Chapter 17:

Gaara is being annoying -.- I didn't notice how far I transported myself, and he won't let me transport back, I don't wanna leave him alone and whenever I try to touch him his sand blocks me. I can touch him if I want to but it's too much work.

"But whyyyyyyy?" I complained.

"You can't just transport yourself around." He said.

"But you do it all the time!" I exclaim.

"And?" He asked. I groaned and dragged my hand across my face.

"Fine I'll just transport myself." I said. Gaara's head snapped in my direction.

"What if I lose control hm?" He asked. I groaned again.

"Then can I kill you now?" I asked. He shook his head.

"But whyyyyyyy?" I complained again.

"Rai shut up." He ordered. I rolled my eyes and stopped talking. It was starting to get dark, and cold, and dark. Gaara finally decided to put his shirt back on.

The sun was setting, judging by it's position it's about... 6? I left Gramps house at like.. 2:30. Then I walked to the hideaway 2:40. After that we were singing and stuff 3:00. And I transported myself to the waterfall. After that Gaara came 3:30. We talked 3:40. We swam 4:00 and we've been walking for 2 hours.

What a drag. What was Gaara doing here so far away?

"Hey Gaara, what were you doing all the way here anyways?" I asked.

"I followed you." He bluntly said. Oh that makes me feel better.

"Ohhhh." I said nodding.

I shivered a little as a breeze blew by. IT'S SO DAMN COLD AT NIGHT LIKE .-.

"It's cold out tonight." Gaara said looking at the sky. I nodded.

"Konoha has weird weather. It's hot in the morning and cold at night. Though some nights are warm." I said. Gaara nodded.

Gaara pulled me towards him and picked me up bridal style.

"Ga-"

"Shut up."

He started running and jumped up on a tree, you could see the leaf from here.

"We're close." He said. I nodded. He continued jumping from tree or tree until we reached the gates. He then set me down gently.

"Rai!" Mr.Cutie Guard yelled. I smiled and waved.

"Hey Mr. Cutie Guard." I said. He grinned at me.

"Where's your sisters and Kosuke? Normally you're all together." He said. I shrugged.

"I might've transported myself away..." I said. He started laughing.

"Where's Mr. Grumpy Guard?" I asked.

"The Hokage summoned him." He answered. I nodded.

"Who's your friend?" He question looking at Gaara. Gaara crossed his arms and glared at him.

"Gaara, he's a childhood friend." I said smiling slightly.

"From the sand huh?" He asked.

"Yeppers!" I said rocking on the balls of my feet.

"Alright, nice talking to you." He said as he walked back in his booth like... thingy. I nodded and waved goodbye. I slipped my hands into Gaara's and pulled him along.

"I'm pretty sure everyone is at the hideaway.. Do you wanna come?" I asked. Gaara thought for a moment before nodding.

"Alrighty legooo!" I said. We walked hand in hand to the hideaway.

"RAI YOU'RE HOME!" Mao yelled. I closed the door after Gaara walked in. The hideaway was a mess. People were everywhere, shoes were everywhere, bowls of chips were everywhere.

"Yellow." I said while waving. The whole place became quiet.

"What's everyone doing here?" I asked.

"We were just having a get together." Sora said while handing Kosuke a bowl of chips. I nodded.

"RAI!" Everyone yelled. I gave them a closed eye smile and waved.

"There's some ramen in the fridge. And hey Gaara!" Kosuke said pointing to the kitchen. Gaara's glare softened and he nodded.

"GAARA!" Mao yelled, she hopped up from Shino's side and attacked Gaara into a hug. Gaara's eyes narrowed and he used his sand to detach her off of him.

Mao made this thing where every time she see's Gaara she's gonna try to hug him longer than before until he uses his sand to get her off of him.

"3 SECONDS! LAST TIME IT WAS TWO!" Mao yelled jumping around. Everyone was laughing. Everyone was here expect Neji, Lee, and Tenten.

"You're getting soft." I said smirking. Gaara turned towards me and glared at me.

"SAND COFFIN!" He yelled... Sand was in my mouth. Gross bruh.

"GAARAAAA GET ME OUT I HAVE SAND IN MY MOUTH AND IT'S GROSS!" I yelled. My face was uncovered.

"You know, if you're gonna try to kill me you need to use some other moves or something." I said. Gaara narrowing his eyes at me and released my entire body. I slipped my hand into his and pulled him towards my room.

"We'll be right back!" I yelled while waving at everyone. They waved back and started talking to each other.

(MAO'S POV)

I smirked slightly as Rai pulled Gaara way.. Three seconds! New record c:

"Looks like Gaara found her." Temari said while popping a chip in her mouth. I nodded as I returned to Shino's side.

"Are they together?" Sakura asked. She was pretty happy cause she got to sit next to Sasuke, instead of Ino.

"Nope, not yet." Sora said.

"He's scary though." Ino said. We all nodded.

"He has a soft spot for Rai though. I have this gut feeling that he smiles and laughs around her too." Kankuro said.

"He has a soft spot for Mao too, I was sure he was gonna kill her." Naruto said. He glared at the direction that Rai and Gaara went.

"I think it's safe to say, he has a soft spot for the leaf siblings and Kosuke." Shikamaru said while yawning.

"Everyone has a soft spot for Rai, you all gotta admit." Kiba said. Akamaru barked in agreement.

Everyone nodded. "I think that's why Gaara is so comfortable around her. She still shows him that she cares." Kankuro said.

"Rai cares about everyone." Naruto said. We all nodded. Rai was a person who could see the good in everyone, she cares about the well being of everyone.

"Even Sasuke likes Rai." Kiba said while smirking.

"Tch, she grows on you." He said while looking away.

"SEE I KNEW YOU LOVED RAI!" I yelled while pointing at him. He rolled his eyes.

"She's a baka but she's someone to hold close." He said.

"No matter what she'll always care, she'll always be there for you." Kosuke said while shrugging.

"That's just the way she is." Sora said while smiling, she was proud of the person Rai is growing up to be. I am too.

"MAN THIS IS SO EMOTIONAL!" I yelled. We all laughed.

"It's t-true.. Rai-Chan is someone you should hold close. I think it's kind of like we see a part of ourself in her." Hinata said.

"Exactly!" Temari said.

"It isn't like she just like that to be kind. She's doing it because she really cares." Shino said. "She really listens to you and always up for opinions of her fellow comrades." He added. I smiled at him.

"She's weird though." Choji said while reaching for a chip. We all burst out laughing.

(RAI'S POV)

I was currently going through my drawers trying to find a shirt causeeee I wanted to change.

"Why does she always do that when she knows I'm going to push her away?" Gaara asked.

"Who? Oh wait! Mao?" I said as I turned towards him, he was sitting on my bed. He nodded.

"Well she started this thing where she's going to keep trying to hug you and see how long she'll be able to hold on until you push her away. Last time it was 2 seconds. This time is was three!" I said holding up three fingers.

"She's an odd one." He said. I laughed and shook my head.

"The thing about Mao, is that she won't give up trying. Whenever she's around everyone is happy. She just has that vibe about her." I said. "Plus everyone has a soft spot for Mao. Even though she may be annoying sometimes, everyone likes her." I added.

"She was always like that when we were little too." Gaara said. I nodded.

"Yeah, she was like the sunshine in our darkest hours." I said smiling. I finally found my shirt and turned around. I had a sports bra underneath and I didn't really care if Gaara saw me in it.

I practice a lot in my sports bra anyway. Ain't like I got anything to show anyways.. -.-

I took off my shirt and pulled the other one over my head. It was just a plain black shirt.. Nothing fancy. I turned around seeing Gaara laying on my bed eyes closed.

"Don't fall asleep." I said smirking. Gaara's eyes opened and landed on mine.

"I won't" He said as he sat up. I walked over and sat next to him.

"Have you've been training?" I asked. The exams are in two weeks. Gaara nodded slightly.

"I have. Not a lot though." He said. I nodded.

"You're going up against Sasuke right?" I asked. He nodded.

"I'm going up against Mao." I mumbled.

"Really?" He asked. I nodded.

"They really want us to kill each other don't they." I laughed. It's just weird how they keep putting the leaf siblings against each other. We fell in a comfortable silence.

"Are you going home after the exams?" I asked. Gaara nodded. We weren't going to the sand until next year..

"Are you coming back home?" He asked. Home.. Suna.. I smiled.

"Not until next year or so." I said. Gaara frowned.

"It's going to be weird without you around the corner." He said. I nodded.

Let's just see how this is going to go.

The sun was starting to come up. Today is the day of the 3rd exams. I sighed as I pulled my knees to my chin. Currently I was on the roof of the apartment building. I've been coming here for awhile now.

"Rai." I hear someone say. I turned to see Gaara walking towards me. Today is the last day we'll see each other.. Until the next time we.. ever see each other.

"Gaara." I said, he sat next to me. I was scared to be honest. Scared of what's going to happen. Last week I told Gramps about the plans of the sand. Gaara and I agreed it'll be best if I did.

Gramps said he already knew something was up and that he already done something and that I shouldn't worry.

"Today is the day." He said. I nodded.

"Did we decided whether I was gonna kill you orr?" I asked trying to lighten up the mood. A small smile played on Gaara's lips.

"I think we actually decided you were going to let me kill you." He said. I threw my head back and laughed.

"Yeah right Panda-Kun." I said.

"I'll get you one day Kawaii-Chan." He said. I shook my head and smile.

"I'll be waiting." I replied.

Soooo we're now at the arena where the exams are taking place. The first battle was Naruto and Neji's... Naruto won.

Second one was suppose to be Gaara and Sasuke but Sasuke isn't here yet so it was postpone.

Third one was Kankuro and Shino.. Kankuro forfeited.

Fourth one was Temari and Shikamaru.. Shikamaru forfeited.

and now it's Mine and Mao's.

"Next battle.. Yamada Mao vs Yamada Rai." Coughy said. The crowd went wild probably excited to see two siblings versing each other. Mao and I walked down together and then faced each other.

"You ready Rai?" She asked. I smirked and nodded. This was gonna be one hell of a battle. Normally Mao and I would work together while battling Kosuke and Sora. We never really battled each other.

"Begin!" Cough yelled. The crowd started yelling louder.

I got in my fighting stance and Mao got into hers. This is such a drag.

Mao started doing hand signs. "Crystal Release: Needles." Crystal like needles started shooting at me super fast. I grabbed a kunai and blocked them all. Then I focused my chakra to my kunai and threw it at Mao.

Mao blocked it easily since she's extremely fast. I smirked, right where I want you. I then pulled on the chakra strings I connect to the handle of the kunai making it dart right back.

The crowd went wild. "I TAUGHT HER THAT!" I hear Kankuro yelled. The blade impaled itself in Mao's thigh. She cried out in pain.

"MAO!" I hear Shino yelled. Mao got up and smirked at me.

"Nice trick." She said, then she poofed. Dammit a clone. I sensed her behind, I'm not going to make it. She threw kunais, I twisted myself around just in time so it hit my arms. It was three.

"Damn Mao didn't know you hated me that much." I said. Mao laughed.

"You okay?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yeppers." I said as I took the kunais out. I started to sense something bad. I look up towards where the Hokage and Kazekage were.

"You sense that too?" Mao mumbled. I nodded. We both looked towards the sand siblings.. Gaara was missing.

"Let's do this quickly." Mao said. I nodded. I used one of the kunai and threw it at Mao. She blocked it again, making it smash into the wall behind her which resulting in creating a giant hole.

The crowd started yelling, getting excited.

"DAMN RAI DON'T TRY TO KILL HER!" Kosuke yelled. I waved him off.

"I'm not." I said while grinning at him. Mao started laughing.

"This is going to be done right now!" She said. She rushed at me and I got into a fighting position. Mao and I were the best in taijutsu... Okay maybe Mao is better....

"Dammit." I cursed under my breath as Mao came to punch me. I blocked it but the force was ...very forceful and pushed me backwards. I threw her fist back as I swiped at her feet with mine. She fell but hopped right back up throwing her fist at me.

Punches, kicks, kunais, everything went flying. So far I'm blocking most of them.

The crowd started screaming, we were going extreamly fast.. Probably faster than the other time we fought Sora and Kosuke.

"WHAT SPEED..AND THEIR TAIJUTSU.. IT'S AMAZING!" Lee yelled. I smirked slightly as I caught Mao's arm. I threw her above me and started kicking her towards the sky.

"LION BARRAGE" I yelled as I slammed my foot into Mao stomach.

"HEY THAT'S SASUKE'S MOVE!!" Naruto yelled. I landed on my feet as Mao slammed into the ground.

Okay that was too much force. I used my sand to coushin her fall.

"MAO!" I ran over and peered down at the large crater.

"Holy shit Rai." Mao said while coughing out blood. I grabbed her arm and dragged her out.

"You okay?" I asked. She nodded, I started to heal her.

"Mao!" Kosuke and Sora rushed to my side. Shino was already holding Mao's head.

"Mao Yamada is unable to battle. Ra-"

"I forfeit." I said. I probably won't even become chunin, they have to see if we're fit enough to become one.. I probably won't.

"But Rai." Sora started. I shook my head.

"I went to hard on her." I said shaking my head.

"The scary part is.. You weren't even trying." Mao said while smirking. I shook my head again.

"No. I shouldn't have." I said.

"You are way pass our level. It was already easy to see. Plus it's already too late to forfeit." She said as she sat up. Shino picked her up.

"Rai Yamada has won this match." Coughy said. I groaned and walked up the stairs behind everyone else.

"YEAH RAI!" Mao started yelling, Kosuke and Sora joined in. I smiled at them. Man I love them all.

"Next match. Gaara vs Sasuke!" Sora said. I nodded. Temari and Kankuro ran to us.

"THAT WAS AMAZING RAI! AND MAO! WOW YOU'RE REALLY QUICK!" Temari yelled. Mao grinned at her and nodded.

"My taijutsu is awesome isn't it?" She said. Temari nodded.

"Good job babygirl." Kankuro said wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I grinned up at him.

"Thanks Kitty-Chan." I said. I looked around to see Gaara walking towards me. He pulled me out of Kitty-Chan's grip and wrapped his arms around me.

"Do not like me kill anyone." He said.

"Is that a threat?" I asked.

"It's a promise." He replied.

"That doesn't even make sense." I said shaking my head.

"Shut up. Just please." He whispered. HOLY SHIT HE'S ACTUALLY BEGGING ME! Just kidding, I'm queen he's a peasant sooo duh.

"I know. I know. Don't worry." I said. He nodded and buried his head into my neck.

"Rai.. I-"

"NEXT MATCH! GAARA VS SASUKE!" Coughy yelled. Gaara sighed before pulling away. He narrowed his eyes at me as I rolled mine.

"Don't die child." I said. A small smile flashed across his lips before he washed it away. I watched as he walked away.

"Everyone ready?" Temari asked. We all nodded.

Sasuke was suppose to show up in five minutes.. If he didn't then Gaara is going to win the match automatically.

"Gaara has w-" Sasuke and Kakashi poofed up right in the middle of the battle grounds.

"Sorry we're late!" Kakashi said. He then poofed again next to Gai Sensei.

"WHERE WERE YOU SENSEI?" Sakura asked. Kakashi just shrugged.

"Training." He said. I focused my attention back on Sasuke and Gaara.

Sand started coming out of Gaara's gourd. He started holding his head... What?

"Please I beg you don't get so mad at me, Mother" Gaara said... What the hell...

"The conversations has started." Kitty-Chan said.

"This is dangerous." Temari said while shaking her head.

Gaara started breathing heavy. Sasuke threw two ninja stars at Gaara. He turned his sand shield into a sand clone which caught it easily. Sasuke's arm got caught in the clones neck.

He bashed the clone away and went to punch Gaara, when he disapeared and ended behind him.

"Holy crap! He's fast!" Temari exclaim.

"Sasuke is really fast, probably as fast as Rock Lee... in his normal speed." Mao said while nodding.

Sasuke punched Gaara in the face breaking his sand armor.

"Damnnn." I mumbled.

"Come on!" Sasuke said while smirking. "If you won't do it.. Then I will!" He yelled, he ran towards Gaara and blocked his sand. He then kicked Gaara.

"What's the matter Gaara..Is that all you got?" Sasuke taunt. He started running circles around Gaara and then grabbed him by his gourd strap and kneed him in the stomach.

"Ohhh. That gotta hurt." I said. Gaara started making a sand shield around him. Sasuke went to punch him but Gaara created sand like needles which pop out at Sasuke almost impaling him.

He retracted the needles.

"KAKASHI SENSEI!" Naruto yelled. Shikamaru and him ran up to us.

"YOU NEED TO STOP THE MATCH!" He shouted.

"Naruto.. What do you mean?" Kakashi asked.

"THE GUY SASUKE IS FIGHTING.. HE'S FAR FROM NORMAL!" He yelled.

"Naruto!" Ino shouted.

"He thinks his purpose in life is to kill people! Don't you see! Sasuke is going to die!" Naruto yelled. Dammit. Gaara is losing control too fast.

"Temari!" I yelled. She nodded.

"It doesn't look to good. He isn't even following." She said.. Following? He isn't following the plan...This isn't good.

"Relax.. No need to panic. You know Sasuke and I weren't goofing around. There was a reason why we were so late getting here." Kakashi said.

Sasuke kept on trying to break the shield. He had his sharingan activated.

Sasuke started doing hand signs.....Chidori?

"Chidori!?" I asked. Kakashi nodded his head. Holy crackers!

"Sasuke mastered that?" Sora asked.

"He didn't master it yet.. But he can do it." Kakashi said.

"That's what you were doing the whole time. You were building the speed needed!" Gai Sensei said.

"Exactly." Kakashi said nodding.

He broke through! Sasuke broke through Gaara's shield!

"That's impossible! No one can get through his defenses!" Kankuro mumbled.

Gaara started screaming. "BLOOD IT'S MY BLOOD!" He cried..

"What!?" Temari yelled.

"What's?... What's happening!?" Kankuro said.

"Gaara!" I yelled. Holy shit. This isn't good.

"RAI!" One of the AUBU yelled.. Captain Yamato?

"Captain Yamato?!" I said. He nodded .

"The Hokage said you need to do something." He said. I cursed under my breath.

"Out of all people he chooses me." I mumbled. I racked my brain.. Come on think....

"Guard the Hokage. The Kazekage is up to no good." I said. Captain Yamato nodded and ran towards the Hokage.

"Three "AUBUs" behind us aren't actually AUBUs.. Don't look now." I mumbled just for Kakashi, Gai, and the rookies around us to hear. The Sand Siblings were to far too hear.

"On it." Kakashi said.

Sasuke tried to pull his hand out.. An arm followed him out.. SHUKAKU'S ARM!

"That arm!" Kankuro yelled. I cursed under my breath again.. Think..

"He has no control." Shukaku said. I nodded. We need to stop him.

"SASUKE GET OUT OF THERE NOW!" I yelled. I started doing hand signs and transported myself next to him.

"Rai!" He said, he ran over to me.

"You need to run now." I said. He shook his head.

"This is my fight." He said. I nodded.

"I know." I said. If he wants to stay. I'm not going to stop him.. I need all the help I can get.

"What's happening?!" He yelled. I shook my head and started mumbling.

"Gaara...No control... Taking over...Wanting to...Kill..." I mumbled. Come on Rai! You gotta think..

"No matter what.. Make sure he's awake." I said. Sasuke looked at me funny.

"You think he's going to fall asleep?" He asked. I nodded.

"As weird as it sounds.. He can't fall asleep." I said.

The shield started breaking.. Revealing a hurt Gaara. Blood was coming out of his upper chest area to the left..

"Gaara." I started. His eyes snapped towards me. Temari and Kankuro came down.

It has begun.. "GUARD THE HOKAGE!" I yelled. The crowd started yelling.

"Stop it Gaara!" Temari said.

"I must kill.. him." Gaara said.

"There's no point in continuing this fight!" Kankuro said.

"That's right don't forget our mission!" Temari added.

"Gaara calm down!" I said. He eyes snapped towards me once again.

"Rai." He said. I nodded.

"Gaara please, don't you remember what you asked?" I said. He glared at me.

"Get out of my way!" He pushed Kankuro away. Baka Sensei jumped in between us.

"What are you three doing!? Can't you see the operation in already on it's way?!" He said. Coughy jumped in front of us.

"What is going on? Tell me!" Sasuke said. Baka Sensei glared at me.

"If it wasn't for you, this would've gone perfectly!" He said. I glared back.

"You can't keep using Gaara like this!" I shot back.

"He wound is worst than I thought.. His chakra is almost drained!" Temari said.

Kankuro took Gaara away and Temari followed.

"Damn it." I mumbled.

"Sasuke.. I'm sorry.. But the exams end here for you. You're already at Chunin level.. So put your training to good use." Coughy said. I smirked slightly.

"Good job duck butt." I said.

"You too Rai.. You're actually above Chunin level." Coughy said. I nodded.

"So in other words.. You want us to go after Gaara?" Sasuke said. Coughy nodded.

"Be careful though." He said. Sasuke nodded and grabbed my hand.

"Lets go." He said as he pulled me along. I nodded and ran with him.

"NOT SO FAST!" Baka Sensei yelled. He threw two kunais at us but crystals blocked it.

"Only I'm aloud to throw kunais at Sasuke.. and Rai." Mao said. Sora and Kosuke were next to her.

"Hurry." Kosuke said. I nodded, Sasuke and I started running again.

Come on Gaara.. Calm down...
