Chapter 34

Misty's POV

There was a woman's voice that kept ringing in my ears. I felt myself gain back my consciousness as my vision became less blurry and I could hear what the woman was saying.

"Hello ma'am, can you tell me your name, age, and date of birth, please."

I opened my eyes slowly and saw a blonde woman who was probably in her thirties staring back at me. My head was pounding and I became confused again. She repeated her question and gave me a sympathetic look. I opened my dry mouth to speak.

"Misty"

I managed to croak out, my voice cracking as I continued. I swallowed my spit so my throat would hurt as much as my head.

"I'm nineteen. July 22, 1996."

I closed my eyes shortly after and listened to the woman write my info on a clipboard. I tried to rack my brain to remember what I was doing before. What got me into the ambulance. I tried harder but the only thing I could remember was Calum.

Calum.

"Where's Calum?"

I opened my eyes and the woman immediately fixed her eyes on me.

"By law we cannot let anyone besides your guardians onto the ambulance."

I furrowed my eyebrows In confusion. She knew I was confused.

"We told him to meet us at the hospital once we get there. Which should be shortly."

She took my arm and placed a needle into my vein injecting what I believe was IV. It didn't hurt because my aching head was out ruling all the other pains that were taking place in my body currently.

I closed my eyes hoping for this to be a dream. Hoping that I'll wake up at home with Calum, safe in my bed.

Calum's POV

I ran to my car slamming the door and throwing Misty's bags in the backseat. I started the car and drove out of the parking lot, my heart racing as my mind continued with it's 'what if' questions.

I drove 10 miles faster over the speed limit than usual trying my best to get to the hospital before she opened her eyes.

"This is all my fault."

I muttered as I turned into the exit leading into the hospital parking lot. I parked in the first lot I saw. Slamming my car door shut, I ran to the entrance of the hospital and was momentarily stopped by a hospital policeman.

"Sir, I will need you to empty your pockets of any metal objects. Then, I'll need you to step through the metal detecter in order to ensur-."

"Yeah I know. Safety."

I quickly interrupted him and threw my keys and my phone into a gray plastic bin. I walked quickly through the large metal detecter and grabbed my stuff as it rolled onto the conveyer belt.

I quickly walked up to the main desk.

"Hello what can I help you with."

The receptionist greeted me with a smile.

"There is a girl that just came here in the ambulance. Her name is Misty Roth. I need to see her."

The receptionist nodded and typed something onto her computer and then wrote something on a pink post it note. She looked up and gave me a small smile.

"Ms. Roth just arrived. Here's her room number. Just up those stairs and make a left."

She motioned behind me.

"Thank you."

I said in a hurry as I jogged up the flight of stairs then making a sharp left as the receptionist had told me. I took a glance down at the pink note which said 'A108' I scanned the doors for a plaque that said 'A108'.

"A100, A101.."

I quietly muttered as I walked past the wooden doors.

As I reached A108, I noticed there was a sign on the door that said, " Medical procedures in Action, Do not Disturb."

I hesitated as I placed my hand back into my pocket. I saw 3 chairs lined up on the wall beside me so I sat down, elbows rested on my knee, my hands clasped together, praying. Praying that Misty would be alright. Praying that nothing hurt her. I checked the time. it was late in the after noon.

I felt a small tap on my shoulder, waking me up. I must've fell asleep while waiting.

"Hello sir, are you here for Misty?"

A man in a doctor's coat asked me.

"Yes."

I stood up quickly eager to go inside of the room to see if she was okay.

"Is she doing well? What happened?"

My mouth started running with questions that were built up inside of my head.

"She's fine. Just a small panic attack."

I let out a huge sigh and dropped back into my chair. I rubbed my head and closed my eyes thanking my prayers for coming true.

"What is your name sir."

"Calum Hood."

I heard scribbling and papers flipping.

"What is your relation to Misty?"

"I'm her boyfriend."

Then there was more scribbling.

"Can I go inside to see her."

I said impatiently crossing my arms.

"Yes of course."

"Thank you."

I stood up quickly and turned the brass handle opening the heavy wooden door. A nurse was still inside cleaning up the room. I opened the door for the nurse signaling that I wanted to be alone with her.

I watched her chest rise up and down slowly. I pulled a chair next to her bed hoping that she would wake up to see that I was there. Her skin was pale and she looked weak.

"Hey babe, it's me."

I whispered as if the doctors outside could hear me. I took her hand and held it tightly.

"I'm so sorry."

I waited to see if there were signs that she would hear me. Maybe a hand movement? Or even a sound from her throat. I was hoping for anything.

"I'm sorry for being a horrible boyfriend."

Why was this happening right now? Of course it had to be 2 days before I leave for tour.

"I love you."

A couple hours passed and there was still no signs of life besides her steady breathing. I called the boys and told them what happened. They told me they were on the way here.

I kept watching her but nothing was happening. The door suddenly creaked open revealing the boys each holding either flowers, balloons, or a stuffed animal.

"Hey."

Ashton said placing his roses down on the desk near the door.

I gave a small smile and looked down at the ground giving up on hope. Why wasn't she moving? I heard a couple of chairs move but didn't bother to look up until I felt a pat on my back.

"It's okay Cal. She's going to be okay."

Ash said scooting in his chair. I nodded and leaned back on my chair. I ran my fingers through my hair fixing it's messiness.

"Nothing's happening."

I sighed and got up. My head was hurting and 'What if' questions were popping into my head. I paced the room trying to calm myself down.

"Did you see that?"

Michael said catching my attention.

"See what?"

Luke said looking back at Misty.

"Her head turned a little."

Mikey said getting excited. I looked over at her waiting if she would move again. She moved her head and gave a huge sigh.

"Oh my god."

I whispered walking back to my chair. I took her hand again.

"Misty, hey, we're all here. Please wake up. I'm begging you. Please."

By this time my voice was full of desperation.
