décor it with her style. He was looking at Pinterest for reference and he got one already. Jimin talked to the landlord and he said there'll be a waiting list to get the apartment. It could be one month or more. Jimin was okay with it since he has to figure out a proposal for his promotion and at least Chaeyoung can live in their apartment first instead of still living with Lisa because Jungkook is about to propose to her too. Putting his name on a waiting list won't hurt, at least he has something to check as a done task.

When everything falls apart and three months later he leaves New York, the landlord calls. He said he got the apartment but Jimin cut the deal off because of their break up and he is already in Chicago. But when he had to go back to New York, he called the landlord again asking for a one bedroom or studio apartment and there's an available space for one bedroom immediately so he took it right away.

He sighed looking through his new apartment window, it's a good view of riverside park south and Hudson River. He chose this apartment first because there's a running track in here and he likes to work out. After roaming around his new apartment, he comes back to Jungkook's apartment to stay for a week until his apartment has complete furniture.

He opens the door and sees Jungkook has finished cleaning the entire space and he just cleans with a broom in the kitchen. When Jungkook heard the door open he knew it was Jimin. He peed from the kitchen and he was right.

"How's the place? Is it good?" Jungkook asked.

Jimin put his key on a bowl and his coat on a hanger. "Yes, the view is all i want and there's a running track in Riverside Park South." Jimin replied. Jungkook takes a glass of water and stands across Jimin who facepalms himself on a kitchen island sitting on a barstool. "Are you okay?" Jungkook ask.

"I asked the landlord about the two bedroom apartment there." Jungkook widened his eyes. "Oh." He knew about Jimin's plan. "Is it good?" Jimin nodded. Jungkook can feel their memories of New York bring a heavy heart on them. Jungkook took this opportunity too with a nervous feeling because Lisa is still living here. They can meet any moment or accidentally see her. New York is big but their radar from her apartment to his and their office are nearby.

Jungkook stands across from him and sighs. "What do you feel about New York? Considering we'll be living here for a long time, we might as well live here forever. Jimin turned his head to him.

"I don't know, she isn't here anymore. She's in LA living her dream and of course I'm here living my dream to be successful. It's in the past, little by little I'm moving on." Jimin looks at him who is still quiet, Jimin forgets one thing.

"How about Lisa? She's here. She lives ten minutes from here, same as our office with her office too." Jungkook just sighed.

"Still working on moving on, it's been hard since I got this." Jungkook suddenly brings out something from his pocket, it's a small Bulgari small brown box. Jimin widens his eyes.

He doesn't know Jungkook already bought a ring for Lisa before they're breaking up. Jimin browsed months ago but he can't pick any since Jimin is really a picky guy, it literally makes people crazy just to accompany him shopping.

"You already bought it?" Jimin asks in shock and Jungkook just nods.

"I can't wait so I bought it right away. I might have to sell it on ebay." Jungkook just rolls it around his hand to play it nonchalantly because he thinks this thing is useless now.

"Don't throw it away, keep it for the next proposal." Jimin suggested.

"It's Lisa's favorite brand." Jimin just formed an 'O' from his mouth and he just shrugged, it's now up to Jungkook what to decide. After a long silence, he went back to his bedroom and lay on his bed. He got curious about something so he picked up his phone and searched for something on Google. When he slides through it, there's news that catches his eyes.

Jimin clicked that thumbnail and he saw a bunch of photos when J-Hope, Jungkook's cousin held a concert. Somehow when he continued to tap next on the photos, he spotted someone on the stage behind J-Hope. It's a girl with blonde hair and a half bun hairstyle. She wears a leather jacket with a fringe all over her, she puts on a rock star style. It's Chaeyoung. She's so enjoying the stage with a smile while being a backup singer.

She's happy, that's what matters. While he's happy to get a promotion but there's always something missing in his heart, he misses being in a relationship.

"That's a wrap, guys! thank you!" J-hope claps his hands to all the staff who work with him on his tour now. Right now, they're in Las Vegas for Hope World 4.0 North America tour. Chaeyoung's two years contract includes joining their artists to be a backup singer for their north america tour and Chaeyoung has been chosen to be J-Hope's backup singer.

Chaeyoung walks to her dresser and joins with other backup singers, when she's opening the door suddenly people in there become silent. Chaeyoung and other singers don't have a good relationship because they're the same as her. They got a chance because of their universities' intern program from Atlantic record and got an extended contract to go to LA to work side by side with their producers, including a tour with their artists.

What's different is that Chaeyoung has been approached by Park Chanyeol. Her mentor back in New York. He's one of the producers from Atlantic who admire her so much. He's one of Jeon Jungkook's cousins, the same as J-Hope or Jung Hoseok. There's no backup singer who is approached by a producer like her, so they tend to get jealous of whatever Chanyeol did to her, so they decided to distance themselves or become two faces around her. Chaeyoung noticed it but she decided not to care because it's for the sake of her experience here. She came here not to play around but looking for an experience.

She takes her phone from her purse on her makeup table and exits the room to make a call. After two rings a person on the line picks it up. "Hello?"

"Hi, Talia. Where are you?" Chaeyoung asked. She only had one friend in Frances Howard Goldwyn Public Library, Talia. She's a part time librarian there because she took a music college for two years too in LA. Talia admires her voice when she accidentally hummed her song while looking through a book aisle and Talia was organizing a book behind her. Since then, Talia and Chaeyoung always talk and make music together. Talia takes a music class specialty in guitar so she's sometimes her personal guitarist when they have nothing to do. But outside of her, Chaeyoung has no one in LA.

"I just arrived at my apartment, I was re-ordering some books in a warehouse, it was exhausting. Are you okay?" Talia asks because sometimes Chaeyoung calls her only to accompany her because no one likes her in Atlantic Records. "You know, the usual." Talia sighed. She is really sad seeing Chaeyoung always be like this. Just because Chanyeol stands in her way doesn't mean Chaeyoung will go for it. Talia just has the same perspective as Chaeyoung about him. He's a playboy. She hates her backup singer 'so-called' friends who always sarcastically say she's lucky when in fact they're jealous and push her away.

"Rosie, do you think you can still get through this tour? I'm worried for you. can you just work in LA with their producers like usual instead of going on a J-Hope tour being shunned by fellow backup singers?" Chaeyoung chuckled at her words. She's glad she has Talia, it's like she has Lisa in here too. "Talia, it's okay. It's part of working. Sometimes we can't be friends with another employee. workplace is a place to work not goofing around." Chaeyoung replied.

After she's talking with Talia, she decides to hang up because they're about to go to another city for the next tour. Chaeyoung doesn't mind if she has to live a life she dreamed of like this, it's a part of pros and cons. Nothing can be one hundred percent a comfortable choice.

When she comes back to the dressing room, she sees her fellow backup singer gather around looking at a flier. One of them nudges the other to look up to see who's coming, they hide the flier and sit up straight. "Hey guys, what's up?" Chaeyoung asks but no one dares to answer it for a moment and finally one person speaks up. "Nothing, you'll already know from Mr. Park." Chaeyoung was taken aback by their words. This again. Probably the flier is about some competition or opportunity that they're working on because for Chaeyoung, they think she always has her admirer, Park Chanyeol who always offers her everything.

When they knew Chaeyoung got credited to be on one of Chanyeol's tracklists as an interlude, they were thinking Chaeyoung had sex with him, it made her furious but of course they weren't believing her excuse. They start to make a rumor about what Chanyeol and her doing in New York all this time and it was all a nasty rumor.

"So Rose, how's Mr. Park doing? Any good news from him about an opportunity?" One of them stood up and walked to her. Chaeyoung gathers her things to put in her tote bag. "Hmm, I don't think so, Claudia. I never ask him anything"

Claudia scoffed and smirked. "Such a liar, you might as well know about a Broadway show in New York invested by Atlantic Records who is collaborating again with Juilliard which is your alumni." She said,

"Just because they are my alumni, doesn't mean I know everything about them." Chaeyoung defends herself, she knows where this is going.

"Can you at least be an honest person, Rose? It gets irritating, you know? I know Mr. Park approached you about it, I bet it makes him reminisce about your internship days when he was your mentor." Chaeyoung was right, they'll bring it up all over again. She just stays quiet.

Suddenly when Chaeyoung was still bent to put her things in her bag, Claudia bent too to meet her height close to her ear while whispering something. "Might as well, reminiscing about your days when he bends you against the table in his studio to give you a good time." Chaeyoung widens her eyes. She bangs her bag and stands up straight.

"You're disgusting, Claudia. If you can act professionally, your mind won't go that far. You're the one who is nasty. Maybe that is your dream since you can tell it the details if someone wants to have sex in a studio. Take care of your own pussy, girl. It already gets wet with your fantasy." Chaeyoung picks up her bag to get out and leaves Claudia with mouth hanging open.

Chaeyoung is a sensitive person, she's about to get teary eyes a thousand times. She ran to a van to wait for everyone to go back to LA before hitting another stage to another city.

This concert will be a long one.
