I'm sorry

Today is the day.

We could be known for having the greatest idea, or Cato might be carrying me back in a body bag.

I see Doja and Aspen still sleeping.

" Hadley.. let me know if we're doing this right." I say softly looking around.

I don't know if he can even respond to that, but it was worth a shot.

I have a deep pain in my gut, I'm nervous, I'm actually nervous. I take a breath peeking out the cave to make sure we were clear.

The bright pink and blue sky was pretty. I feel the light breeze blow through my hair. I take a breath, I need to be clam for this to work.

For me and Aspen's sake.

I take one more look. A ways down there was a group moving.

It wasn't River's group, I wasn't sure who it was, whether it was tributes or criminals.

I go back in the cave " Get up! A group is on the move." I almost yell.

Both jump up. We pack quickly.

" Are we going to kill them?" Doja asks.

" They're kinda far down. Maybe leave them for right now. We don't need any injuries before today is over."

Doja nods.

She should've ran. By the end of today she'll be...

Acceptable loss. There can only be 2.

And that will be me and Aspen.

We quickly pack everything and we head down the mountain, towards the Cornucopia.

I felt watched. I looked at Aspen who was looking back to.

" Eyes on look out we have some company lurking." Doja says lowly to us.

Thought right.

I nonchalantly grab my small sword.

I hear a bow string get pulled back.

"DUCK!" I yell.

We all ducked, Aspen turned around quickly throwing an axe in a guys chest.

Cannon.

There was a girl and the boy from 6.

The boy I helped at the training center, His eyes met mine with pure terror.

" I got the girl, Kay get the boy!" Doja says.

Something in me turns off.

The feeling or connection of that kid and I. I helped him, yea but.. it's the games.

I take a knife lodging it in his head. Instant kill.

I take a breath looking at the bodies on the ground. At least he didn't need to suffer.

" Let's see if they have anything useful." Doja says going through their bags and pockets.

They had some food, that was it. The guy had some arrows which I took.

I saw something gold hanging from the boy. I go up to him bending down, the locket he was wearing in training.

It had pictures of I think his family. I feel a lump in my throat, but I take the locket off zipping it in one of his pockets.

" Give this back to his family."

I bite my cheek as I walked away. Aspen was giving me a pitiful look but we didn't want to seem weak so he stayed quiet.

" Who are these 2?" I ask trying to get my mind off of the boy. Doja takes a good look at them,  " These two robbed Panem security, very smart they cracked codes."

" Let's keep going then."

" Why are we heading to the cornucopia?" Doja asks.

" I think it was made known about the horse mutts on the further side, barely anyone has been on our side, this must be close to where everyone is. That's where that kid was walking the direction from before the bears killed them I presume."

" Don't they know it's dead, the horse I mean?" Doja says scoffing.

" No, so they probably think it got away or something. Better for us, they stay in one place."

Finally we make it to the clearing, all the dry brush was all around.

Let's see if this works.

I keep my bow around my chest along with some of the contaminated knives.

Hopefully we won't need to do much.

I hear beeping again. " Do you guys hear that?" I ask.

" Another sponsor." Aspe says pointing behind me.

This one was really small. To small to hold anything.

" To Kaylaya." Aspen says giving it to me.

I open it up all it was is just a little note.

I'm impressed, you have quite a plan don't you Musak? Hopefully it all works out.

I smile. He heard me.

" What is that?" Doja asks. I handed her the note.

" Your boyfriend?" She asks.

Again with the Kaylato thing?!

" He's not my boyfriend. He's just my mentor." I grumble stuffing the note in my pocket.

Aspen snorts looking at me.

" Laugh again and I'll push you down by the mutts." I warn.

"FIRE! FIRE!" Someone yells.

I snap my head at the two. " Someone else started fires?!"

" Climb!" Doja yells.

We were about to but the mountain starts crumbling.

" We need to get out of here!"

We weren't far from where we slept the first night. If we can just go straight without any run-ins we should be able to get there.

" Aspen, the cave from the first night!"

He nods.

We sprint. I just know Aspen is by me, I have no idea if Doja is with us or not, I don't care.

More fire comes from the other side, going through the snow. This is from the game makers.

This is the grand finale?

They want a blood bath, they are driving us all to the.. Oh no. No,no, no, no.

The bear mutts.

" I think they want us in the hollow!" Doja yells, I look back and nod.

Come on Kay, think, think. They want us to be done, or maybe they are just bored, there hasn't been cannons for the last couple hours.  I guess it will work out possibly as long as me and Aspen leave.

" Here." I gave Aspen a couple more knives. He had his sword..good.

Me and Aspen need to survive.

We go in the hollow. " Keep a weapon up, something is gonna happen." I hear someone say. I look around to see some sliding from the rocks above, others from alleyways made in the mountain. Then I see them... River looks at me wide eyed.

I see a huge man appear out of one of the alleyways, he's probably 6'9 he's muscular and he looked crazed there were indent in his neck that looked like a Collar. With him was a girl with outgrown black and green hair, her natural hair was brown, she had crazed green eyes also. I look at Doja and she looked at me terrified, it's Achilles and Ryker, and of course they're teamed up.

There an announcement comes up.

" Welcome to the finals! An alliance has brought you all here. Who ever is left to stand in a certain time period can go free."

We all look at eachother. Pretty soon we hear some low growls, we all turn our attention to the cave, where 3 mutts came out, they were huge bears probably as big as the mutt horse in not bigger, they looked like a zombie, the fur was all ragged with bones showing, they were drooling everywhere.

I see the puss leaking our from them, embedded in their teeth and claws. I feel sick, these things are sick.

I feel someone grab my hand, tight. Aspen looked at me with wild eyes, then at the bear.

" Let's take down these mutts guys!" Someone yells.

I look at everyone. They all have the same expression but I'd rather get killed by people then mutts.

" Let's kill them then."

One growls and charges right toward me, I quickly take out a small knife throwing it at the bear, it gets lodged in the head falling limp. But soon it gets up again wobbling trying to get the knife out of it's head. One tribute try's to chop off a leg but the bear swings around and knocks him into a wall, I hear a cannon go off.

I glance over to the other bears which the other people were fighting, Achilles  was on top of a smaller one opening it's jaw, trying to open it so wide it rips, which I'm pretty sure he's accomplishing. Ryker was chopping at it with a huge sword probably half the size of me.

I hear a shriek, it was from the bear the 2 loons were with, my bear looked over, finally getting the knife out running over to it, I run to pick up my knife when someone knocks me over. Another prisoner.

" I have you all to myself." He sneered he was about to land an axe in me but I see someone tackle him, Aspen had him pinned stabbing him repeatedly until he's dead, another cannon.

I hear another shriek, one of the bears are dead. It was one some of the other tributes were fighting.

15 minutes remaining.

Aspen pulls me up, " Ok?" I nod. I look over to where I last saw the other group and they were by the other bears fighting. " Let's kill these things."

We run over their helping soon all of them were dead, 3 others died so now it's me, Aspen, River, Prim, Akillies, Ryker, Lilli, Doja, and 2 others.

The last bear everyone ganged up on, I take a sword stabbing it in the thigh. It roars his claws coming at me.

" Kaylaya!" Aspen yells.

He tackles me to the ground letting out a groan.

The bear got his back.

" ASPEN!" I yell.

NO NO NO!!

" I'm ok." He winces. I quickly turn him around, luckily we barely got it. The bag he was eating took most of the damage.

But he still needs to get treated and soon.

Someone kills the bear.

Time refraining... 30 minutes remaining.

They want us to die. They wanted us to finish this. We all look at eachother still heaving from killing the mutts.

" Who was the Alliance?" One of the criminals said, I can feel River's eyes on me along with the Prim and Lilli.

" You brought us here so they can finish us off sweetheart?" River spat.

I clench my jaw, Prim and lilli glared readying their weapons.

" Let's finish this shall we?" Achilles says swinging his sword at one of the other prisoners.

Cannon goes off.

Note to self: Avoid him...somehow.

Aspen looks at all of them, swinging his sword in preparation.

We need to finish this as fast as I can, he needs medical help.

I see brown hair come at me, tackling me to the ground. Lilli was on top of me " This is for Colin you bit-" I punch her in the jaw.

I roll getting some distance between the two of us.

" I thought you'd be dead already. Together or not at all, right?" I mock.

Prim tried getting at me but Doja interfered.

River and Aspen were against eachother as Ryker and Achilles were picking off anyone else.

Lilli takes her axe plunging it at me. I manage to roll again. I take out a knife I see a flash of green brown on it as I throw it at her.

It lands perfectly in her chest.

She gasps looking at me. I kick her in the stomach knocking her out.

" Well.. I guess you two died together."

Cannon.

Doja was on the floor, River was also on the ground... Dead.

Cannon.

We have a chance.

Prim was now fighting Achilles, Ryker laid bleeding out, no idea how it happened but I'm not complaining.

I run to Aspen, " You ok?" I ask franctially.

He nods. He hands me a larger knife, " Don't miss."

I take it from him. " Never do."

Achilles is the last male.

Aspen wins.

When I turn Achilles is strangling Prim, he was a couple felt off the ground her eyes bulging.

A couple more seconds.

Another cannon.

I don't let him even set her down before I chuck the large knife at him, hitting his skull.

He stumbles, falling on the floor though he tried getting back up. I take the knives I had left throwing it all in his head.

Another cannon.

We won.

I couldn't help by smile, we did it.

I turn looking as Aspen.

I run to him, jumping in his arms. " We did it."

He grips onto me, coughing. " You'll be ok, they're coming." I assure.

When he pulls away his eyes widen throwing me to the ground.

I roll looking up at him.

And River.

River had the knife in his chest before he looks at me a evil smile on his face before he passes out.

Both Aspen and him fall, " Aspen!" I scream.

He's bleeding, he's bleeding really bad.

" You'll be ok...you're ok."

Aspen shakes violently, his hand finding mine. " K-Kay." He mutters.

" No, your going to be ok, your ok Aspen...we won." Tears brim my eyes.

" Pro-protect my family." He says.

" Aspen.. your ok!" I repeat.

" Come get us already!" I yell.

" Kay.." He spits out blood.

He squeezes my hand harder, " I-I-I... Love you. I- always have."

The tears stream down my face. " Aspen.."

" Say it."

He's dying.

My best friend is dying right in front of me. And I can't stop it.

River.

" He'd not dead yet." I tell Aspen.

" I'm not going to make it Kay." He says, a tear going down his face. " Stay with me."

I look defeated looking between River and him. " I love you to Aspen I wish I didn't'-"

" I'm glad your here." He says.

This is it.

I knew he liked me, and I liked him. I leaned down connecting my lips with his. Our tears mix, " I love you Aspen." I sob.

He coughs, " Knew it.'

I laugh lightly before more tears steam down my face. " I'll be with you." He says.

and that's the last thing he says.

Cannon.

" Aspen...ASPEN!" I yell shaking him, but he's void nothing was left. Now he's just another body.

He's dead.

Aspen is dead.

I look at him, shaking him harder. " No! Aspen!" I scream " Wake up. You need to wake up!"

It felt like someone stabbed me in the heart. It felt like I was suffocating.

he was just fighting next to me. He just saved me. Now he's dead.

River killed him.

I look through my blurry eyes to River.

I Now announce the victors of the 75th Annual Hunger games.

Victor.

There's only going to be one victor.

He killed Aspen, no way he's going to live.

I reach for the knife, going by River.

I feel like I was hit.

Everything goes black.
