14- The other side of the door
23:23, 17 August 2016June is just around the corner and the sun is shining brightly through the windows of the apartment. Karlie sits behind her mac-book, typing yet another e-mail to her boss about the 'situation' as he likes to call it. Karlie and Taylor hadn't spoken a word since the incident in Portugal. Karlie had tried and tried to get the famous singer to talk to her but not a word would leave her mouth. The only time Karlie would hear Taylor speak was when she was in her room, strumming the guitar and singing along. The melodies and songs Karlie heard through the walls were often sad and bitter. They described the exact emotions Karlie has felt for such a long time now. The secret agent often lays on her bed, listening to the sad tunes coming out of the other room and wonders if the singer would feel the same. Would Taylor actually feel the same sadness, bitterness and anger as Karlie is feeling?
And so here Karlie Kloss is once again, listening to a sadly singing Taylor Swift in the room next to hers in the middle of Berlin. Karlie hadn't chosen to go to Germany. She hadn't even thought of the country, since it wasn't exactly anywhere near to their last shelter in Portugal. Yet her boss had sent them a week ago, saying it would be a good hiding spot and that the 'criminals' wouldn't expect them to travel all the way back up through Europe.
The singing next door stops and Karlie can hear Taylor get out of her room as the heavy wooden doors creak harshly when opened. Karlie knows better than to get out of her own room now as the two women cant even seem to be in the same room anymore.
The secret agent lets out a loud sigh and stretches out her tired limbs. She's just so done with this. All the avoiding and ignoring. She just wishes she would've never listened to her stupid boss telling her to 'stop' her romantic feelings for the beautiful blonde woman she was destined to protect. You cant just stop feelings, Karlie certainly knows that now. She found out the hard way.
The tall woman sits there for a while, behind her desk until she thinks Taylor must have gone back into her room. She finally gets up from the uncomfortable wooden chair she had been sitting on for a few hours now and opens the bedroom door. She surprised when two very blue eyes stare right into her green ones.
"Ehmm.. hi?" Karlie mumbles nervously, looking down at the ground.
"I.. ehmm.. hi." Taylor mumbles back, taking a step backwards and fumbling with something in her hands. Karlie looks down at it and sees it's a piece of paper.
"How are y- I mean are you okay?" Taylor asks, very much to Karlie's surprise. She looks up and looks into the singer's blue orbs once more. She has never seen Taylor's eyes this fragile and frightened before.
"I.. Im okay I guess." She replies, some anger faintly boiling up inside of her body. She pushes it away however, not wanting to start any new drama. "How are you?" She asks bravely.
"I.. I.. have something to give to you Karlie." Taylor says, seeming to ignore the question as she ruffles with the piece of paper in one hand and brushes a strain of hair behind her ear with the other. Karlie crosses her arms over her chest in a protective manor, watching the nervous blonde as she speaks. "I.. I havent been that nice- well I've been a bitch to you and.. and I wanted to apologise." Taylor's words are soft but sincere, Karlie could hear that. "I didn't know how you would react.. ehmm.. to me talking to you. So I wanted to slide this note underneath your door.. I figured that-"
"Thank you." Karlie says, interrupting the older girl's rambling.
"You can just read it later.. I didn't mean to interrupt anything you were doing.. I just.. I just.. well I should go.. ehm.. yeah. Bye." Taylor mumbles nervously, averting her gaze from Karlie's eyes back to her hands and then turning and walking into her own bedroom.
"Taylor," Karlie quickly says before the singer can disappear behind that damn closed door again. The blonde singer turns around quickly, her scared blue eyes scanning Karlie nervously. "Ill read it. Thank you." Karlie says, smiling a small smile at the girl in the doorframe who nods quickly, the smallest smile present on her lips as well.

Karlie can't wait to read the letter that Taylor had given her. She rushes back into her room and sits back down on the uncomfortable wooden chair behind the desk. She lays the letter down on the desk in front of her and takes a deep breath.
'Is it a smart decision to read this letter?' She thinks to herself. 'Isnt it better not to cut these wounds open again? wont I get hurt again?'
Honestly, Karlie doesn't know. She has never felt this much for a person and had her heart broken in this many pieces. Of course, she has had her fair share in it. But will she risk going through that hell again?
Yes she will.
Karlie snitches the piece of half-crumbled paper off the desk and starts reading the scribbly handwriting that she recognises as Taylor's;
'Dear Karlie,
I love you.
I love you with all of my heart and I think I have been for quite some time. Karlie Kloss, I am so in love with you.
It hurts me every single day that all these horrible things had to happen. And no, im not talking about being kidnapped by the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Im talking about all the fights we had and how much I've hurt you.
Ive honestly never felt as much as I feel for you. It scares the shit out of me.
I ran. I actually think we both ran. But I ran just a little bit harder. (Even though Karlie Kloss, you're a hell of a lot faster than I am in real life. I havent forgotten)
I know that you tried. You tried in Spain. You tried in Portugal. You've tried all the time, and I just pushed you away. I get it if im too late, I honestly do. Maybe you're tired of trying. God, maybe you're tired of me.
I have been a fool. Well to say it in another way. I have been a mean bitch.
I am sorry Karlie. I genuinely am.
I now realise I suck at writing romantic apologetic letters to love of my life's, but yeah here it is; my heart poured out on this piece of paper. You don't have to forgive me, I do not expect you to. I just wanted you to know all of this and that I am genuinely sorry.
Maybe some day, you could make me that fantastic coffee again? Just like you did when my world was still at it's best, back in France.
Love, Taylor.'

"Wow."
Karlie sits there, still on that uncomfortable wooden chair.
"Wow." She repeats once more. "WOW!"
She has to silence herself, knowing that a certain blue eyed blonde is most likely listening at the other side of the wall. Karlie gets up from the chair and lays down on her bed, the letter still in her hands. She realises then, that she is shaking.
"This cant be real?" She whispers softly to herself. Is she angry? Is she happy? Is she sad?
She doesn't really know yet. It all yet has to sink in. What she does know is that she has a lot to think about.
She closes her eyes eventually and slumbers off to sleep a while later.
————————————————————————————————————
'Was it real?' The secret agent thinks as her eyes shoot open. Its dark in her room, the faint light of the lanterns outside are lighting up the room dimly. She looks down at her hand, which is still clutching onto the letter she has received from Taylor earlier.
"Taylor.." Karlie mumbles, a lazy smile appearing on her face as she does so. "Taylor.." She repeats. "Taylor, Taylor, Taylor, Taylor, Taylor.."
She shoots up from her bed and rushes out of her room. The living room is even darker than her own and so she stumbles into almost all the furniture on her way to the kitchen. She shoots a look at the clock. 5AM. A bit of a strange time to be making coffee.
She smiles at herself. "Coffee." She whispers out loud while turning some lights on in the kitchen. She turns on some old kettle and starts making the beverage.
A whole hour later she sits there on a stool in the kitchen, proudly grinning at her very own iced caramel latte. She knows what is up next and god, is she nervous. The sound of her boss's voice rings in her head but she shakes it out of there. She is pretty sure by now, that this famous singer called Taylor Swift is the love of her life. She wont ever let her go anymore.
She skips over to Taylor's bedroom door and decides on going in without knocking since the singer is probably still fast asleep in her bed. She slowly and quietly makes her way into the blonde's room and turns on the small light beside her bed. There she lays, sound asleep. Her hair messy, her mouth half agape, her eyelids slowly fluttering.
"Tay.." Karlie whispers softly, tracing the girls jawline softly with her fingertips as she sits down on the bed beside her. The singer's eyelids flutter open slowly, her eyes widening when seeing Karlie sit there, on the edge of her bed.
"Karls.. what are you-" She starts, her voice groggy as she speaks. "I made you coffee." Karlie states simply, smiling down at the blonde woman while setting the fresh made coffee down on the bedside table. "You made me- You made me coffee?" Taylor's voice pitches higher and she sits up straight in bed, running a hand through her hair nervously as her wide eyes stare into Karlie's. "Wait.. you.. you made me coffee?" She repeats. "You made me co-"
"Yes silly, I made you coffee." Karlie chuckles, interrupting the girls nervous question game.
"But does that mean that-"
Karlie doesn't let the singer finish her sentence and presses her lips onto hers. At first the kiss is harsh and passionate but it soon evolves to a soft and gentle lip lock, full of meaning and feeling. Taylor grasps the younger girl's neck with both her hands and brings her closer to her, not quite believing what is happening yet. She brings her hands to Karlie's cheeks and leans back slightly, breaking the kiss. Both women stare into each other's eyes, both panting, breathing heavily.
"Karlie, I am so sorry." Taylor whispers, leaning her forehead onto Karlie's while closing her eyes once more, tears threatening to fall out.
"I am too." Karlie says, bringing a hand up to Taylor's cheek and wiping the tears away.
"I am the one who needs to apologise, you know that.." Taylor says sadly, her blue eyes now looking into green ones again as tears run down her cheeks freely.
"Look," Karlie starts, cupping the singer's cheeks with both hands and kissing her forehead. "Lets not start a new fight about who is more sorry. I know I never should've let you go in the first place. I know that ill never let you go again, okay?"
Taylor nods, not able to even talk due to her sobbing. She swings both arms around Karlie and pulls her closer into a tight hug. "God, I've missed you." She says, taking in the secret agent's scent.
"Ive missed you too." Karlie says softly, holding onto Taylor tightly.

The two girls wake up several hours later, sunlight beaming brightly into the room as they yawn and stretch contently. Karlie has never felt more alive than right now, laying in bed right next to Taylor.
"Morning." She hears the blonde singer mumble while she presses a lazy kiss to her temple. Karlie shivers, this all being new to them entirely.
"Morning." She smiles. "Slept well?"
"The best." Taylor's raspy voice sounds. Karlie looks at her side and smiles even wider as she sees the blonde superstar laying there, in her blue pyjama shirt, no make-up on, no straightened hair, pure. She looks gorgeous.
"I love you." She hears the woman next to her say and she snaps out of her gaze, staring into those two beautiful ocean blue orbs. "And im going to show you every single day from now on."
Karlie giggles as she takes the blonde's hand in hers and squeezes it softly. "I love you too." She says, making Taylor grin widely.
"You didn't even drink my coffee, you bitch." Karlie then comments dryly.
"Well miss Kloss, then you should make me a new one." Taylor replies, just as dry.
"Oh you'd like that huh?" Karlie says, her hands moving to the singer's side, threatening to tickle her.
"Don't you dare Karlie." Taylor says, her voice stern as she looks into the agent's eyes seriously.
Karlie's smile only broadens as Taylor's loud laughter starts to fill the quiet room. The singer finally manages to get out of Karlie's grip and makes a run for the door. Karlie is fast however and wraps her arms around her torso.
"Karlsss!!" Taylor laughs loudly as the tickling continues. "Pleeass- Sto- Stop!"
"Okay, okay." Karlie finally says, laughing herself. Taylor turns around in her hold and stares into her eyes briefly before placing her lips on Karlie's. Both girls sigh contently into the kiss as their lips gently move together for a few seconds before Karlie pulls back. "Lets make you that coffee huh, miss Swift?" She says, a big smile on her face as she does so.
"Yes please!" Taylor shouts, making a little jump before opening the bedroom door.
Its only about three seconds later when she lets out an ear piercing shriek.
————————————————————————————————————
"Whoa, jeez. No need to hurt my ears like that." A man in a black leather jacket says, a sly smile on his face. Karlie stands right beside Taylor, her hand still on her waist as she looks at the man in shock.
"Nice to see you again, Karlie." He says, his eyes darting down to where Karlie's hand is resting. The green eyed secret agent quickly moves away her hand and steps away from Taylor, knowing exactly why the man is here.
"Well hello, Josh."
