18. Vampire's greatest weakness

18:55, 9 February 2014

"Damon!" she shouted and ran to him. She stopped him moving infront of him. The evening was getting darker and rain clouds were appearing in to the sky. Damon's raven black hair was all over the place he looked worried.

"Do you love her?" she asked. Her natural curly hair was sitting lifeless on her shoulders.

"What?"

"Do. You. Love. Her?" she repeated with a whisper and watched his beautiful face frown. His ice blue eyes were wondering on the floor and he gritted his teeth.

"Do you?!" she shouted now getting mad.

"I love her," he admitted with shame. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologizing? The only one who should be sorry is me," she said. Damon looked at her with confusion.

"I can't keep ignoring your feelings towards her," she whispered the last word with agony.

"Keep her, love her if she loves you back. But do not waste your time on her if she doesn't," she smiled and kissed him on the cheek.

"I am letting you go Damon."

Ava lay on the couch drinking blood. She sucked the blood out of the boring blood bag and threw it in the garbage can. They had left the cabin because Elena didn't want Jeremy to be couched by Damon and Ava. She watched the ceiling and was tapping a pillow with her fingers.

"I have to say Ava, you and your friends are smart," she heard a way too familiar voice and jumped up from the couch.

"Kol," she gasped and pinned him against the wall, holding his throat. She had the upper hand now, she was going to enjoy it.

"I could snap your neck," she said and squeezed his throat more. He was struggling to breathe.

"Just a tiny movement..." she continued and chuckled darkly. Ava was enjoying the moment when she saw confusion in his brown eyes. She was saviouring it.

"Has anyone ever snapped your neck Kol? I imagine it must hurt," she laughed but let the man go. He held his throat and coughed a couple of times.

"How are you even that strong?" he asked and this time pinned her against the wall. She chuckled and bit her lip.

"Wouldn't you like to know," she snickered and Kol let her go. He walked away from her which made Ava follow him to the fireplace.

"I heard that you're looking for the cure," he started and glared at Ava. She nodded and crossed her hands. She stood before him and was almost as tall with her beige high heels.

"But you see; when you get the cure a powerful witch named Silas will rise with it," he said and confronted her with his piercing eyes.

"And he will bring hell on earth."

"We don't want that now do we?" she said with a cocky expression on her face. Kol chuckled.

"So stop looking for the cure."

"No."

"Why? You don't want it," he said.

"What if I did want it."

"But you don't."

He knew Ava too well. She loved being a vampire. She was now more powerful than ever, why would she trade it for being a human? She wouldn't.

"Where is your boyfriend by the way?" he suddenly asked and glared around. Ava shrugged and snorted.

"He isn't my boyfriend," she said and walked to Kol.

"Pity. Well I'm just going to have to have you all to myself," he smirked and moved Ava's hair behind her ear. Ava smiled. She smelled him, he smelled so good she just wanted to bury her face in to his jacket.

"What about the remorse you felt when we were together?" she asked and poked him on the chest.

"I never felt remorse," he said and smiled crookedly.

"Then why don't you finish what you started?" she asked their lips were almost touching. Kol grabbed Ava by the neck again, but more gentle than before.

"Make sure your friends understand that I will kill them if they take few steps closer to raising Silas," and after that he was gone. Ava chuckled and looked at the floor.

Few moments later Stefan and Damon walked through the door. Ava was laying on the couch, again. She glared at them and rose from the couch. She had a serious look on her face when she started to talk.

"Kol came by," she said and saw their face expressions change.

"What did he want?" Stefan asked. Ava bit her lip and lowered her eyes. She took a long breath before speaking again.

"He said that if you keep looking for the cure he will kill you," she said and studied their faces. Both of them started to look brooding. Ava put her hands in her jeans back pockets and swallowed.

"What?" Damon asked.

"I think I said it pretty clear. He will kill you," Ava said and turned on her heels.

"He never breaks his words."

The panic was rushing through her body when she was running to Elena's house. She heard from Damon and Stefan that Jeremy was killing an original. It was quite obvious who did they want to kill. She could hear Kol shout.

"I'm sorry but I'm already invited in!" he shouted in the distance. Ava was too slow. She would not be there in time. The forest and the trees were just shadows when she ran. The night was dark and cold. She was almost at their door. She could hear him shout. She stormed in to the house and saw Kol burning.

"No!" she screamed and got to him. He dropped to the ground his lifeless body still burning. Ava couldn't touch him when he was burning. The white oak stake didn't burn with Kol. His body stopped burning. Ava got down on her knees and stroked Kol's cheek with shaking hands.

"What did you do?!" she heard Klaus shout from the door with tears in his eyes. Ava's hands were shaking when she turned to Elena who was standing there back against the refrigerator. Jeremy was standing next to her.

"You did this to him!" Ava screamed with her hoarse voice. She got up and thruster her hand inside Elena's chest. She gasped and she was trying to catch her breath. Then a massive headache brought her down on the floor. She whined and saw Bonnie walking inside from the front door.

"We didn't have a choice..." Elena said with a voice full off panic.

"Lies. I will burn this house to the ground!" Klaus shouted. And moved to the living room where Jeremy escaped just before Klaus. Ava crept to the living room and got up. The pain stopped. She tried to get to Bonnie but she was stopped. A magic wall? Klaus tried the same thing but got stopped as well. Bonnie stood right before them with a small smirk.

"I will haunt all of you to your end do you hear me?!" Klaus shouted again. Elena startled and stepped back. She was waiting for Bonnie with Jeremy. Klaus hit the invisible wall. Ava tried to go through it but she couldn't do it.

"Do not underestimate me Bonnie. This wall won't hold me!" she shouted.

"Don't you underestimate me, Ava. You have no idea what I'm capable of," Bonnie said with a cold tone.

Ava threw herself towards the bookshelf and made a mess on to the floor. Klaus walked to her with teary eyes.

"Kol is dead," he whispered. He tried to keep himself from crying.

"I know," she whispered and started to cry uncontrollably. She tried to breathe the stuffy household air but she collapsed on her knees.

"They killed him!" she screamed her voice full of frustration.

"When they get back from their little trip to the cure I will slay them. First I will kill everyone they love while they are watching."

"Don't let the anger get to you," Klaus said. Ava laughed to him.

"You're one to talk!" she said and got up.

"You just want them to find the cure so you could have more hybrids," she said through her teeth.

"So don't try to back me out of this. No one is going to stop me. Not this time."

"Count me in then," he said with a half smile.

"What?" she asked. She was confused. Klaus chuckled darkly and sat down on an armchair. He took a relaxed position and looked straight in to Ava's emerald green eyes.

"If Elena doesn't take the cure I have no use for her," he said and crossed his legs.

"But you on the other hand will lose Damon. He would never forgive you," he said challenging her.

"And you will lose Caroline, what's the difference?" she asked and sat down on a chair opposite to Klaus. She tapped her fingers to the chair.

"I don't care."

"You're lying," she said victoriously. "You love her."

"She doesn't love me back. What's the point of waiting for her?" he said with a forced dimpled smile. His British accent came through in every sentence he said.

"Love."

"I should say the same thing to you Angeline," he smirked.

"If I love someone, they either don't love me back, betray me or they die," she said and felt sorry to herself.

"If I let myself fall love I get hurt, as simple as that. So no more feelings," Ava kept a long pause.

"No more humanity."
